I'm a new visitor to this website. I couldn't see anyone discussing about Vani Jayaram's songs.
Let me start this one.(It had been there previously pls. forgive me!)
"Ezhu swarangalukkul ethanai paadal..
Ithaya surangathul ethanai kelvi...
Vaazhum manitharukkul ethanai salanam.."
Wow! Beautiful voice!

Bala,
"aaj kal teremere" cannot be Sharda !
Naaz,
I was the one who started it - not Neel. Re Shar(a)da please give me a break. Titli udi is a classic case of adenoids ( I am not doing a spell check) The only heroine to fit the bell then would be Rajshri.
Suraj is it the Rajendra Kumar in a horse with V'mala or am I barking- as is my wont- up the wrong tree. Venus productions should then take this (dis)credit then!

My mistake. "Aaj Kal..' Was Suman K.

I was only telling what I know and believe to be true. The post was self-explanatory, and I wouldn't take a word back from it. There are other examples of shrinkage and such that I could trot out, but it's a litany. How about you look them up during the break? :-)
Bala -
I do think that Suman Kalyanpur had a great style and voice. I wouldn't say the same for Sharada.
Suraj was a Rajendra / Vyjayanthi hit. If it was a remake of a tamil film, I'd be interested in knowing which one.

Naaz,
whatever....
I did not ask you to take any word back. and I didn't mention anything for or against shrinkage! As Bala said I do believe S-J had a tiff with Lata so they tried to prop S up but they soon patched up and all was well ;-)) once more in HFM.
O P Nayyar was the one MD who gave Lata the cold shoulder ( may be it was the other way around!)
Geeta Dutt as an alternative to Lata yes
Asha post 1990 > Lata true
but sharda by whatever name in place of Lata is no no!
and now that you have drawn me into it shouldn't Jency or SPS or even sharada aspire to challenge the throne ? otherwise they shouldn't be there.
the difference is some end up ---to use cricket parlance ---as sujit Somasekhars and others blossom into Laxmans. There in lies the difference.
I hope S Somasekar and Shardha don't take offence!

"Shar(a)da please give me a break" -
I am sorry I misread this. I took your "(a)" to be a reference to my comment on shortening. "Give me a break" right after made me think that that was indeed the case. You can see how this might have happened?
In my previous posts I have been very clear that Sharada was neither an outstanding singer nor a threat to the queens of the establishment. My point was simply this: If one or two songs went her way (out of 12 say) that wouldn't have been such an intolerable or negative thing. After all, many others, no better (or worse) qualified than Sharada, have gone places in TFM - and still do.
Neel D -
I heard the song samples. Such diversity, clarity and range at 60! A remarkable feat by VJ!
I particularly liked - Tamizhisaiyin Amudham, Ezhuththu Pirakkum Munne, Chandira Mandalaththai, and Ennai Marandhaya (I loved the "ghazal" ambience in this with the soulful opening!)
Pudhu Vaanam - superb arrangement with VJ gliding over some magnificent peaks. A real winner, too.
What a delight to hear Tamizh - pure, simple and divine - sung with such care and delight!
Please keep us posted on the release date.

Naaz/Neel:
Yes, this is a wonderful song. The whole album is so nice! Just one query: is this is a film or a non-film album?
Who is the composer? (Vani Jairam herself again?)
thanks!

naaz,
Yes agreed . I can now see the context of your post but the break was from saradha 's voice.
but of course worse singers "have gone places in TFM - and still do" but that does not make them good !!

The flat page (and varied syntactical compulsions) leads to all sorts of misreadings and knee-jerk reactions and rebuttals. I am as susceptible to this as any body else here. However, I can say this for myself: I give each post due thought and try to do my best to respond to the content therein (the poster's intent remains a chimera, more or less.) Thanks for your understanding.
Good? What's good? They're not good, a host of them. But - is my good your good? I can think of many un-good voices that shouldn't have been allowed 5 miles from a mike...Now I can chuckle, musing how "mike-testing" took on a whole new connotation, and I didn't know it for so many years.
And the following - oh, the following :-)

Naaz,
Do you need to bring in the black humour every time? However I have to admit I like(d) following the following ;-)

Naaz,
It is indeed a remarkable feat by VJ.
AV,
It is a non-film album. The composer is a newcomer by the name Sakthinathan.

You have to also enlist the lyricist(s) for the new VJ songs at the website. Some beautiful moments in the samples (and this is just the second listening):
Velluththadhu Yaaradhu Vinvelichchelaiyai
Viriththadhu Yaaradhu Andha Vaanvelichchaalaiyai
Sirusiru Nelmani Kannmani Thirandhida
Eeramaai Pesudhey
....
Sendhaazhai Madal Mele Dhinamum Mugam Paarththu
Sangeetha Isaivaanil Thavazhum Poongaatru
Poongaatrin Isaikkaethaan Ezhuththaedhum Kidaiyaadhu
Naan Paadum Tamizh Paattum Ennaalum Azhiyaadhu (touche!!!)
----
Vizhi Vaasal Eera Moga Raagam Isaikkiradhey
----
Thalaikkuliththa Eeramellaam Kaayavillaiye
Thalaiva, Un Moochchuppattaal Eeramillaiye
----
All of them nuanced, felt and refreshingly original. Kudos to the lyricists who try harder!! :-)
The use of the harmonium, sitar, sarod, sarangi / dilruba - along with the bass guitar - works a seamless magic. Sakthinathan is a name to watch.

I missed this (got the second half of the image) but the whole image is definitely spectacular:
Alarivizhundhapadi
Aruvi Thandha Nadhi
Kazhanigal Thaedudhey
Sirusiru Nelmani
Kannmani Thirandhida
Eeramaai Pesudhey
The source, the flow, and the damp and blooming crests....the whole image curves beautifully to achieve closure. Who's pen did this one come from?

Photo lab, video studio set up at college
TIRUCHI, SEPT.27 . A state-of-the-art Photo Laboratory and Video Studio, deemed to be the first of its kind in educational institutions in central districts of the State, was inaugurated at the Holy Cross College today.
With this facility, the college has plans to take up production work shortly through its department of Visual Communication, in association with television channels. The facility was established to primarily enable students to undertake practical works such as editing CDs and audio taping within the campus, according to the principal, Sr. Rosy. The facilities were inaugurated by noted playback singer Vani Jairam.
In her inaugural address, Ms. Vani Jairam, told the students that an approach to life with humility would help them achieve their goals in today's competitive environment. There is no substitute for hard work, she said, stressing that they must convert obstacles into opportunities. Never feel frustrated, and learn to increase happiness by making the best use of technological advances, she told the students. There must be value in education and entertainment too, she added.
