I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)

  Kannada song 'Love Endare Yaaroo Bidisada Bandhana' song from the movie 'Phalithamsha' not 'Paithamsha'. Phalithamsha means 'Results', directed by Puttanna Kanagal.

  "Sowrayudhatil" was composed by Salil Choudury and released in 1978. That is all the details I have at the moment.

  Here are a couple of lines that are stuck in my head. So sweetly sung by VJ.
  
  allikku aanandha iravu
  adhai aNaikkinRadhE andha nilavu..
  andha nilavu...
  
  Her involvement in the words and the understanding that she is the alli here are so evident in the way she stresses the work "allikku".
  The MD's creativity to pause and repeat "andha nilavu" effectively expresses the joy and shyness of the situation.

  Neel D - That is indeed a wonderful song, very beautifully composed full of Salilesque surprises all over (many of his compositions bear this characteristic and this one would be one of his best creations). The sitar and tabla pieces are fantastic. Vani's singing is ethereal, and the way the word "dhum" has been conceived and executed at the end of each stanza is very surprising and unique. Definitely, I would now rank this as one of my favourite songs.
  
  The first stanza has quite a long, convoluted sargam, which ends in a pair of notes that differ by an octave. That point is worth rewinding 100 times!

  Could somebody recall a VJ solo song from Tamil film Lalitha . All I remember is , that song is
  similar to "vaazhthaal unnodu vaazhthiruppen" , anorther VJ number from Savithri.

  Vasanthangal varum munne veyil vandhadhu
  mazhaikala megagangal kalai....
  The movie was a remake of Kora khagaz-the song equivalent to mera jeevan kora kagahz

  Balaji/ Mythila, the Lalitha VJ solo is 'kalyanme oru pennoduthaan'. 'vasanthangal varum munne' is by PS, and there is another version by MSV.

  Thanks so much for uploading "Dhum dhum" song. I like this song quite a lot for its simplicity (and complexity at the same time) and for the voice. Vani sounds so very nice in this song. This song, I feel, is tailor-made for her. Good one!
  
  Also, another thought came to my mind: this song would have been just as exquisite had it been a thillana (taraana). Just the thaanam is enough to feel the beauty in the tune.

  I was listening to a collection of Rahman duet songs and came across "Sugam Sugam" from Vandicholai Chinnarasu. Vani and SPB lending their vocals to this absolutely beautifull duet was indeed heartening. I guess this is the only song Vani had sung for ARR and what a number this is. A song to cherish.
  
  Sensuous singing through out and without no trouble she goes through the high and low pitch with elan. One thing that had made me adore her is her versatility, be it the Nitham Nitham Nellu choru from mullum malarum, or Ore Naal or the "Kavithai Kelungal" song from Punnagai mannan, its her range that had surprised me. Hats off her. Its little sad that now a days we dont hear her more in mainstream cinema songs.

  When asked why she didn't sing more for ARR after that she said she doesn't know why and ARR told her that 'Aunty (thats how he used to call her from his 'Dileep' days), I don't get a chance to compose any songs worthy for you to sing'.
  Other than ARR, she sang a song for YSR in Nanda which didn't make it to the final cut.
  
  Other than that, she is more than occupied with ther devotional bhajans, tours in & out of Chennai these days.

  Who is the male singer with Vani Jayaram in the duet "Kurivikaara Machaane" from navarathinam? The singer sounded like Balamurali Krishna. In that case, after "Thanga Ratham Vandhathu", this was the second and last duet he had sung for movies.

  It is BMK indeed who sings in 'kuruvikkaara machchaanE'. He also sang a long carnatic song in the same movie. (MGR teaches carnatic music to some college girls who are attracted to western music. BMK chooses a song from Sound of Music movie and explains the raga etc.) BMK sang a song 'puththam pudhu mEni, isai thEni, thoongum malar allavO' with PS in the movie, subhadhinam. I recently posted an mp3 of this song in the PS Yahoo Forum. Although KVM did the music for subhadhinam, this particular song was a composition of TG Lingappa. (The movie titles never gave him credit, though.)
