Kathiruntha malli Malli is not Lalitha it is something like PuriyaDhanashri or Rasikaranjani(traces of Ninnai Saran adainthen and Putham Puthu Poo POthathO)

r u sure abt ManasukkuLla nayana satham in mallu vetti Minor(it is listed as Harikhamboji)...enakkenavo kharaharapriya nu thoNothu....interestingly once in a concert at Thiruvaiyaaru a guy sang Harikamboji and I thought it was Kharaharapriya...experts pls throw light if thethere is some connection b/w these two(ethaavathu Shruthibedhama irunthu tholaya poguthu)....

And the connection betn. Kharaharapriya and HarihAmbodhi-they differ only in Ga-the former has G2 and the latter has G3

is it same as the "blues" scale?

also, it would be apt if someone gives the notes for the 1st line---

My try for the 1st line(using the 12-swara scheme)---
dha Sa Ga1....Ga1 Ga1 Ga2.....Ga2 Dha Pa Ga2.....Sa Re Ga2 Sa dha.....

Sindhuja that song is available in dhool.com but this time when I heard that song I thought it is more like Harikambhoji...but innum kuzhappama thaan irukku.pls. experts confirm on the song "ManasukkuLLa naayana satham"

Ram,Quite clearly HarikAmbodhi,if u ask me(except for a slight N3 in the prelude)-no G2 anywhere-so not Kharaharapriya.

IR_fan,vAzhve mAyamA does sound like Dharmavati,but I think it gives a "Shivaranjani feel" coz of prayogams like DSGRS,S-D-P,R-G-P and so on,i.e skipping M and N.But definitely,Dharmavati is what it shud be called IMHO.

Yes, sindhuja, thanks for confirming..it is Dharmavathi alright.

And Ram, i guess both 'Vaanile thenila' AND 'Vanithamani Vanamogini' are chakravagam based.

And 'Manasukulla Naayana Satham' is Harikhambhodhi based.

Has anyone taken note of the ragas used in "Raajavin Ramanamaalai", devotional album on ramana maharishi by IR? Every song has a nice raga base..deeply moving numbers...

IMO, vaazvE maayama from gaayathri is a diluted shivaranjani. dharmaavathiyoda saayal konjam kooda illai.

Sindhuja - I do hear those. M2 is faint but N3 is prominent - I agree (thirai pOttu Nee -N3). Even in the song "enadhu gaanam un kaadhil vizavillaiya" from "oru thaayin sabatham has this kind of anya swaras. But the song's feel is highly shivaranjanish. That is why I said, it is a diluted shivaranjani and not a pure one.
