ST,
I have mentioned quite a few times before about Yesudas mentioning that god has been partial to Rafi and you seem to have gone on those lines as well. Whatever I have written in my previous postings is based on my knowledge and experience just like others in this forum. If I seemed to have written some items that sounded like items which you have written then it was not on purpose but just a coincidence or along the same lines. As it is, we are sending the same message so as you said its ok if we write similar items as long as it is intended for the same purpose. The reason why I mentioned in the ending of my last post about what you had said earlier regarding Rafi is because I had read your previous postings earlier and wanted to say the same thing as well.
Coming to TMS, I mentioned that he did not experiment enough at high piches as opposed to Rafi. I never said he didn't have control at high pitches. Its one thing to control your pitch and its another thing when you can perform variations at that level, a feature which I feel Rafi and Rafi only could do continuously. Rafi is undoubtedly the best ever.
Regards

Dear Ali;
"Sure I agree that SPB can reach high pitches as he has shown in some of his songs ",
could you please name me some, as I do not think you are aware of SPB high pitch capability.
"SPB made a comment one time that when he listens to Rafi he doesn’t even feel like half a singer. Such was the ability of that man to reach different levels which is proof of the fact that the majority of male singers consider Rafi to be their idol.
"
Yes, we all know what SPB has said, no point is repeating it 100 times, I disagree with you about Rafi being the idol of many male singers, OK, SPB/KJY says their idol is Rafi, but look how many singers for whom SPB is their idol
1) Hariharan
2) Shanker Mahadevan
3) Mano
4) Udit narayan
5) Lata mangeshkar....
I disagree with on TMS as welll, TMs had a very high pitched voice compared to Rafi, But I do agree with you about SPB having a low pitch voice, infact I love SPB for his lower notes due to the excellent bass, than his higher octaves.
thanks

Rahul,
Ur posting was directed to Ali, but cant resist from replying.
The only guy in ur list who has modelled his voice on SPB is Mano. And of all people how could you put LM in that list....."Suryanekey torch aaaa???"
SPB is surely among the greats of IFM but this was far too much......
I feel being a idol for most may not be a yardstick for judjing singers but it conveys something. Now ur disagreeing with ali cant change facts. In fact rafi is considered best(male singer) not just by most artists, but most importantly by artists from various parts of the country.At the minimum what this conveys is that his VOICE cuts accross the boundaries. Believe me this is extremely rare for male singers,even though u might be tempted to think otherwise.
rgds,

Rahul,
Your comments are just too much. Hey comeone man use common sense. Why Lata Lata idolise SPB. Its like tellig IR has idolized HJ or ARR. She is so senior to him.
Also Hariharan , Udit and Shankar Mahadevan hardly tries to be like SPB. They might be his fans but surely donot seem like idolising.
Well Mano ..i too agree u may be right.

ST & Jana
Mano is an imitator of SPB, but I have heard hari mentioned many times that SPB is a gift India, and he said many times that SPB is his IDOL, he never mentioned rafi or kk or the likes.
I am not sure about Udit, but who cares :-))
I recall Shanker saying that SPB is his idol,..
One thing for SPB's unpopularity compared to Rafi is that, rafi used to sing in the commercial language & the national language of India, which has much more wider audience than regional languages in which SPB was singing, had SPB be born up north, he would have been much more popular than rafi. :-)

There is 100% fact in it...for not between Rafi And SPB factor..but with the NI & SI factor....

No one is questioning SPBs greatness but dammit man ..statments u make are far fetched.
Whatever SPB is doing or will do and cant do has already been done by Rafi long back.
No male singer will ever surpass him. SPB is certainly a legend now,but long before people started dicussing about SPB in south, Rafi had cast such a spell on north that words would not suffice to discribe. I have seen people (including my milkman) cry when rafi passed away.. and it was not on tv. How many times have u seen Lata/PS/SJ/Rafi appearing on a program/media. These people hardly ever showed their face to media but they have held an unbelievable command on people's heart and mind thro' sheer talent. So please keep...

St & others;
Have you heard THE SPB song in Vetri, music by harrish Jeyaraj, superb singing by SPB, it reminds me of an early 80's SPB song?
the song is available at www.raaga.com/tamil

Ali;
Like we asked you before, please mention some of SPB songs and Rafi songs, then compare them, of late you have always been talking about arfi's songs, how can you say rafi is the greatest, when you have not even mentioned one song of SPB?
please reply.

Ram Lakshman,
I only mentioned some of Rafi's songs in my previous posts to underline his singing abilities as opposed to others because these very songs show different variations. Comparing the songs of SPB and Rafi will lead to unnecessary subjective out of hand comments (as witnessed on this forum in the past) regarding topics such as emotions, pitch level, bass, etc etc. which frankly is a waste of time. If you want to find out who is better, you should research yourself on a general level the best of both the artists and then come to a conclusion. Those artists who know music or those who have had the opportunity to be associated with Rafi or associated with his career know that he is the ultimate and there is no singer that comes close to him. Many artists point this out including SPB. There are so many examples in which songs of Rafi, SPB, Yesudas have been given to people who do not speak Hindi or the 4 southern languages and results have shown that they have liked Rafi's songs more than the rest which goes to show the talent that Rafi posessed. If you want to debate it more, please feel free to do so.

oh not again man, how many times are you going to say the same thing again and again and again??
Northies will say Rafi is the best without any knowledge of the great SPB, but the southies will SAY, SPB IS THE BEST with a broad knowledge of the great rafi, that is the different dude :)

Raghu,
Why are you assuming that Northies have a limited knowledge of SI Film Music. Just because a good amount people in the North do not listen to Southern regional film music that much as opposed to Hindi Film music does not mean they do not have alot of knowledge of southern regional music. Yes Southies also listen to HFM because it is a widespread medium but it does not mean they have a broad knowledge of Rafi or other non-south artists. If they did have a broad knowledge of Rafi they would not be saying SPB is the best.
Secondly you making that statement is kind of funny because you yourself don't have a broad knowledge of Rafi and still you're saying Southies in general do......joke of the day !!. I keep on mentioning that many many Southern artists have said Rafi is the best to try and get a point across. If you don't want to take it into consideration then that's fine.

Ali baiya,
>>Why are you assuming that Northies have a limited knowledge of SI Film Music? Just because a good amount people in the North do not listen to Southern regional film music that much as opposed to Hindi Film music does not mean they do not have a lot of knowledge of southern regional music. <<
Let me correct you,
"I am NOT assuming that Northies have a limited knowledge of SI Film Music, but that is FACT, if you do survey on normal ppl living in Delhi about SPB, 99% would not have a clue about this genius!
But unfortunately, the southies, would love to see any crap from bollywood, just like they accept talent less actresses from bollywood, because of their navel, (but I have to agree these bollywood actresses are really pretty and hot, though, haha), just like that, southies have this low self confidence of them self, and treat any crap from bollywood as gold, hence we have clowns like the sanu's, narayans, nigam's etc, singing in Tamil.
But, Bollywood works the other way around, they never accept any talents from south, nor give due credits to southern artists like SPB,KJY, IR, MSV, Rajni kanth / Kamal hasan / Dr.Sivaji, etc.
No offence meant to you or any outher northies :)

Hi guys....Just wanna say that SPB is the best....I think I can make this judgement based on SPB's "Raagangal Pathinaru" from the movie "Thillu Mullu". Such versatility. And besides,the song is set in F minor and SPB touches the G note on the third octave. Isnt that high pitched!!?
