The reception to Moulin Rouge could be the reason behind Miramax's interest in making BD as a movie. Perhaps with more popular mainstream stars and aggressive marketing, it may well become a success. That should propel ARR in a big way in Hollywood.
BTW, I heard that Shakar-Ehsan-Loy are debuting in the Hollywood film based on a similar theme (of Bombay film industry) called Marigold!

"BYE!!"
This one word is the best thing u've said in a long time fliflo. Good bye. Vanakkam. Sendru Vaarungal... or Varaatheergal if u prefer.
Peter Pan, there is only talk now. But from wat I've heard of BD's shaky storyline, it is worth wondering if it'll make a good movie..unless they modify or boost the storyline to suit a movie. Anyways, it's all only in the talk stages looks like. Hopefully one of these shud materialise.

Did u notice these things??
"Role Playing" and variety:
1. An accompaniment which is very commonly done by plucking the guitar is taken up by drums (in 1st interlude of Pyaara sa Gaon, Zubeidaa, the drums accompany the flute).
2. A typical bass guitar accompaniment is taken up by drums (in Nalai Ulagam, LoveBirds for the pallavi).
3. A piano style accompaniment is taken by some synth sound (in Nenthukutten, Star when charanam is sung).
4. A synth instrument imitates the flute in (Oru thulli, ESK, 2nd interlude and Roja Roaj, KD 1st interlude). The synth instrument is played first followed by the flute, notice the similarity in playing and difference in the sound.
5. WHen the string quartet in exchanged for something like a flute-quartet to produce a typical indian melody in Ennavale, Kadhalan. Notice that u hear a bass flute, a mid range flute and a high pitched flute.
6.Bass lines are used more as part of rhythm rather than as actual "bass lines" (Dil Se Re, Vaazhkaiyil aayiram (Padayappa), Humma Humma, Take it easy, Intro of Nenthukitten etc..). (By actual bass lines i mean bass scores in songs like Kadhal Sadugudu, Ninnu kori varanam, Poove Sempoove, Putham pudhu boomi, Kandukonden Kandukonden etc..)
7. Use of two instruments together for different tone color (Veena and Piano together in Nahin Saamne, Netru Ilaadha maadham etc, Female voice and wind instruments as in En Uyire, Kadhal Rojave, Margazhi (sangamam), Smayiyaay 1st interlude, Slap bass and drums in Thee Thee (Thiruda), voices in different octaves as in Usilambatti 2nd interlude, Kannodu Kaanbathellam 2nd pallavi. Karthi Raja made extensive use of the last technique to very good effect in most of the songs in Dum DUm DUm).
8.Different bass lines for repeated melodies (Snehithane, Konjum Mainakale, Kandukonden Kandukonden etc..)
Add on...

Kiru, thanks for the article. (btw, Kiru isnt ur real name, is it?)... Will it be possible for u to give us examples of songs for ur observations?
For example, when u say "AR Rahman's songs do not necessarily follow the traditional pallava-charanam-pallavi-charanam-pallavi structure.", will it be possible for u to cite examples of such ARR songs, etc.
Sam, interesting to note u have given some ir songs as examples for some of the cases u have pointed out.
It'll be great if u can develop ur post further. If u dont have time, we can take watever u've written, edit it and add it onto our site & u can always come back & add on later when u have the time.
OISG, it's good to be part of a great constellation, aint it. :)

Are Yaar,
wat happened? Didnt u get the one i sent today, magix', cosmo's "analyze this" etc? I know u have been included in the mailing list for these msgs.
Let me know if u never got any of this.

btw AY, pls send me an email instead..looking fwd to ur write-up.
And coming back to Sam's article, I thought it wud be interesting if u cud compare & contrast, in more depth, the difference btwn ARR's styles to older MDs like IR...not comparing in order to decide which is "better" or "worse", simply comparing to appreciate the differences. I think Sam sort of brushed past it wit the right attitude...I was hoping someone cud elaborate further/do a compilation like kiru's. U can send it in to the email abv.
