What is Contribution? It means doing some thing that has never been done before. Or playing a significant role. In Thamizh, the word that comes to mind is "puratchi."
I believe every aspect of our great Isai Gnani has been explored in this forum except for a particular genre of songs. In this particular kind of songs, Ilayaraja is the mudisoodaa mannan. No one from MSV, KVM, ARR can touch Ilayaraja in this matter.
Okay, enough of this, let me get to the matter at hand. I urge all Fans, Fanatics, Dissenters and everyone else to contribute to this thread. Let me do the Pillayar Suzhi:
1. Nethu rathiri yemma (ursurpassed description of what happened)
2. Nilaa kaayuthu (who would have thought that munungals can be put to tune)
3. Antha nilavathaan naa kaiyule pudichen (by the master himself)
4. Eduthu vach paalum virichu vacha paayum (if music can be sexy, this is it)
5. Maaman oru naal malliyapoo koduthaan (innocent but deadly)
6. Orampo orampo rukkumani vandi varuthu (no doublespeak here - every thing is direct)
7. Raathiriyil poothirukkum (what a romatic song!)
8. Vaada vaattuthu (yet another masterpiece by the master himself)

tigger - apology accepted.
btw, don't be trigger happy and go shooting around. :)
Greatest also can mean a contribution "never done in such a scale before."
Want a simpler explanation?
Assume 3 cooks are making a curry. Cook A adds inji, puli, vengayam and kaaram (etc) Cook B also adds the same stuff and so does Cook C. But Cook B adds triple the amount kaaram added by the other two - therefore kaaram is the greatest contribution of Cook B to the curry, is it not?
Simple, eh?

If still, then every other song in TFM qualifies itself to this category then this would disqualify IR to be the "Greatest Contributor" in this category and i guess the starter of thread won't endorse to that.
I believe I didn't mention my views on that particular song. There is a fine line between suggestiveness and downright crassness as far as TFM is concerned. Ilayaraja crossed this line many a time, leading him to get this crown.
twilight_zone, come back to earth! Never have I heard any thing as outrageous as this. The discussion is about TFM NOT me!!!
Why are you analysing me? LOL. This takes Vettiness to a new height!!! LOL LOL.
You are supposed to comment about my comment, not about me, for heaven's sake.

"Kaadhal enbadhu podhu odamai" is from "Paalaivana rojakkal" penned by Karunanidhi. It featurees Janakaraj singing it with a "kidikidippu" toy put to good use. However I would hardly call this song seductive. In fact, watching it would be a turn off.
Now listening to Doobie Brothers "without love where would you be now" is kind of on similar lines to "appanum aathalum seraamal pona, neeyumdhaan porakka mudiyunma", although whether the "love" in the DB song refers to the love of the subject's parents is debatable.

"u r supposed to comment about my comments and NOT ME"...ok holy baby, i wud comment on whatever you have commented...
When u take an IR's song, its a riddle, and there are a million ways to approach each song of this genius.
CASE STUDY - Take a so called 'bawdy' song, "chakarakatti chakarakatti sandanapetti"...(bawdy to pure holy souls like you) the various ways that u wud approcah this song is,
a)The FOLK GANA door - knock knock, and the songs opens up as a simple folkish gana song, satisfying rural base of tamilnadu & urban youths alike.
b)The RENDITION door - knock, knock, wow good rendition by the singers, satisfying to wanna be singers..
c) The CARNATIC door - knock, knock,...man, guess what a cool song in CHARUKESI raga...so satisfying to people with carnatic knowledge...
d) The RYTHM door - knock knock, the song displays stunning changes in rythm patterns, cool..that wud satisfy DRUMS SIVAMANI for sure...
e) The BAWDY lyrics door - knock, knock, aw gawd, the lyrics sucks...oh that wud pain the ears of you, GOWRI...
:-) Now, GOWRI, it al depends on what door you knock at. Look what door you have chosen :-)))..OOPS, sorry again for commenting upon u instead of your "comments"

In other words, you are telling everyone to ignore the sexy tune of say Nilaa kaayuthu, ignore the munungals, ignore the sexy singing, ignore, ignore, ignore...
Sounds like a cat that has closed its eyes!
And, can you stop being condesending?
Or maybe, I should begin analysing and passing comments about you-hiding-behind-a-pseudonym.

Have a field day criticising you? C'mon friend, it takes a lot to get me going...you sound a bit friendly, atleast a lot mature than some pathetic morons that irk my psyche, and force me to take the 'neutral fan' incarnation :-)...as far as pseudonyms go, i have three variations...a)My own name, that i post in threads with real intensions & worth, b) "twilight_zone" when i want to talk friendly, c)"neutral fan" when i want to really turn it on...and call "WAR" :-)
as far as my weekend is concerened, obviously i can't waste it over here, i have far better options, a lot of things to do in my personal love life...
what do you think whynot? :-) Ain't i right?

Wasn't I saying that the starter of the thread wouldn't agree to a conclusion that throws away IR being one of the "Greatest Contributor" to such songs and IR's greatest is also such song? I was not bothering who said appanum aathaaLum saeraama pona as one such song in "this" category. That is why i did not quote the person's name who classified this song into "this" category. I quoted another such song and was extrapolating to suggest that many many many songs prior to IR, during IR, after IR have such lyrics which are NOT actually songs of "this" category. That post was not at all saying IR was *not* crossing limit of suggestiveness. I was and am arguing that this song doesn't even qualify as a suggestive song. This is a thathtuva song due to virakkthi (be a high class thaththuvam or not so great thaththuvam is not the point here). How come then it become a suggestive or line crossed open "this" type of song? If you(Gowri) have not said that then that post was not for you at all(even now i did not see who posted it). I guess u got what i was/am saying.

What would twilight_zone do if he was in the Oscar committee, and given a porn movie to evaluate...... (oru pechukku, NOM)?
a)The camerawork door - knock knock, and the movie opens up as a a fantastic work of art.
b)The ACTING door - knock, knock, wow good acting by the leads, satisfying to all watchers..
c) The BGM door - knock, knock,...man, guess what a cool song in the background...so satisfying to people ...
d) The editing door - knock knock, the movie displays stunning changes in the scenes...
CONCLUSION - THIS MOVIE IS OF OSCAR MATERIAL

I think twilight_zone has a point when it comes to certain songs.
I mean there are some songs which are outwardly crude and crass. But some like "sinthiya venmani" etc, I had no idea about the hidden meanings behind these songs till I read the translations in this thread. You need to go looking for it. Some things are in the mind. Like someone suggested "puthu vellai mazhai" had a connotation. I refuse to accept it as it spoils the aura of the song in my mind. So it's anyone's guess if it did mean something else.
Digressing from tfm, ever heard the song Sweat by Inner Circle, that goes like "Alalalalong...Girl I want to make u sweat"? In an interview, the band members claimed the whole song was about making a gal dance for longer and longer hours at the club and explained each line one by one in the highly suggestive song. But if u heard the lyrics, u won't think that's what it was all about. But they maintained it throughout. So maybe it was the work of your own mind, u think.
Aadhavan, ur analogy is good. But u can let kids hear an IR song as being innocent, they wont realise anything. You can't let kids watch porn no matter how innocent they are. They'll figure out something fishy is going on. btw, wat is this about porn being considered for Oscars???

whynot agreeing with twilight_zone.
Now, why would that be unusual? Why not, I ask. :)
Ah, how nice to be young and innocent!!
Many of us would have got our behinds smacked for having dared sing IR's songs, when we were young!
You should ask twilight_zone about it. :)
