Karthik Raja entered in to film world some expectation when ARR has entered with Roja. Karthik composed two Rajini songs Pandianin Rajyathil and Oru Mina Mina (Ulzhaipali Rajini moive).
He gave hits like Ullasam, but most of the songs were copies songs (i forgot the site name that was mentioned in Antha Vikatan magazine). He got chance for one Kamal Hassan film also.
But YSR from the begining enjoying success (not like ARR). But able to maintain his status in the Music Industy. Respectable Audio sales.
What do you think ?

Have you listened to michael jacksons album carefully, you will hear all of KR's songs in them. YSR's songs however cannot be found in other songs. YSR uses his talent and creativity to compose songs. KR relies on the guidance of his father and his fathers ideas for his songs. IR does not interfere in YSR's work, but for KR, he gives a lot of advice.
Is it not odd that IR has given KR ample opportunity to work with him, even now, but has not give YSR even a single chance!

Sam ,
I hope you are the cousin of YSR ,KR .It seems so .Based on the statement you have given !!!
Have you ever met KR or YSR and were them during their compositions ????Please make statements which can be verified and analysed for some truth

YSR is certainly not a match for KR although he is very talented in my opinion. YSR is pretty bad in song orchestration and terrible in BGM. Did anyone see Album? I loved the songs and the BGM. Excellent film to go with family but what happened? Flopped at box office. Same with KR. He has not yet broken the jinx. Also cine field is sentimental. One flop will put people away. Although DDD is a hit movie, KR did not seem to get movies as his brother seemed to get.

STS ,
I don't think YSR is bad in BGM...If u had seen AprilMathathil i think would not have said so ..In some scenes in which YSR has done brilliant work ........
Ofcourse KR had excelllent BGM's in Naam Iruvar ,ULLAsam ,DUMM DUMM DUMM

I think the difference between YSR and Karthick Raja is that YSR comes out with tunes that stays in your heart. E.g., Munpanniyaa(Nandhaa), EnAnbeEnAnbe (Mounam Paesiyadhe)
I can't think of one song from Karthick Raaja which compares to these great songs. Maybe thats the difference.
Any opinions?

KR's Kaadal vaanoli is a melodious number , starting with Karaharapriya and moving to GowriManohari from Album.

I must admit that I had no idea YSR and KR were sons of Ilayaraja (though in retrospect that seems crazy i couldn't put 2 & 2 together). KR's Dumm Dumm Dumm was the first album I listened to and I thought it was fabulous - especially "Ragasiyamai" and "Un Perai". I also listened to Album's songs recently and was quite impressed by KR's music. My comment on BGMs in general is that they suck in indian movies regardless of who, following a predictable pattern. As for YSR's music, I have really not listened to them and I am looking forward to them based on some of your suggestions.

Shankar ,
Are u very sure that the BGM is bad in all the INDIAN movies??I can show u hundreds of movies where the BGM music was great .Both IR and ARR ( and many others ) have good BGMs
DOn't ever compare ourselves with HOLLYWOOD movies .They don't have a Human element in their stories though their techie things and acting are excellent !!
Mere use of Western classical instruments does not mean that the film's BGM is good .
In HOLLYWOOD not all the movies have good BGM ,they of course use orchestras which is big advantage .
Take for instance TITANIC ,u can see the similarity with BRAVE HEART in some places as far as BGM is consdered .( i think Both were scored by the same composers)
BGM is not about predicting the music .It is about how exactly the music fits in !!!!!

I am really surprised!! In my opinon YSR does not have any talent - He does not have one big hit album.
KR has Ullasam, Kadhala Kadhala, Naam Iruvar Namakkiruvar, DDD, Album. KR has distinctive style. YSR does not have any style. He may be copying few songs - but does not mean he is not talented - copying right is also a talent. Deva copied IR and ARR - he was good.
I am sure KR will come back some day with a big hits and YSR will fade away.

If you look at the genius like Iliyaraja, ARR, Michael jackson they were not trained by any one. IR didn't have any guru to learn music.Same thing for for ARR.His father was a MD.But he never learned any thing from his father.
The music should come on their own from their heart.
Simple answer is KR was trained well with his father IR and Tritiny college and also some vidwan.
But YSR is not.He never worked with his father like KR and did not learn from any one.He is making on his own.
This is the reason for the success of YSR.

Ilaayraaja learnt western classical from Mr.Dhanraj .
He learnt carnatic from Mr.L.Subramaniam's father ...

mythila - Kadhal Vaanoli is indeed gr8. However, it starts in Reethigowlai and then goes to Gowrimanohari, with somw Keeravani incidentals!

Anita, u may be right as I don't know anything about swaras. I just identify raagas by recognizing patterns like a layman. I sometimes get confused between Karaharapriya and Reethigowlai as it has happened in another YSR song 'Churidhaar anindu vanda sorgame'

Ok.They may have learned music from some one.But that was not a source while composing on their own.IR was having the talent of composing village type song which is not possible for Mr.Dhanraj and Mr.L.Subramaniam's father.
ARR has his own style of mixing the western.
YSR just started his carrier.
No one can teach how to compose the music. It should come from their own.

Sriram is right. Today one composer who has extraordinary talent it is KR and he has a very intellectual approach to music without being smart or clever. look at his tunes such as: Manickam, NINI, KK way too ahead for someone his age. Songs like Saravan Bhava, Kattan Ponnu, Rakkamma Rakkamma, Hello Mr. Kadhala (somethng was really not right about this song despite being special in itself) that one duet in NINI by Lysa Lysa or something. Anjala Anjala - foottappers with some personality in the songs. KR has got the class of MJ, musical personality (genius) of IR and melody talent of Salil Chowdhry. What is missing is the MSV part in him. That is it friends. YSR has a long way to go, though he is trying hard.

I think KR is way ahead of his compostions compared to YSR, as said by many, he has his own unique style. I used to like YSR he has become very repitative also more recently he is churning out songs for probably every other tamil film, with utmost one or 2 songs at the best in each film with no consistency.
For all those who listen to YSR but have not paid attention to KR, please listen to his recent " Album" movie, extremely impressive and different.
I happened to watch the 300th Saptaswarangal program on SUN TV in last few weeks, with KR as the judge, he looks like a very shy person and resembled IR even while answering some questions by the irritatating ( most of the times) AV Ramanan (the host).
I remember reading somewhere that KR was the one who spotted "Shreya Gho(Ya)sal" the new talent, when he was the judge for one of " saregama" program

If anything, I think he looks good on screen.
