I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!
VaniJairam.com - A site that has lots of info and songs of VJ.

I didn't get a chance to attend and witness the inaugural function. It was known to me a few days ago. I have asked a friend of mine to send a copy of the recording done in Holy Cross College, Trichy. In case I get, sure I shall share with everyone.

Neel,
Sorry for I haven't fulfilled the promise which I made until this time! After I returned from Japan, was kept tight by regular schedule of work. So.... I left converting devotional albums of VJ to compressed version 1/2 way. I shall complete and send the CD to you (hopefully) atleast before the end of 2004.

Here comes my day with VJ.
During my short visit to India early this month I had the golden opportunity of visiting VJ at her residence for about 2 hours. That was on 5th Sep. I talked to VJ from my house over phone to get her consent and convenience. Without any thought for a moment she asked me to come (Can we expect/anticipate this considerative and loving response from people who are with such high esteem!!!!). Also she said to me to call her after my landing in Chennai on 5th Sep. I did so at around 9.00 AM. She left two options to my choice, either at 11.30 AM or 6.00 PM (She had to engage some of her relatives in between, which was already planned, she added). I preferred 11.30 AM, kept myself ready with a small note book and pen to write her address and was about to ask her. Without leaving even a trace of chance, she asked me at once, "Do you know the place? If not, take a paper and pen". She explained the means to reach her house. I could recall my school days and the world map appeared
before my eyes for a moment just like a flash of lightning. Such was the way she explained!!!!!!
Sharp at 11.30 AM, I was before the doors of VJ's flat with the Guard without believing whether that was real or a dream/imagination/
hulllucination.
She appeared at once with a broad smile on her face along with Mr.Jairam.
The real warmth love I felt when the first question came from her sweet voice,"Do you find hard to locate my place?" Who else can do with such care except VJ?
She gave me a cup of soft drink and some sweets. With real care coupled with love, she was asking about my family, my studies, present job etc.....
On hearing that I am at Malaysia, she told that
exactly two years before she was at Malaysia. She was honoured with "Swarangalin Arasi" award in a special function organised by Mrs.Dato Seri Samuvelu, a local Indian Minister. She showed me the invitation too. She added that she would have asked me to attend that function if she had known me earlier. Poor me!!!!!!! She refreshed those days with an admiration, Mr.Jairam with a smile sitting for he had problems in taking food, which was duly commented by Vairamuthu Sir.
It was paining to hear that until this time too people in the music industry (nothing to say about TFI) play politics. I was told to say about my collections and from when on I started loving her songs. She was really happy and over-thrilled. The talk extended. She took me to her house around and showed her paintings. I listed her the recent devotional albums which I collected
from Trichy(not too many, just 5 in number). She gifted me 4 more devotional albums after confirming that I don't have those. Also she gave me a cover containing her photo (wishing words and sign at the back) along with her visiting card. She did not forget to collect my address and told me that she would inform me in advance if she happens to visit Malaysia.
She mentioned that she has involved in creating educational awareness through music, which was not done by anyone before. Luckily I happened to know about the Holy Cross College Photography Club Inaugural function. If it were known to me before, sure I should have planned my trip to cover that occasion, again not fortunate enough.
Shall wait for another chance!!!!!!! When the time to depart came, she made multiple confirmations about my lunch at my friend's house. She came to the lift with Mr.Jairam and wished me with a soft touch in my shoulder. She reminded me to write to her after hearing those devotional albums.
Don't know what else to write?????? I had a real filling feeling that day which is still existing.
I wish to extend my thanks to Neel for he only paved the way to talk to VJ though I have a close association with her songs since my school days.

Mumtaj,
That was very nice. Mr&Mrs.Jairam are such genuine and caring people. Of course we have Naaz to thank for he made it possible for both of us to meet with the Jairams.
Take your time with conversion. I am guilty of not converting many of the songs from those rare tapes to digital versions too :-)

Neel D / Mumtaj -
Any cultured artiste will readily embrace an informed and curious fan / critic. Not to mention that is can all be immensely flattering to see how their art has touched and brightened the person(s) in their presence. I am sure VJ saw that in you when you met her. (And my role in any of this is minimal bordering on negligible.)
I hope I can get to meet VJ in person during my upcoming India trip. I have not met her in many years, and so much must have changed in the interim. But the voice hasn't, if Magizhampoo Maalaiyile is anything to go by!

Naaz,
I admit the genuine reasons elaborated by you. Let me take sides with Neel in thanking you enough without any exaggeration mixing.
I am not aware whether you got to know the devotionals released in the recent years both by Sangeetha and Subham- Mahalingam, Songs on Yogi Ram SurathKumar (He is from Thiruvannamalai), Sri Ranganathar Suprabatham (different from Tamil Suprabatham), Kolaru Padhigam, Vinayagar Agaval etc. I am totally elated on hearing the voice. I could feel the existence of the very same thought about that exotic/eloquent voice in me which I had 30 years ago.
Despite that many many changes have occurred in the interim, abslutely no identification of any change in the voice. How coud that be????????
I pity those who really miss the chance of utilizing/enjoying the voice of such an eminent personality. I don't try to exalt anything, but..........
Onething is very certain-nobody can stop/prevent a person from being maintaining the quality amingst turmoil in the music industry.
