The aim of this thread is to collect, at one place, interesting
stories, anecdotes, tit-bits etc, related to TFM. A newcomer to
the forum will find this collection very interesting to read. For
example, Ramki mentioned the following story in another thread:

I read this in a magazine(Kungumam/Saavi) 8/10 years back. Since I dont remember the exact words, I am explaining it in my own words.

MGR-udaya music taste anaivarum arindhathe..Adhe madhiri song picturisationil avar kattiya aarvamum abaram. Padam peyar gnabagamilai. Padal: Pesuvadhu kiliya illai pennarasi mozhiya. Padal started with beats.Director seitha picturisation pidikkamal MGR improvise panninaar. MGR satru odi vandhu car-in mel yeri, pakkathil irukkum Saroja devi thalaiyai tap pannuvadhu pol padamakkapattadhu..

On tamil new year's day on Sun TV there was an interesting program where vairamuthu discussed TFM, about censors, how many songs had to be reshot, redubbed due to politics. An interesting point was from the film alaigal ooivadhillai, where initially the hero and heroine were from different religious communities and VM had written the song where he refers to the mosque and temple, instead of the church and temple. He talked about kannukku mai azhagu and how many objected to kavidhaikku poi azhagu. I am not able to recollect all the songs he discussed. One thing I liked was his diction and use of words. I wonder how many TFMers watched this show.

I also watched the programme. The alaigal oyvathillai song he talked about was "aayiram thaamarai mottokkale". The lines:

ingu rendu jaathi malligai
thottukkolla kaaman pandigai
koyilil kaathal *thozhugai*

His justification was for the word "thozhugai".

I'll more about this programme when I find time.

the tv interview showed one facet of vairamuthu that not many would be familiar. his capability to sing songs with sruthi and ragam.

but what was surprising was that VM was talking as if in a formal note rather than one-to-one with the audience. i felt that he was very rigid in his posture and choice of words. i hope to see somebody talk in a one-one mode sometime on tv

I had seen one of these program, few years back TFM history, when VM-Raja were dominant. VM said about the song Kaalai Thendral paadivarum Raagam.
He talked about the catchy tunes that Raja created. Few years after, he had an Interview with one of cine magazine, 'CINEMA EXPRESS'.
One of the question was why AR take longer to compose music compared Raja. He could have omitted this question, but his answer was.
'Raja is nilakari(carbon). It can be found easily, but AR is diamond. You have wait longer to find one.' As a poet who was one time friend with Raja, he should not have told this in an interview. After that, it doesn't matter what he talks whether It's his success with AR or his ability to write many chinna chinna aasai version.

One interesting story I heard from this VM interview on Tamil New Year Day is:

HI All,
I just came across this group today, while
I am enjoying all your knowledge and enthu,
there seems to be tons of abbreviations, most
of which I am able to figure out (IR, ARR, TFM
etc.) but what is DF?

kavignar kannadAsan was driving back to his house after writing the song Odam nadhiyinilE oruthi mattum karayinilE (film:???). The song was running in his mind and suddenly something struck and he asked the driver to drive back to the recording theatre. His assistant asked what happenned?. Kavignar said I want to change the lyrics to Odam nadhi vazhiyE oruthi mattum vidhi vazhiyE it will be better that way...
But unfortunately when they reached the recording theatre, the song was getting recorded, sung by seerkazhi.
