C.R.Madhusudhan,
Your story may be 50% true.
If KB was the reason for Mani to desert IR, were Bombay, Dilse, Thiruda Thiruda etc up to Aidha ezhuthu all produced by KB ?? The fact was both of them had conflict with IR in their own ways..

Raja,
KB was the reason behind Roja doesn't mean that KB prevented MR from accessing IR in future. Don't comprehend it in that sense.
May be Mani didn't turn back as Roja was a run-way success and ARR was somebody introduced by him.
Did you know that MR approached IR for Iruvar which was turned down by IR!!
Also, Mani hasn't bashed IR till date. In fact he told the press how amazing IR sat for his 600th movie "Dalapathi" as if he were doing his 1st.

>>>Balachandar himself was doing all his films using Maragadha Mani at that time (all flops).
Wrong...
vaname ellai..was a roaring success..ran for 1 year...
Azhagan was a moderate success.
MR did not approach IR any time after roja...ALl the news that appear in mags are all cooked up ones and they appear every time MR starts making music.
Even for Iruvan MR-ARR combo was decide long before...no change...its just that the enthusiast in mags wrote that mani approached IR...
Did any statement from IR or mani end come in this regard? No.

zz,
I don't have insider knowledge of all this KB-IR,MR-IR clashes but it's not true that everytime MR starts a movie, there is speculation about who will do the music. It was only about Iruvar that there was news everywhere about IR being approached. As for statements in this regard, both IR and MR hardly talk to the media&as Madhusudan pointed out, even now in the occasional interviews that MR gives,he has only praise for IR.

Folks, to my knowledge Vaanamae Ellai was a flop. I don't think it reached even 75 days in any theatre inside TN. Let me confirm this with reliable sources! Azhagan was an utter flop ... I am confident about that.
As far as Mani's (praise for) speech on IR goes ... you can find it on the internet.

Oh God...it was a resounding success..remember , its songs were all over the place.

only 2 songs were hits (kambangaadu & sogam ini illai..)
you can't claim that a movie was a roaring success based on songs ... idhaya koil was not a hit despite it's songs were mega hits...

No yaar...The film was a big success and got some 50 odd marks in AV...I remeber that very well...Kavithalaya...had one hit after other in the form of VE, Annamalai etc.
Balachander was riding high.
Okay..what about these songs
1. kamban engu ponana,
2. Nadodi mannargale etc.

Is vaname ellai the movie where 5 youngsters decide to commit suicide after 100 days? if yes, i think it was an average hit, songs were ok too.

vaname ellai was NOT a roaring success.
he was not a flop too. two songs were success, as C.R. Madhusudhan said. however the then new Sun TV and DD tried to popularise that movie because it had 'karuththu'.

You are wrong. Yeah, Mani had confirmed that news in one of his interviews. Also, Karthik Raja confirmed it in one of his interviews. Of course, you can't expect IR to talk about this petty thing.

--- Check That...I am a member of karthik's group and have read the discussion that was going on that time...
I read the synopsis of that film, looks like the story is different from KK. The only thing that resembles is Mark Walberg's
possessive attitude. But need to see the film to conclude anything.. I hope you would have seen it, did SR lift any scenes
from it? I would say that Guna will come close to KK. At the 175th day celebration function of KK, Kamal said that he should
have tried the same climax as in KK then Guna might have been a hit.
--- True....idhu oru phillosophy...now If you believe that then you and I don't have to fight....tell me will you like that?
This thread is not for MDs who copies. We are talking about film directors, and I still stand by my opinion. Mani has copied
scenes for his earlier movies. I don't think he deserves this much attention that the media gives out.
--- I still maintain that you dislike or like of anybosy is driven by your hatred against ARR...
Nope, Thundu Bhai has nothing to do with my opinion about Mani. Even if he goes out for a different MD (HJ/YSR/mr. X), my
opinion will be the same..
C.R.Mathusudhan:
the rift between Mani and IR: It all started at the function of PPA and IR and KB parted their ways. Then there was a campaign movie (against alcoholics) produced by Tamilnadu govtment. GV was looking after production side and was in charge to get it done. He asked IR to compose the music and he agreed. The opening ceremony happened in Prasad Studios. Remember Ir was working in that studio full time. JJ was the CM at that time. She was present at the function and IR was trying his way to get into the studio by his car. But the police denied him access and asked him to walk and told him that only CM was allowed inside with her vehicle due to security precaution. IR was shocked and went back to his home. GV was waiting and waiting for IR and atlast he heard the news. So immediately he called MSV over the phone and requested to help him out. In that function, GV said "there are some MDs who are so arrogant blah blah.." (new mds should be introduced or somethig like that). GV was a big guy at that time and I assume he should have talked to Mani to go for a new MD. Also immediately after that incident IR switched his studio to AVM for some time. Thinks did not go good and again he went back to Prasad.
After PPA, KB couldn't give a massive hit like PPA. He brought in Maragadhamani to TFM and tried 2 or 3 attempts but nothing was like PPA. During that period, KB was into producing films with outsiders. So he approached Mani for a film. Mani had to go for a new MD for that film. He asked Mahesh to do it with one condition, he should come to film industry full time. But Mahesh was working in a company and did his jingles part time. He was sure that he would not quit his job and would do the score part time only. Then Mani opted out and joined his hands with thundu bhai. Vasanth who worked with IR for keladi kanmani went to Maragathamani (nee pathi naan pathi) because of KB (the producer) too. KB tried his luck with thundu bhai and again opted out for Maragathamani (kalki).
Iruvar: Mani indeed wanted to have IR for his Iruvar but IR was not interested to work him anymore. This was told by Karthink Raja in an interview. I think it came out in Filmfare, if you do a search, you might find it on the web.

"Police denied him access and asked him to walk and told him that only CM was allowed inside with her vehicle due to security precaution. IR was shocked and went back to his home."
What is there to shock? It is for CM's security and every citizen is bound to obey that. With all respect for the great composer, I say this is a clear cut example of IR's ego.
Ofcourse IR fans wud have an interesting explanation for this incident.

Include the above line in your message too. Yes, IR has ego and it is a well known fact. is this news to you or what? You looked like you were surprised! He was/is/will be in a position to choose withwhom he wants to work. Be it CM or MR, he has done it. It is as simple as that.

It was the time when all thru' Madras, common peole were subject to the same type of arrongance by Jayalalitha. Some may call it ego, but I call it guts that IR chose to stand up to such arrogance even if it had cost him in the long run.
But IR has done it consistently. His enemity with Bharati Raja was because BR expected IR to bounce other movies signed before BR's movie and score music as a priority. IR has always stood on his principles and resisted that.
Listen if regaining his market was his primary concern, IR would have compromised on so may things like working with MR for Iruvar or working with Vairamuthu. To me sticking by his principles with supreme confidence in his talents deserves more admiration and respect than hyped up, self-created publicity about the bogus claims of having invented new sounds and bogus humility.
