I read this news some where i dont remember
It seems Deva's brother who was working with IR used to take the musical notes and give to Deva by that afternoon .they had a huge collection of M Notes .
When IR came to Know about this he jsut chucked Deva's Brother out of the troupe.

Fear not Mr.DevaFan...
There are about 50 albums coming out every month,
Deva has a access to all the resources.
He will satisfy you and give you more enjoyable songs...who stop you from listing it.
Finally make the TFM a mere Murugan Xerox Shop with all fancy copiers. Poruma....

Deva may be a copy cat. But he has done some good work in some films. The songs "un uthattora sirippae" (Paanjalankurici) and "Vanna nilavae" (Ninaithaen vandhai) are some good songs. In the same film Paanjalankurichi there is another good song, "Aathoram thoppukkulla". I was wondering I had heard this tune before. Somedays before, I again heard George Michael's "Faith" album. My God. The song from Deva was an exact copy from the album "Faith". That's ok. As long as he gives some good songs and we have not heard of it before or forgot it, it's ok.

No doubt Deva's songs are very enjoyable; But music goes beyond enjoyment, when we start nurturing a sense of appreciation and awe for the creator...and we come to know that our dear 'creator' was only a copy cat, it does definitely hurt.....our own conscience will mock at us for having appreciated the wrong 'creator'.
And with Deva, we end up with this feeling so often....
If you want to appreciate Deva without having any problems....listen to his music and his music only, so that you never discover the original

if my wife cooks delicious potato curry exactly the same way which used to be in a very good restaurant, should I appreciate her for giving me a delicious, enjoyable potato curry, OR should I bash her for copying the restaurant style?

but then, mrs. saappattupriyan wouldn't raid the restaurant kitchen for potato and other ingredients to cook up the delicacy, would she?

Food has a short shelf/stomach life.
Spicing up the potato curry with masalas could enhance or spoil the taste. But if the masalas are purchased from the one and only ganeshram 777 kadai, then it will be viewed or reviewed by all potato fans as a new original curry.

There is a very clear line between 'good' and 'great'. Generally we attribute greatness to persons who are genius gifted with exceptional creativity. Fans of an artiste always like to bestow upon their idols with words like 'genius' and 'great', but in essence, only 'Time' can tell whether they are worthy of such a praise.
We all know that Deva (or Raj-Koti, Anu Malik, et al.) frequently gets his inspiration from the exsisting music and generously draws big chunks of tunes from them. However, we also know that many of his songs are big hits and that he can produce them with considerable ease. So atleast one thing most of us can agree upon is that 'he is talented'.
The main problem here is not the question of talent but whether one should eulogise such artistes with praises such as 'great', 'the best ever', so on and so forth. That my friend is at the discretion of the fan and, as I said earlier, in reality will be decided by 'Time'. Twenty or thirty years from now if Tamil cinema recognizes Deva or any 'new kid on the block' as one of their all-time-greats, so be it. But do you think that will happen? Who knows. As for me, just like somebody pointed out, if I know that the main hobby of an artiste is to copy from something exsisting (even stories, lyrics, etc.) and make a hit, then I will develop a scant regard for him/her. I might like the songs, tap my feet to them, and listen to them once in a while, but I will have a low regard for the artiste.

Deva is no. 1 ??!!!
What on earth would've given rise to this?
- Movie making is such a risky business these days-with frequent strikes and good-for-nothing story line- that producers often have to rely on songs for marketing the completed film. ARR is way too expensive and does not accept more than 3 or 4 assignments per year. IR during 93-95 practically abstained from composing. Can everyone pay a fortune and book ARR? NO...! Here comes our Deva - often referred to as the poorman's IR. Remember, this guy has been in the field since 1990, and hardly gave any hits. Was virtually invisible until '93, when Indhu with its notorious songs came out. Until then whoever booked him did so for economic reasons than for his talents.
- What happened after that? Well... have you heard of multiple inheritance? MSV, IR, ARR all in one MD- of course with all their tunes in memory, that charges less, that has no limit accepting films per year? Needless to say about the poor public - if they continue to hear their favourite old songs in new movies, no other option for them but to appreciate it. Songs naturally become hit ones. Producers are happy - for they get most returns with less money spent. Deva is happy for obvious reasons.
I think now we know why this guy is on top!
We need to appreciate him for one reason: there was a talk about remastering IR's and old songs. Well.. with our Deva already doing it, there's no need for us to worry about it!!!
enuf of the fumes, I guess! Now, waiting for some backfiring!!!
Long live deva!

Just thought of it:
Why not give another title for Deva: Dharumi!
[ Dharumi-yaavadhu release aagaadha oru paattaithaan thannidaiyatu endru, adhuvum neenda yosanaikku piragu koorinaar. Nam thalaivarO, release aana paadalgalaiye thannudaiyathendru koorikolgiraar! Ithai vaithu nija dharumi sandaikku vandhu vidap pOgiraar! :-) ]
Seems like I've been having a heavy secretion of anti-deva hormones! Lemme try to refrain from posting for the rest of the day!

Hello Friends,
I totally agree with most of your ideas in one or other way. There is no doubt that Deva has been managing to give hits constantly in the last 2 or 3 years with a little challenge from ARR/IR. There is also no doubt that some of his songs are very good to listen over and over. (as one of our friends wrote, "vanna nilave from Ninaithen Vandai". But at the same time, there is another song, "Ennavale," from the same movie, which was copied from one Telugu movie.
(It is also true that one of Deva's brothers was working in IR's troupe - oh, ya, u guessed how Deva got raised to this level)
So, what I want to tell is, though, Deva gives good hits, I can't give him a full credit and hence can't consider him as no.1 in a real way though currently it appears that he is.

Deva is no. 1 in cutting and Pasting technology. IR can not even fight in that category, forget swapping the position. If he had started
software company, he would have beaten Em.Es. long time back.
No doubt about the good songs(to hear) he(dEva) comes up with. But he sothapifies by copying the interludes from 2-3 old songs. If u listen to one dEvA's song u are remembered 3 other good old songs and people will start thinking about the old songs. There only he is making mistake. He should add more masala and change the vessel too. But
when compared other MDs and when compared to his songs in yesteryears he has improved a lot.
dEvA-kku orE oru request. please Thayavu seidhu pAdAdheenga. Sirichu sirichu vayiru valikkudhu. Music mattum pOdunga.
