  vengkAyam: i don't know how long you are here, but i have been following things from the days when ramesh mahAdhEvan used to write his funny stories in sct. imnvho, if you take the total venom poured on ir and arr, the ir venom outshines arr venom left right and center. (ithulayum ir wins :-) ). of course, you could blame my observation on my "devotion" to ir. take it easy. everything is personal. :-))

  Opinion:
  
  I don't think we all know whether IR Devotion or ARR devotion is greater. My opinion is just opposite to yours like hihi pointed out.. that ir venom outshines arrvenom...That's the whole point...ARR fans want to spit their venom out in every thread every day because they feel that they are outnumbered by IR fans...Unless, anyone is keeping count such characterizations are just ignorant and results in what these forums have turned to these days.

  hihi ..a quick question guy..I have a theory..that percussion could be used for rhythm/timing and/or thalam/accent. IR always uses this for rhythm+thalam. This is how other traditional MDs use it as well (including Hindiwallahs..we are all indian after all right :). Contrast, this with western pop or even in some songs of our own MDs. I do see that in classic rock they use it that (indian) way and this is one of the reasons IR uses this idiom to do catchy/popular #s (done a lot). Among our MDs, L Vaidyanathan used this exclusively in EzhAvathu manithan.

  A quick check in the archives (go to "older topics") shows that the discussions there are from early 1997. I don't know if there were discussions prior to that.
  
  On another note, found something interesting about the "good-old-days." :)
  
  How matured do you think are the people sending messages to the forum when it comes to having a unbiased, intelligent and relevant discussion?
  Most of the discussed matters I think makes statements which are uncalled for. Is this an adult discussion form or ....

  Folks...saw Devan last night... hmmm good effort by ArunPandian in terms of story visibility and essence. Vijayakanth (intro approx. 1hr after the beginning) & Karthik (appear as a criminal lawyer) both have performed very well, esp. Karthik with unusual mixture of humor and seriouness. I think this is the 1st time he has appeared in a scene with his father's pic. in the b/ground. ArunP has a lot to offer in giving some suspense or thrilling scene's. This IR have (in his most outstanding way so far) rendered much in his BGM esp. the first few scenes and have to mention the cat's noise in echoing mode. Listen his style in introducing ArunP in the title card...a suspense like BGM with subtle heroic intro. music (which Deva used to produced for Rajni's intro in his movies)...wow...simply superb. Songs were only secondary to this kind of movie but IR have rendered some two sentimental songs for one which resembnles one 80's tune. Last songs have a lot to do with Arabian tune.

  I was in India last week and bought the audio of Ivan. To be honest the first shop I went to did not even know, that the movie audio was released. Then I managed to get one ...... here are my few cents.
  
  * Excellent, un-compromised redention by Sudha
  * Enna enna seivai ...... lovely song. Wish IR gave a filmi type orchestra to this song.
  * Lovely lyrics by Vaali for the same song.
  * Sudha's song will go well with the critics, esp "kannan nee enakku"
  * The pick of the album would be "appadi parkaradhu vendaam". Nice initial mirudangam beat patterns. The songs gets spoilt in the middle because of the synth patterns.
  * "Manidhanai mirugamai ..." is a high pitched and a great charanam. Its got a nice arrangement.
  * Overall, album has some fresh movements/arrangements. Tabla is missing.
  * I would give 75% ......
