karthik,
I remember listening the song 'gray seal' by elton john, and it sounds ( first few bars) close to the song' enna venum thinnugada doi' ( movie uyardha ullam,
music IR). IR also re-used the tune for valavikkum kadhalaku jai in the movie approva sogothargal. I dont seem to find the audio clip for gray seal. Could you pl
verify this.
thanks e.hari

Re-posting this again..would like your comments pls :
Vande Mataram" title track has a similar melody line to Sting's "If I could ever lose my faith in you" from his Fields of Gold album.
(Incidentally, the video also has a desert backdrop like the "If I could ever"..maybe an inspiration for Bharathbala who shared it with ARR and hence the tune !!)

cosmician,
I listened to both the songs(If I ever lose my faith in you & Vande Mataram)but I couldn't find any similarity in the melody. If you could point out what I'm missing that would be great.

Thanks Trend..
I meant the way ARR sings the "Vande..Mataram" part...it is very similar to the way Sting sings the part...If I ever lose my faith in you........
I had heard that ARR was a fan of Sting...and emulates his style of singing...maybe the reason for the similarity !

....And the guitar jangling that comes after the above-mentioned verses sound similar...right ?

the high of "vandeeeeeee....mataram" in vandemataram is so similar to "if i ever loooooose(similarity here) my faith in you"
the guitar is slightly similar also.... and one more thing "mangalyam thanthunane" in alaipayuthey is the same as vandemataram i guess

Well...Bharath u have hit the nail right on the head...
Is ARR's style of singing in similar to Sting...I'd like a second opinion on that !

"Is ARR's style of singing in similar to Sting"
Though I don't have any complaints with ARR singing, the above statement is an insult to Sting's style of singing.
Except this one instance where this may be intepreted as a slight attempt to impersonate Sting I don't find any similarity between their voices.IMO,ARR doesn't aspire to be a Sting-wannabe.
We should feed ARR a lot of drugs and see if his intensity gets closer to Sting's .Just kidding-)

UV,
Why can't it be like this, 'Swasame', and 'Manju Pole Man' both can be lifted from a common source.

Hi,
ARR , sting, bryan adams, rod stewart have a a increasing gruffnessness-in-voice factor in the order written.
their voice can be described as less sharp and careful amount of hoarseness or gruffness added to make them sound softly masculine ( not oxymorons).
infact if u notice ARR sings in songs that dont require too much melody( like en kaadhale in duet). he sings more rhythm oriented songs. where he can get goo breathing space between swaras.
these qualities r similar to the above 3 mentioned.

en kaadhale in duet was used as an example of a song that ARR cant possibly sing. please dont confuse it as if i said ARR actually sung that song. i know its SPB

I have mentioned in this thread l..long ago that I heard a WCM piece on radio where a trumpet interlude is just like Raasaathi from Thiruda thiruda-I heard it agiin .This time I was able to note down the name.the piece is conversation between wind and water-in ''le mar''.composer is debussy.this is a note by note resmblance.but ARR fans can take a breather from the fact , after the first line, the tune deviates-I think this is more of a chance resemblance rather than a true copy.

Among other absurd entires in the Yet to be confirmed list in the copied songs list (http://newtfmpage.com/copied/), I think we can delete the 6th entry regarding Gentleman's chikku bukku railey mentioned as inspired from a British Airways Commercial!
The British Airways commercial and its variants by Eurythmics member Dave Stewart has the classical Opera piece by name 'Flower Duet' from the opera, Lakme. It was performed by Delibes. You may even confirm it from this!
http://www.british-airways.com/email_filter/online_faq/executive_club.shtml#10
Its got nothing do with chiku bukku railey and is available in loads of places through Napster!

"Putham Pudthu bhoomi" - Car commerical for Volkswagen When SPB visited one of my friends house last year - we had a get together in the friends house. And after the dinner we were all
watching TV and suddenly we get this commercial. SPB literally ran and came into the drawing room and said the same thing. Ofcourse he praised for Rahman's ear and creativity.

All the ads of Volkswagen are available on their site at http://www.vw.com/commercials/?
Could anybody tell me which advt inspired the putham puthu boomi number? I couldnt find any resenblance with any of the advts posted in the site! Anybody in US?
