raguraam,
That's really good news. I knew that Karthik Raaja will get appreciation from experts. Was ALBUM reviewed in Madhan's Thiraipaarvai on 13th Oct. If so just missed it; my BAD luck :(

This review (in the bottom of the URL below) says KR's BGM is bad, songs are praised anyway !

NagaS,
I think the same sentiment (all though no mention about Songs) were expressed by Hindu I believe (New IE might be).
Generally, some magazines have said that the BGM is ambiguous in places. WIth NOM for KR, I also observed the same think in Grahan, which I saw very recently in TV (Sony or setmax TV ). I noticed, he overplayed BGM in most places, which was very unlikely in a Hindi movie. But, during Grahan times, KR was very new and young, so we cannot be so critical of that.

Are Yaar,
I remember Madhan commented the same for YSR's Nandha BGM !
As far as BGM is concerned, I doubt if any MD (Including the 'big' ones) care thesedays for that - Ofcourse, IR is doing it with over-dedication :-)

I just saw "Album" the movie, K.R. I find the BGM Amazing. He mixes very good as usual. I would never compare with I.R.(A genius in BGM).

Kumudam review is pathetic.
BTW NagaS, kumudam criticised the quick succession of songs but not the quality of song!

What's up with these guys?
I wonder what makes these so-called film journos qualified to write reviews in mainstream magazines such as Kumudam.
When a genuinely nice, refreshing score like ALBUM comes out from a low-profile, non-media savvy MD like Karthik, these guys simply put it down, even branding it as the 'villain' of the movie!!
No wonder we are seeing a spate of MDs with absolutely zero knowledge in music becoming 'hot Music Directors' overnight, with full backing from mainstream media.
I recently read an interview by the up-and-coming playback artiste, Ganga, who lamented about the deterorating taste in music.. Apparently, when she contacted some orchestras and expressed her wish to sing the National-awad winning song 'pAttu Cholli' from Azhagi, they said, "We don't know the song, and have not practised it.. anyway people may not like these melodies"!
KR is going in the right direction. One hopes that he ignores such stupid criticisms and continues to experiment with fresh ideas and not succumb to the pressure in giving trash music, which seems to be the flavor of the day.

i always lik KarthikRaja music hav given some good melodies..but i feel he screew up in interludes a bit..
In my view Kadhal Vanoli has the fantastic start( both harish and sujatha part good) then somehow got dragged out.
Same i thought of Kavithaigal sollava.. i didn like the middle part pallavi or wateve.
Want others openions..
Album is one of the decent albums came in a long while, i belive

i think the songs were not picturized well.... these guys see the movie, do not like the song, so they thrash it..... if that is true, then nothing wrong in it..... for a song to become a good "hit" - picturisation plays an important role now..... good example is his previous album "Dum Dum Dum"..... songs were great, and was given a good lift by picturisation....

there is some standard required for these reviewers, if they want to judge the song by picturisation, then what is the difference between so called these reviewers and ordinary guy. Kumudam could not even understand placement of song is in the hands of director not MD and called MD as villan, junk guys reviewing based on tea, coffee and bottle & oc passes!

I really wouldnt blame every other review for commenting negatively on Album's music. I personally enjoyed the music very much and thats what matters for me. Both Vikatan and Kumudam have come out with glowing reviews for Five Star (the movie, the music and BGM is drubbed, to some extent) and that itself shows the level of maturity in accepting a drastically new theme like that of Five Star. So I think the reviewers there are quite sane. On Kumudam review I think they are quite clearly talking about the placement and number of songs while the BGM takes a severe drubbing. They have not commented on the actual songs per se and thats a mistake on their part. Wonder when Vikatan would come with their review for Album....hope they do talk of the songs.

well said karthik,
liking or not liking a song is entirely upto an individual.
the reviewers should mention any observable influences, arrangement, situation, lyrics etc. of the song and could mention whether they liked it or not, but on the whole should not generalize.
placement of songs in movies, does have an impact, it was observed so, even in the case of '16 december' when some reviewers trashed all the songs because of songs being played almost back to back..

VERY WELL SAID SAREGAREMIX ..KR did a good work in 16 Dcember ..4 excellent songs ..But his BGM in that movie was poor ..Also as per reviews album also has a poor BGM .i Feel he is eperimenting too much in bGM ,which will not help ...

hai once again i heard to album songs, i find the recording is not up to the mark good songs like pillaithamarai, kadhal vanoli and illayaraaja get unnoticed is quiet miserable, in dum dum dum karthik had a better record and abetter audio company backing him,he should have avoided bhavatharani and illayaraaja(only for sentimental reasons because in ddd they were not apart of the package)

Saregamaremix, Kinldy elaborate the project done by KR for Vasantham Central, Singapore Television Channel. He has used local singapore artists, I find thats part of the contract. Tune is very melodius, but singing quality could not live up to the standard. It was very nice seeing KR teaching the singer about the nuances of the tune. Also it featured a short interview with great KR.

To the critics of Album BGM Score,
I did find the score to be a bit loud at some points (comedy scenes...), however it is mostly apt and well done...
