where is ARR going to be in the next 10 years, w.r.t to TFM
I personally think he is going to be very selective in choosing his movies in the future - stuff which is kind of challenging and that which has more scope for creativity and experimentation.
Also, he will make a comeback in Telugu (with him signing three movies in Telugu!!) although I think he will still dominate the TFM/HFM scene. Once he understands the telugu nativity (like how IR did in the 80s and early 90s) more than he does now, he will surely be a winner in TeFM. I think he understands the nativity difference between TFM and HFM perfectly and gives music that suits the local tastes.
For some reason his previous offerings, Super police and Gangmaster, were not hits. Two songs "Pakka gentleman" and "Hello hello premalekha" from these movies are some of my alltime ARR favorites.
Now, I am waiting for rajaG's write-up on the two telugu movies.

Telugu movies are junk movies .. 6 dappanguthu dances, 6 stupid fights... Anyone cares about Telugu field Kaumudi? They are the worst movie field in India.

There are junk movies in every language, including Tamil. I can show you "n" junk movies in Tamil which make no sense at all to me. That is not to defend the pathetic state in which Telugu cinema is in now. I am totally aware of it. But there were/are some rare gems in between once in a while with good storyline, music and acting.
Before generalizing that Telugu movies are junk, maybe you should think about some introspection.

Once he understands the telugu nativity (like how IR did in the 80s and early 90s)
Can you please write more about IRs telugu nativity? I never observed any difference between his telugu and tamil songs. sippikUl muthu or salangai oli or sithara sounded very much tamil to my ears.
Also if he had telugu nativity, did he change the music of his recycled songs (like doorathil naan kanda or
alaigaL oyvadhillai songs) for telugu audience?
Thanks in advance

Nazir,
For your information, IR is completely aware of Telugu Nativity. He and Vamsy together used to write songs for Vamsy's films. Most of the Vamsy's films from 'Sri Kanakamahalaskmi Recording Dance troupe' had lyric by "Vamsy-Ilayaraja".
Yes. He did change the orchestra and songs for recycled film 'alaigaL oyvadhillai. It's telugu version Seetakokachiluka had a completely different song 'Sagara Sangamame', the orchestra for the song 'Alalu Kalalu' (I don't know what it is called in tamil) is totally different. I can list many more. He gave 100% telugu native music for the films he did. Songs from all his evergreen telugu hits like Alapana, Anveshana, Abhinandana, Swarnakamalam, JVAS, Kondaveeti dongs, abhilasha, Mantrigari Viyyankudu and many many more are totally native to telugu. I can't possibly list all IR's telugu hits here. If you are talking about Carnatic based songs, Carnatic music is common to entire south india. There is nothing like nativity in that area.
IR did complete justice to whatever he did in telugu. Telugu audience like him a lot and treat him as the best thing to have happened to them after Ghantasala's period. If IR had no telugu nativity, he wouldn't have achieved that stature.

***Sorry for being responsible for this huge digression***
Thanks Teja. That was part of what I wanted to write. Also, Nazir, there were many non-telugus who composed music for telugu movies. Some of them who I can think of immediately are Chandrabose, S-G, BappiLahiri, Laxmikanth-Pyarelal who did not make that effort to understand the local tastes. As a result their songs were so non-Teluguish, if you will, that they faded away gradually from the minds of the telugus. I don't think I can explain the feeling when I say "their songs have the tamil/hindi aroma which is different from the telugu experience". One has to have lived in AP to understand what I am trying to say.
In any case, I am not making a sweeping statement, but I think IR survived and stood as an unbeatable composer for a long time is not just because he had great talent, knowledge and worked hard, but also because he understood the local tastes/pulse better than others. Others who blended and identified excellently with the telugu masses were KVM and MSV.
ARR is very much capable of doing this. He has displayed his adaptability so perfectly with the Hindi audience. I am sure he will do it with the telugus too - let's see.
***End of digression, hopefully***

Succeeding in Malayalam field is one thing IR has done effectively. ARR is yet to make any kind of mark in Malayalam. Making a mark in Telugu is easy
Songs will sound like "andhakko kundhakko" whatever it is the hero and heroine will jump up and down!! What is there to score!! 99 out 100 telugu movies are junk movies.

Nice compilation guys and girl :). I did not know it has been 10 years. Come to think of it...ROJA was such a runaway hit that people almost branded him as a one hit wonder who will not be able to survive in the industry. Puthiya Mugam was actually a great album..but it did not get as much success as roja's music did..but it did cement the fact that ARR is no one-hit wonder. By the time gentleman and thriruda thiruda were out...I got so hooked on to his music. Never before had I heard a song again and again as I did in the case of "chikku bukku" and "chandralekha". Even to this day it is hard to believe that thiruda thiruda is a tamil album. It sounds so sophisticated and was so way ahead of its time...and that one album for sure would have doubled rahman fans all over the country (if only mani had shown a little more clarity in the story..it would have been a major hit). I know people who do not know a word of tamil but buy rahman's albums without fail. The "rahman" brand name is so hot that the very fact any production has his music adds value to its box-office and cassette sale. Hats off to this "isai Puyal" and hope he gives us many more mesmerizing tunes.

erto...though i do not like branding...I am with you on this one. every time I am browsing channels and browse into a tel channel..it is most cases the same situation two girls (preferablly in the rain) dancing with 1 guy...and it is always the same kind of erotic songs...due to this i feel telegu movies are more vulgar than tamil novies..ofcourse there are always exceptions.

Hey WN, the IP buster, many thanks, how've you been? Potter around occasionally these days, there's so much attrition in the real world that viewing some of the slugfests here is just about the last in the priority list. Plus, my daughters are demanding more quality time these days..
