Great news... Hope ARR picks up from here... I guess I was very doubtful (though I may not have explicitly said so in this forum) of BD's success. It was not a question of hating ARR or anything, but it came from my personal dislike of the BD score as it is. Anyway, people in London seem to love it, that is what matters. All the best ARR!

ARR himself told that this song may not be liked by Indian fans as it is 'aracha mavu'. But these 'jandukkal' just for the heck are cutting and pasting!! Sonthama oru taste kedaiyatha? It is a failure!! Who said it is a success? Just listen to those crappy repeated tunes. Are you deaf men? The songs suck!! If at all there is any crowd for those kind of shows, it is because people consider it as get together. I bet 'Jurassic Baby' by Crazy Mohan in US had a massive and big crowd than that stupid and expensive show. If you think they go because it is good, then you are tasteless stupids!! Mozart will kill both webber and Rahman for comparing him with these junk MD ARR. ARR's ideal competitor is Deva. Basha Paru song became a big hit!! Do you think there was any class in that song? Annamala Annamala song became a hit. Thirundhada jenmangal

Guys I have to say, I managed to see Bombay Dreams last night. I am not a big fan of IR music, so don't band me as being a HCIRF, I just enjoy all music, but I do have to say that BD has been Hyped up so much, that I was greatly disappointed when I saw it. I see there are many posters on this thread but I doubt that even 10% of you would have seen the show.
It actually turned out to be the biggest waste of money for me,, and that too I got the ticket at a discounted rate as the promoters are trying to shift the tickets. Just yeaterday it was announced that BD has extended it's running dates, and will now be running till March 2003.
Perso9nally I felt the vocals were very poor. It is obvious that all the performers were selected purely for looks and not for singing ability.
ARR has simply rehashed many of his previous releases and I was extermely let down to hear the songs. I feel that it is a great injustice to see so many people posting on this thread without having seen the show. It is simply a case of people building up the name of the show simply because it is ARR and his music is usually great.
ARR has failed to deliver on this occasion.
As for SHakalaka baby being a big hit in the UK?I don't think so. It is virtually unheard of, and as somebody posted earlier, it can only be seen on asian tv channels. It did not even manage to enter the UK charts it was so sub-standard. ARR should have left well enough alone after the Tamil version of the song.
Big thumbs down

well said nandu, even i managed to see BD last week, well, what to say.. utterly disappointed.
so what IF BD is a hit?, britney, west life, anu malik and deva are also hit among their respective crowd, doesnt mean their music is worth listening.
disapponted with arr fans for going so ga ga about the music, its like ir fans going gaga about devan's music, every one knows that both are rubbish.
shak laka in uk charts!!!some one is really dreaming!!! and chart music is rubbish any way.
arr has given tamil music some fantastic songs and to compare that to bd is.....!

When I first heard BD on mail-bag, I didnt find the music appealing. I thought I was not the targeted audience for Bombay dreams. But the audio as such with many recycled tunes never created any interest. Definetely I am disappointed with ARR, may be my expectation didnt match with ARR's output. But ARR getting fame out of it and getting more oppurtunities from this is definetely what one could wish for ARR after such a hardwork and effort he put into this.

Exactly. we have to stick to our originality. There is no point in scoring MTV tunes which are available in plenty. That is the difference between Ravi Shankar, Zubin Mehta, Illayaraja and others. Ravi Shankar was nominated for Oscar alongwith George Fenton. His touching music in the movie "Gandhi" is a testimony to worldwide appreciation of pure Indian music. Someone has to revive Indian music which lost in the hands of people like ARR who are a bad advertisment for Indian music.

Shakalaka Baby is proof that Rahman' brand of pop music, the first time ever for the youth audience does not meet the standards of a wider audience. the entire tune is quite revealing that it comes from a naive composer. look at the rhythms nd tunes brought out the antiquated young band New Kids on the Block, even their songs were hip and sophisticated. does shakalaka baby come any close to the worst of madonna songs like "vogue, papa don't preach and a few other crappy?
Rahman' music and the hindi film songs are proof enuff that Indian audience of today is very young and not exposed to goodd stuff which is hardly there anymore. For this young audience to graduate to MSV, IR, Bhimsen Joshi, Carnatic music and others will take more years than they wish.
Overall, Rahman has got potential but his rhythms and tunes does not hold much water when put to the test - that is a global audience and not the naive youth of India!
I think by now many rahmnan fans are waking up except a few in this forum...

tat shud be "Hmmm, if the abv article is true, what a slap in the face for some people here"
First, we heard the mob giving reasons why BD will never succeed, now we're getting essays on how commercial success does not mean anything.
Sad indeed.

The problem with ARR fans is, they can't question the validity of true music fans points.
"Eppathaan intha ilayaraja visiringa thirintha poraangalo"
"These people are trying hard to breathe while they are slowly drowning. Poor chaps...soon will meet the UTLIMATE TRUTH."
Does these rebuttals have any meaning? "Shakalaka baby" song is a testimony to his third rate composing abilities. He has copied in several languages. We don't compare him with IR. That is an insult to IR. That is like comparing Michaelangelo(IR) with oviyar Ramu(ARR). 'Aracha mavu' specalist ARR. I heard only few lines of couple of songs from BD. I already felt like breaking my computer. I don't dare to listen to those craps anymore. Very very crappy. I don't want to lose my music sense. Songs like "Oh mere sona re", "Kabhie Kabhie", "Mere sapnoki rani",
are more popular and lovely to listen to than these craps of ARR. ARR fans are tasteless stupids. Hope he continues to do this 'aracha mavu' stuff. Don't try to escape by calling all this music haters as IR fans. IR is a composer. ARR is a sound engineer. Deva is the apt person to be compared with ARR. His "shakalaka baby" song is as good as deva's "mala mala marudhamala".

yes...we are all meeting the ulimate truth from 1990.lol....12 years gone, jj, good sound engineer and a musician can you give a technical differnce? --
-- assuming you will give a load
do you think right from Mani to Alw are morons who dont know these things. Why do they go after a man with such huge project?...
(ippo dont escape with mtv music, what the heck is this no one knows. if you dont understand music then call it mtv music, something like our MP's and MLAs words "aniya natu vellai" for everything.)
for people who understand the person "Oviyar" Ramu , Ramu is better dam better than michle angelo., Hope you get the point. You are seeking something virtual and calling arr fans are in their dreams, you have the right to dream about RPH, but arr fans know it, their man has done it...period. It is 12 years now..he is king of music in india. get this into your ostrich head.
Intha arachmavu stuff,
iiiii let us take KASI the movie
play all the songs in a sequence you will not know the differences. Same old crap. a good example of archa and arakapora mavu.
so when you talk miles and loud mouth for movies like KASI where the songs are nothing much rehash of old tunes, I think arr and his fans are better off in everything they do.
Get this also , you are a worth less and shamless fan of IR also. so you dont have to talk for IR here,.now get lost, take your pills and come back sane.

Again and Again i repeat. ARR is not qualified to be compared with IR. Best comparison of him would be with Deva. IR has given the best BGM tamil film has ever seen. So don't even start with that.
ARR music is MTV music!! Roja is the only good movie he has scored so far. I used to like ad music. That's why i may have liked it. When you keep on listening to his ad music in every movies who will not get bored. I was very disappointed with BGM for KM. Maniratnam has lost his musical sense or what? Nayagan, Dhalapathi, Anjali, AgniNatchatiram, Idhayakovil, Idhayathai Thirdathe, Pagal Nilavu, Mouna Raagam had excellent BGMs. Apart from Roja which had reasonably good BGM none of his other movies can boast of that. Don't even say Bombay theme music is great!! ARR sucks in BGM. He will sit and do some mix and match stuff. Sometimes his stupid head will take one week to find the right mix and match. That's why he is terribly slow. One good thing has happened is lots of MDs are getting chance. IR has given way to his sons. HJ, Bharadwaj are equally at the top. Tell me one year ARR has dominated from 1990!!! He can never dominate. He is simply fooling audiences with his trial and error music! He has started copying italy, french, hollywood, mexican movies and music. He also copies his own music in different periods and in different languages. He doesn't have own brain. You are a shameless ARR fanatic. You go to 'kutralam' your paithiyam will theliyum!! hahaha
