KS Chitra or Kavita Krishnamurthy: who is better?

  Each to his own opinions of course, but this comparison makes no sense. KSC is an excellent singer in the South.( Go to Musicindiaonline -> Carnatic -> KSC. ) KSC has done very well in Sindhubhairavi and Bombay and in the many devotional albums she has done (http://chithra.com)
  
  
  Kavita too is a fabulous performer. I personally regard her much better than VJ for hindi songs. Kavita sounds very native in Hindi. Also she is a superlative taanbaaz. She has done very well in films like Sir sangam,bhairavi and hum dil de chuke sanam in classical numbers. But due to the cheap tastes of most people up north nowadays, these films sank without a trace. She has sung many classical numbers for the Lok seva sanchar parishad and even in TV Serials, and done albums of ghazals, bhajans. She has also done very well in her ARR songs (like in Pukar) and in films like Khamoshi,1942 Love Story.
  
  Those of u who watch DD listen to Kavita sing "Baje sargam har taraf se". Its a treat.
  
  KS CHITRA has scaled similar heights in the South. Those Carnatic based songs of hers put up on MIO are fascinating. KSC has 5 National awards I think.
  
  KSC and KK are both excellent in their own fields - so what are we comparing. Are we trying to argue that Pele is better than Sampras???

  isn't this song from the priyadarshan film 'kaalapani'? i only know that the name of this film in malayalam was 'kaalapani'...was it in tamil 'SiRaichchaalai'?
  
  and to the topic of this thread:
  chitra is actually a great singer...this i know...so many songs i've heard from her in malayalam...she has a really 'perfect' voice IMO...don't have more words to comment her greatness...
  kavitha krishnamurthy....hmm...haven't heard so many songs of her...so can't comment...but she does have a good voice...that's for sure i think...

  chitra is much better. please people, do u have any good taste? chitra has the voice of a queen, duh! my dad loves her songs! if u would listen to the same casette of songs each day, u totally would know better. my dad has alot more casettes. lots of them have chitra in it. i like her.

  Come on,we are not trying to compare Pele and Sampras. This is not football and tennis. They are both singers. And I just cannot beleive that a comparison between KSC and KK has come up in the first place. KSC is a genius. KK is good though but will not be compared to the diversity and talent of KSC.

  yes ,I do agree with you-that one word is sufficient and explains everything. Chithra is a musical genius and she is beyond comparison among her contemporaries.

  Definitely comparable in this case!...well in one case - bombay - uyire uyire and tu hi re
  
  I can't understand much tamil or hindi, so assessing only the singing in both songs, i definitely prefer uyire to tu hi re cuz of chitra.

  chears people. kk is simply the best no questions asked. as some one put it, kk is like wine. chitra is awesome too aye. but kk is unique. alka is also good but can easiily be compared with her vioce with other singers. kks song touches the souls, the heart. the rest sing for lip service. oonly kk does the heart mind and soul thing. i dont think this matter. niether do i believe this matter. the fact of the matter is that i KNOW kk is the best

  hey people. i totally belive what bobby is sayin. i think we all need time out to listen to the voice of kavitaji. she is perfect , aye. when i listen to her, it affects my heart.i mean positively. i recommend all with heart problems to listen to the soothing voice of the one and only kavitaji.

  have you guys listened to kavitha's title song in ne of the tamil serial (sun TV) called "AlaigaL". It is horrible and no wonder why the response from many guys saying "Chitra is better".

  Chithra has the sweetest voice i've heard.. i would say that in some songs ( like "kannalaney" and "malargaley" from ARR .. and "kuzhal oodhum kannan", "sindhu bhairavi" and a whole lot of songs from IR) her voice is sweeter than the melody queens susheela & lata mangeshkar !
  
  But kavitha belongs to a different range.. she can sing diff. type of songs from ghazals to hindustani to "theru koothu" songs ! She belongs to the S Janaki/ Asha Bhonsle category ( though they both are way above her)
  
  I would say both of them are really good !!
  ( Solomon pappaiya maadhiri, kadaisiya rendume nalla irukku.. rendumey venumnu mudichittaen .. paatheengala ?? )

  1) one is Gangai karai thotam from Vaanambadi Did U think kaneer will start flowing?
  2)Kuzhanthayum deivam could she get the sweet melody of Ps
  3) Anbil malarthana Roja

  4)A very simple song like Muthu mani maalai U should listen in Telugu Chitra has rendered it.then U will understand .Please this is limited to Chitra and Kavitha krishna moorthy.
  PS is above all these .

  Suseela is great, but Chithra is equally great or even greater.
  Do not compare just based on one or two songs. In the same way ,put Suseela in Chihra's shoes. If Suseeala was made to sing the sindhubhairavi national award song of chithra or even the other national award winner" MANAMADHURAI", she would not have been able to perform with the level of class chithra performed.Every artist has his or her own class. The adaptability and style varies from artist to artist.

  Dont judge anyone by hearing few songs. From your mails we can understand how much of exposure you have on PS songs. First listen her songs without bias and then comment.
  If it goes like this... you will start compare PS with minmini... sindhu, etc...
  If you dont know her acheivements, pl. keep quiet. What is the necesscity of writing about her in this page..? Comparison is with Kavitha .. Just by projecting her to PS level, she wont reach that level... She has to grow , survive for another 30 years ...then you compare.
  Voice clarity and sweetness... no one in the southern Industry can defeat PS. This is a known fact.
  I can makeout why are you projecting KSC like this? remove the language barrier from your mind and listen songs with open mind.
  
  PS and KSC sang few songs together. You can understand the diff.

  Yes I agree - PSs voice is sweet like honey...I remember one episode of TVS Sa Re Ga Ma shot in Bangalore. the judges were P Susheela and Hindi bhajan singer Anup Jalota. He was saying this about PS: "Had it not been for PS, India would have missed a glorious artist. I forget that I am listening to a song in a language I dont understand, when I listen to PS...the sweetness of her voice is so much".
  
  
  However it goes to say also, that KSC and KK are great singers in their own right. Their voice has a different texture which is unique and lovely. You cannot get the same taste in curd-rice which you get in mango-juice. :)
  I like both KSC and KK. In fact, I like KSC to a certain extent even in Hindi.....KSC in Mallu is really divine, esp. with Ravindran

  PS has sung naan oru sindhu in Telugu if possible try the link at Musicindia online.
  I still maintain my feelings tha tChitra is a good singer in her own way, the thing is please plase dont bring Ps here.
  How many song shave U really heard of Ps to get to such a conclusion.
  I am not boasting or something I have heard PS,SJ, VJ ,chitra sing in all four languages(Telugu,Tamil,Malayalam and Kannada).
  In ceylon Radio, the announcer rated Ps as anrum enrum yenrum jollipavar!!!!
  No one can beat her.
  I have heard thousands of songs sung by Ps.
  I still maintain that in the current context because of age or some other reason Ps is not singing , but once she starts again then you will understand the difference.
  All I ned to know from you is has Chitra pronounced Tamil as Tamil?Please be reasonable in your answer.
