venkat,
Add a couple more lines to that category - the "thArozhugum nagara vIthigaLil ...", "mugaththil pUththirukkum mudiyil ...", and his signature "vErvai pUththa undhan sattai vAsam ..." He just was out of ideas that day - happens to the best of people. This song tops my HSHL (Heavenly Song, Horrendous Lyrics) list, in spite of all the respect I have for VM.

bb,kupps: In the third repetition she seems to sing 'kanavile ezhudhi muditha kavithai' meaning 'finished writing in my dream'. Later on it is 'maditha', probably a mistake(?). Ezhudhi muditha is more appropriate.

bb: It depends on whether VM was present in the recording session or listened to the recording afterwards. I don't know whether Chitra can read Tamil or needs a transliteration. If it was written as 'muditha' in transliteration, she might have used the pronounciation for 'mud'(English). May be it was too late to re-record. ARR should take the responsibility.

Anybody knows the raagaa of the song "kalakalavena..."(Movie:rhythm).
Its an excellent and difficult Song which was
sung by sadhana sargam in a wonderful way. Sadhana literally does justice to this song...
Hope its one of the finest songs sadhana has ever sung. Vasanth(Director) has picturised this song very well. (Vasanth has a real Good Music Sense)
Hats off to U A.R.R

Song of the Day: Ezhisai geethamE from Rasigan oru rasigai.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/ezhisai.rm
- A classic song by K.J.Yesudas. Music by Ravindran. The song starts off in a slow, melancholic manner, and IMO, reaches great heights in the charanam. On the first look, the lyrics don't look that appealing. Not sure who the lyricist is.

Good one bb!
‘Unakkagave naan’ (SJ) from the same film was featured earlier in SOTD, which led to a very interesting discussion on the film Hemavin Kadhalargal-1985, which also had music by Raveendran.
There is also a SJ version of Ezhisai geethamae’ .The song’s original is ‘Ezhu sawarangalum’ from the Malayalam film Chiriyo Chiri, also by Raveendran.
ROR-1986 was among Satyaraj’s early films as hero. Saavi-1985 was the beginning, followed by Kadalora Kavithaigal- also 1986. ROR had some other great songs like ‘Paadi azhaithen’-KJY and ‘Kaatrinilae varum geetham’-VJ. I also vaguely remember a song beginning with a donkey’s braying –‘Kazhuthai satham nalla satham’ (KJY/SJ) that had some amazing interludes, not sure if it is from the same film.
Raveendran made a good beginning in tfm, but could not sustain for long. However his works in films like Hemavin Kadhalargal-1985 (Kaalai poovae nee vaa-SJ), Dharma Devathai-1986 (Thodu thodu vaa mella-KJY/SJ), Kannmaniyae Pesu-1986 (Nalam paaduvaen nee vaazhathaan-SJ, Vilakku vechaa-KSC, Maname mayangaathe-KJY, Vaanam engal ellai-MV/KSC), Lakshmi Vandhachu-1986(Kaadhal vennila-SJ), Thaayae Neeyae Thunai-1987 (Koo koo kuyilae- SPB/VJ, Chellakkiliaye-KSC) are certainly worth remembering.

SAravanan if im not wrong, Satyaraj played villains character in ROR. Venu Aravind('alaigal' fame Ranga) debuted as hero. nalleNNai chitra was his jodi(Ambika being the lead heroine)

Ramki- I thought Satyaraj the hero, or rather the anti-hero, and Ambika's lover too? (Of course, its years since I saw the film) Likewise, in Saavi he was the anti-hero, with Nizhalgal Ravi playing the good man- but the chief protagonist remained Satyaraj.
Btw, do you remember the 'Kazhuthai saththam nalla saththam' song- is it from ROR? And, also who sings 'Ezhisai geethame' and 'Paadi azhaithaan' in the film?

Saravanan -
The song you are thinking of is less heard, but definitely a unique composition by Raveendran.
The song begins with a list of words, pronounced separately, beginning with "Velli..." (I'll have to dust my tape to give you the rest) and proceeds to the next line, which is" Kazhudhai Sattham Nalla Sagumam, Naanum Adhakkaettu Sollapporaen Oru Paatu, Aaha Nalla Yogam, Adi Aaththi..."
SJ joins in half way with a memorable hum...and the song shifts to another pattern.
"Padi Azhaiththaen Unnai Dhinam Thaedum Nenjam Vaarai En Devi, Thaarai
En Kannil Minnum Gangai Vellam..."
Yes, it is from Rasigan Oru Rasigan.
It also had this KJY-SJ duet "Amma Adi Amma Sugam Summa Varuma..." I think.
Saavi was a tamizkakkam of a Hindi bomb called "Aitbaar," which in turn was a scene by scene (with songs) lift of Dial M for Murder.
The "Saavi" is was gives it all away in the end.

Iravu pookaL was the first movie that portrayed Satyaraj as a 'Hero'.
Saavi & ROR has Satyaraj, what they call it now, as Kadhayin Nayagan.

I have seen the Malayalam version of 'paadi azhaithen' and it was pathetic. It was used for a comedy situation(!!) with balachandra menon(i think)clad in lungi, singing this song with a couple of friends.Swapna was the heroine.

Thanks Naaz! That's the song-- amazing interludes, especially with the cooing of the koels, and the humming of SJ that follows--
Yes, Saavi followed the well traversed route of the Dimple/Raj Babbar/Suresh Oberoi starrer Aitbaar (Kisi nazar ko tera intezaar aaj bhi hai- exquisite!) and Dial M For Murder.

Saravanan -
More on ROR:
The SJ section begins with a hum and proceeds to this line: "Yaen Maunam Ilanguyile Paadu..."
The plot of ROR was about a celebrated singer (ambika) and her die-hard fan (satyaraj) He is the Rasigan of the title. On a break in some sanctuary, ambika hears a cowherd singing and is mesmerised by his voice. He is the one who sings "Ezhisai Geethame" and "Paadi Azhaippaen" - although his introduction is through the "Kazhudhai" song. Ambika becomes his promoter. Hence, Oru Rasigai. Complications and misunderstandings ensue - and the films slides down the beaten path.
I don't know who the director for this film was, but the opening scene was a direct lift from Aboorva Ragangal, with ambika doing a Sri Vidya with "Kaatrinile Varum Geetham" as the credits flash and disappear. This song, which is another gem, did not make it to OO (the rest did) as it had the credits as part of the song :-( (Ezhuswarangallukkul shared the same fate.)
