This topic is derived from the exciting debate that began in the "Why no female MDs?" thread. Mano and I say yes to the Patti Mandram question while Ramki came out with a No response and gave more examples to back up his claim. The key is to show evidence from TFM as facts for your contention.

I have already made my point, but hadn't given enough examples. Here
are some more examples to reiterate my earlier claims.
The following is another example of the female seen as the
enticing feast:
inbamaay ennai maatravaa unnaiyae vandhu ootravaa
madhu boadhai vaendumaa idhazh boadhai nalladhu
un paeraich cholgiraen adhil boadhai ulladhu
parugavae varugavae
In this song, the woman sings that her body and soul are her lover's
property:
choalikkul thaegam irukku
maaraappil manasu irukku
rendukkum uriyavan endhan kaadhalan kaadhalan
(engae purchase order?)
Adhae paadalil pennin ganniyathai maelum eduthuk koorugiraar irattai
kal, idhil iru pen kuralgal vaeru:
Kaelvi: Paavaadai kaatril parandhaal nee enna seivaai? Pala paerin
kangal padumae nee enna seivaai?
Badhil: Paavaadai kaatril parandhaal pala paerin kangal pattaal,
paavaadai kondu mugathai mooduvaen mooduvaen (aaha, enna oru idea!)
Aval varuvaala endru aengiyaa kaadhalan etharkaaga aengukiraan indru
vilakkugiraar VM:
en pallamaana ullam vellamaaga aval varuvaalaa
kannoadu naan kanda vannangal poaga
chudidhaaril moodaadha baagangal vaazhga
Innumoru kaadhalan aadharavu marundhu tharum akkaraiyudan:
ennammaa ennammaa undhan
nenjil ulla vali enna ennammaa
sollammaa sollammaa adhaith
thottuth thottuth thudaikkanum sollammaa (Chae, enna oru akkarai thambikku)
Bharathi kanda pudhumaippen kooda ithanai azhagaaga thanathu kaadhalai
kooriyadhillai:
en mundhaanaikkul nee vasikkalaam

To Mrs.Kanchana:
Your presentation stood apart in terms of its depth, balance & creativity. I agree totally with your point that VM is part of a chauvinistic system; as a lyricist, he has minimal control over the "content/tone/mood" set by the director.
Since I don't have your e-mail ID I'd like to say the following to you here, hope you don't mind. I've followed your DF posting for the past several months. I'm impressed with your liberated thinking, knowledge of diverse subjects such as lyrics, western classical, jazz, tamil literature,TFM history, and the patience to share these with your fellow DFers. As a Bharadhi fan and a writer myself, I see his pudhumaippenn in your progressive ideals, knowledge and gentle assertiveness. You are a class act,ma'am, and I hope we get to read more of your vibrant writings here.
One of your DF fans,
Sridhar

Hi,
I am strongly against the topic which is going on at present " vairamuthu as chanvenist". I like to mention something that have u ever seen vairamuthu in his books depcting girls in a ackward way. I t might have happened in films because it is for commercial purpose and mind u in some cases we have to compramise on certain things as cinema until now is not a single man show. Further even the great kannadhasan was forced to write some songs depcting females in little bit downward fashion. i can give the example of " elantha pazham" song in one of super duper movie. So it all in the game and there is no point in

Vairamuthu in his real life has been reported to beat his wife on a number of occasions...If that is tue, he is not only a chavunist but definetely someone who should not be respected

Vinoth,
Why wake up a dead horse to show your objection? This thread went dead three years ago. And after reading your post, I don't know what your objection is.
venksubbi,
Unless there is published proof of your claims, please don't use slander in a public forum to establish your views.

There were published reports of these incidents in tamil magazines like Kumudham and Ananda Vikatan in the late '80s (about 88-89) time period.

I agree with Udhaya. VM may be loud mouthed but can't agree he is chavunist. I don't like him personally but his lyrics are far better compared to the present generation poets.
If at all the songs sound chavunist, it may be because of the situation and the director should take the responsibility for that not the lyricist.

he is like a fluid which acquires the shape of the container.
