It's a great song. I never heard this song until I watched sapthawarangaL programme. Then after I was looking for this song, and I could not find it in anystore :(
the original version of 'sevaanam chinna peN' was in MalayaaLam, sung by KJY and Sujatha. That was far better than the tamil version.

Very true T. IMO, KSC has not sung any good song after 'KKKK'. Thanks for the correction on SH.
I think that song was for Senthil and Kovai saraLa(not sure though)
Marsian, i thought the original sevvanam was sung by KSC and KJY

An unconfirmed source told me that Radhika sings this song for Ajith after her misconceptions are cleared.
Sounds like 'thendrale thendrale' (kaadhal desam), another lullaby, was kind of rehash of this.
Ramki: Keerthana was Ajith's jodi. As for KSC, I liked 'ithu thanaa' (saamy). Good lyrics by thaamarai. Traces of 'enge enadhu kavidhai' were there :)), but this one was a happier Sindhu bairavi.

the best part abt azhagu nilavu IMO is that ARR has used something like 6 or 7 tracks only...yet the melody is so good.
and i thought the lyrics was by VM!!

Song: Sri gananadham
Film: isaikku oru kovil
Singers: Vani jairam, Poornachandar
MD: KVMahadevan
This is a thyagaraja keerthana wonderfully sung by Vani from dubbed film 'isaikku oru kovil'('shruthilayalu' in telugu). Film had Dr Rajsekar and Sumalatha in the lead. KViswanath was the director.
Other good songs 'thirunaaLum varumo swami'(PS,SPB), 'endrume nalla raasi'

More info on this song
Another Senior Vidwan of both violin and vocal is Sri K Poornachander. He also sung in a few telugu movies. He learnt vocal from BMK and Violin from Lalgudi (i think). I heard him accompany Dr. KJY in Hyd once (1999) and he was great. He also sung a few vocal conerts of which I heard great reviews but wasnt fortunate enough to attend.
Spoke to him over phone a few times though and he was very unassuming, down to earth and friendly. You can listen to his voice in the movies Sruthilayalu, where he sang Sri Gananadham Bhajamyaham in Kanakangi, and Alludugaru where he sang Angumomu in Abheri with KJY as a duet. He also sang in a few Malayalam movies, in which he sang extempore hindustani in a jugalbandi with KJY, where the character to which KJY lent voice, defeats the hindustani rival in a competition.

I remember reading in The Hindu that this tyagaraja keerthana was introduced by KJY himself. (I think there's some controversy as to whether this is really by Tyagaraja. It sounds like a Dikshitar kriti, but has Tyagaraja muthirai.) It's set in the rare raga Kanakangi, which is also considered difficult. KJY said in an interview that he practised for about 6 years before singing it in a concert (with alapana, swaram, etc). VJ has sung it quite well in this song.
The only TFM song in this raga is the heart-rending number 'Mogam ennum theeyil' (sindhu bairavi).

Ramki, do you have any other songs from 'isaikku oru koyil'? I just love the 'endrume nalla raasi' SPB,VJ duet (more so, the telugu version 'inni raasula', which is on the net). Incidentally, this movie has a rare 'graha bedham' song sung by SPS. I vaguely remember that, in the movie, this song fetches accolades for the boy in the climax.

Song: Koovura kuyilu

Lyrics: kasthuri Raja?
Music: Deva
-'solaiyamma' had 2 good songs by Deva. Today's pick and 'thaavira barani'. When i first listened to the song on radio, i thought it was by IR.
Solaiyamma had Sukanya and Rahul(?) in the lead. I think it their second film after pudhunellu pudhu naathu.

Lyrics: Jupiter Chinnadurai

This pick is ultimate rare. I have no idea about the actors or the director of this film. Chinnadurai's lyrics are powerful and moving at the same time(one time wonder?). KJY and SJ do full justice to them.
