Is YSR the new ARR?

It has been mentioned on more than one occasion that YSR is the MD who will take ARR's place. YSR has produced many hit albums lately using new, fresh and funky styles of music. I believe that this statement has been proved by Yuvan after Dheena, Rishi and Thulluvatho Ilamai. When compared to ARR's recent Thenali and Star we can see that YSR has taken the lead in this race to be the best. YSR has been signed for many new and exciting projects so I can see that he will be the block in ARR's attempt to regain his position as No.1 in TFM.
What are your thoughts on this?

  I agree to you that thenali is for a different set of audience, But I included it in discussion, because I wanted to compare what ARR and YSR are doing thesedays.,
  
  Going by your theory, I suppose we can map Dheena to Padayappa or Muthu (Based on the kind of movie and scope for songs) - not to Kadhal Desam., Probably Kadhal Desam can be compared with YSR's latest 'ThuLLuvathoo ILamai'. Same way, Thenali, a comedy story made for a STAR, can be compared with YSR's Rishi.
  
  Now I think YSR has the clear edge with Dheena and Rishi over Padayappa/Muthu and Rishi., ThuLLuvathoo iLamai may not be as good as Kathal Desam, But YSR has done a sincere attempt there - you have to take the director also into account, Kadhir is an experienced guy in making such movies and Kasthuri Raja is new when it comes to city based movies like TI. May be that had an effect on YSR. Also TI is a lowbudget movie. (Except Unni Krishnan & Harini, all others are new/growing singers.)
  
  YSR is yet to get some movie like Gentle Man or Roja or Duet .... give him that and see what he can produce, that is my argument. Hope Nandha will show the real YSR to us and whether he can be compared with ARR or not.

  Fine..NagaS...whatever..let's hope..but there is no need to cast a slur on ARR...Muthu and Padayappa were good work too...and Dheena had songs like "Oru Kaadhal website..." come on...give me a break..imagine Rajini singing it in Muthu or Padayappa ! So please give a thought to the audiences the films cater to...film-making is not just art...there is science, sociology, psychology and technology behind it ! Ajith has a huge fan following more among college-going and school-going kids...so that explains the nature of the songs...but still "Nee Illai Endral.." and "Sollamal..." were excellent work...the others were just ok...but the choreography was a sodhappal..just dance based..nothing innovative and creative..and it was boring to see the same kind of steps from Kushi, Amarkallam and all the other youth targetted films...

  And "Rishi"...pls spare me..it is one YSR's worst....like ARR did with some obscure film..I can't remember the name...
  
  Only the title song in Rishi was innovative..the rest didn't pass the test..

  guys i agree that minnale is good album but it seems that most interlude music inthe song are recycle of Arr.

  venmathi venmathiye - similiar to kadal enum terveluthi
  iru vli unathu- very close to oru tuli viluthu
  
  So i think hj not better than arr and he don't have his own style

  i am a fan of a.r.rahman but still listen to other md's ..i think ysr is good...not only is his music superb but he is also consistent..just like ar.rahman...but ysr is still no match for ar.rahman when arr is in his elements..just look at taal,kadhal desam,minsara kanavu,kandukonden2 and rangeela...i think the songs 4 thenali wasnt popular cause they were diffrent..if he does the same style than people will accuse him of being repetetive...i think dheena is ysr's best..and people i am denitely not ir's fan..i despise him..

  I really wanted to put forward this opinion. I was watching KD this week end. I wanted to answer some one who said that "Krishna krishna " from DDD is first of its kind. I have nothing for or against KK form DDD.
  
  I do not have any personal liking to HJ. Infact almost all his songs in M seems to have impression of ARR (heavy impression). If he continues like this HJ is gone. But, the fact is now in TN Minnale is a bit hit musically. Where ever you go you hear it. It has happened many times to almost all ARR's movies. They were hit throughout a year. But Minnale is now the front runner.
  One thing I think I forgot to mention in my last posting. If you take the all india (Hindi actually) popular album and songs, then I think Lagaan is way ahead. An exceptional master piece.

  The point here is not to compare YSR with ARR, but to more accept the fact that YSR is probably the next best selling MD after ARR. If ARR openly said that he was not going to score for TFM any more, your next choice would be YSR because he is the only other unique MD with a modern and catchy style. I don't think it is a case of YSR being the new ARR, but more YSR being the best MD after ARR.

  CF....you are right..yesterday at the MTV Indian Top 20 Countdown - Lagaan's "Ghana, Ghana.." was number 1 and VJ Mini mentioned that it was still holding on for the past few weeks...I guess that's good !

  Mediator has got it right there...after all..ARR started the trend of synthesized music in TFM and IFM and no matter what as long as YSR and HJ cater to this trend...they will only be considered as trend followers !

  No recognision to YSR, his music totally basic things from ARR otherwise he trying some songs from his father's style. WHAT I MEAN IS THERE IS NO ORIGINALITY IN YSR MUSIC. HJ somewhat better than YSR. As long HJ stands in the industry YSR diffcult to survive and possibly IR helps YSR to boost as a father.

  Denan, you have shown that you truly don't understand the complexity of TFM. If you feel that HJ has originality in his music that YSR doesn't have, then you are not hearing the same mminnale cd that I hear. Every track on Minnale is a xerox copy of a previous ARR song. Can you name a song of YSR that is similiar to any other? Take Kadhal website, or Sollamal Thottu, or even tracks from his new Thulluvatho Ilamai such as Ithu Kathala or Kanmunne? Don't show your ignorance in forums by posting such unwarranted comments like those you posted.

  Just one test, go to 10 people who haven't yet listened to 'Minnalae' (I doubt whether somebody will be there like that, its a big hit :-), let them hear the songs and guess the MD, I bet atleast 8 out of 10 would say ARR,
  
  Can you say that for YSR ? I agree HJ is making good waves in TFM, But if you say he is original, then I am Sachin Tendulkar.

  Precisely, HJ did produce good music in Minnale, but there wasn't originality. Thats the big advantage YSR has over HJ. YSR produces music that caters for the audience and sells well.This is why I believe that YSR is the md who will take up ARR's poat in TFM. He produces quality original music time after time.He showed his talent in Poovellam Kaytuppar and his albums have just got better and better over time.When looking at Dheena and TI you can see the strides he has made. Someone said we should compare Dheena with Kadhal desam and we can see YSR hasn't got the maturity that ARR has in his music. Well my response to that is that YSR hasn't got the years that ARR has behind him.YSR is a mere 21 and he produced dheena which is being compared to kadhal desam which ARR did at the age of 31. So YSR has done at 21 what ARR did at 31 showing that YSR has the talent to be the next MD who will be as big as ARR if not bigger.
