It is a known fact that with Baba, ARR has marked his 10th year in TFM in a Big Way.
The beneficiaries of this prodigy's talents, tat’s us the fans, have decided to call for Celebrations in a Big Way.
Hence, a Constellation of ARR Fans from the newtfmpage Forum got together and took a walk down memory lane, through each year of A Decade of Rahmania.
The fruit of our labour saw the creation of a whole new Website, "10 Years of Universal Conquest", in Dedication to ARR.

one thing that i would like to see discussed, is "where is ARR going to be in the next 10 years, w.r.t to TFM". do you see him going to other arenas (like HFM/Musicals) or do you see him giving more albums and spending most of the time on TFM?

I guess he is making more money in Hindi field. Gradually he will slip away from Tamil field. Just for the sake he would score music for ManiRatnam which would anyway be having an Hindi version. He gave some decent music for 5 or 6 years. He will go down in the history of TFM as a short term wonder.

good point bb....
with Bombay Dreams...many Hollywood offers will come his way...he will definitely choose what will challenge him....
and what I am looking forward is a "coming out in the open" of the subtle music Indian music is having on the popular western pop genres like hip-hop, dirty south etc...we can expect rahmania having them borrow a lot from us...yes...the sand glass is turning.....
And like ARR himself has said " I know when to come back to my roots...."
so he will be there always to dish out experimental fare....instead of the same aracha mavu stuff which MDs are forced to do as an occupation.

Unmai, don't you realise you are the most idiotic, stupid moron to ever visit this forum?
And you have the cheek to insult other people.
You are a pain.
You are a pest.
You are an idiot.
Now that all the above has been ascertained, get lost.

Nijam you support IR with a name GB
You criticize IR with a name Nijam
Nobody is behaving like a punk like you!! Only cunning cowards will play double games like this!! Why don't you tell with a straight face that you are a moron!!

Another moronic statement from a jackass.
Look, I am telling you for the last time. I am not GB. I even explained this clearly, but apparently you do not understand simple English. Your shallow mind can only understand straight forward things and gets confused when it is put to a simple test.
BTW, did I tell you that you supporting IR actually brings down his stature? Get lost idiot!

Cheenu,
Come on..am also a big IR fan and only very selectiveaboutARR.Pudhiya Mugam was a really outstanding piece.
All IMHO.
OISG,
got my mail? :) a big one is due later.
BTW, Is it true that ARR worked with IR in Punnagai Mannan and Enna Satham Intha Neram was his part for a major portion?

>>>But Pudhiya Mugam is really an unpardonable one to miss!!
True.
I will definitely make an effort to write a special writeup on that as it is my most favourite album, I have ever listened in my life. I just want to share the experience of listening to PM and the kind of change and effect it brought in me. I still can feel the effect of PM that I had in 1993. Great work...but a poor film and picturisation. More will come in the webpage. Please wait.

Good job, folks! Congratulations to all who mounted this effort.
'Pudhiya Mugam' being left out is a grave error. May Bharath be condemned to listen non-stop '50 lalala songs in the same raaga' by SAR. Also disheartened to see PP languishing in the sidelines, and my fav. 'manmada mAsam' not appreciated for what it represents, a perfect showcase to the ARR style. And to think that PP was left out, but the (IMHO!!) very ordinary Baba basks in undeserving spotlight...hmm..
Would have also loved to edit some of the hyperbole and keep it moderate, but then we all know how the passionate fan can feel:)
Cheers!!

"where is ARR going to be in the next 10 years, w.r.t to TFM"
I think he will outgrow TFM, will move onto international assignments, probably do one or two movies a year in TFM/HFM. I think (wish!!) he'll become a household name the world over and better represent popular contemporary Indian music than his preceding ambassadors of Indian music - Ravi Shankar et al. As cosmician pointed out, apart from influencing existing genres in American/Western music, it might carve out a new genre for itself. and Rahman might lead the effort.

""where is ARR going to be in the next 10 years, w.r.t to TFM". do you see him going to other arenas (like HFM/Musicals) or do you see him giving more albums and spending most of the time on TFM?"
good question, bb.
I managed to record parts of the recent Independence Day interview wit ARR on Sun TV.
He was asked this question by the interviewer (tis lady who hosts some shows on sun tv, but dont know her name now).
Here's the bit translated into full English from the half-Tamil half-English interview:
__________________________________________________
Q: You started your Music Director career in Tamil movies. But now fans are saying that AR Rahman is associating himself alot with Hindi movies. We feel "aathangamairukku" (what does that mean?) [ARR laughs]. So do you think you will come back?
ARR: The main thing is, there were many groundbreaking movies which were made initially. For example, if you take Roja, Bombay, then Gentleman, Indian. Such movies are becoming more rare these days. Something should interest..
And due to piracy, the whole audio market has gone down. There are too many lows now unfortunately.
[Interviewer interrupts]
Q: You mean to say Hindi movies are not as affected by piracy?
ARR: There is, but it has affected the Tamil industry alot. Generally speaking, as well as the audio market.
So in the case there is a big vision to do some music, I dont have the budget. It has come down to a very drastic amount. I think, hopefully, it will all revive next year...because we have a scope. At one time everyone really expected alot from Tamil music. But slowly it's coming down and deteriorating. And hope it comes back again.
__________________________________________________
Not all the above was translated. Both ARR and the interviewer spoke in half-sentences and hopped from English to Tamil in the middle of the sentence. Some of the full sentences above are completely ARR's own.
Anyway, this sounds pretty positive. If ARR finds the kind of movies he is looking for, I'm sure we will find him in TFM more often. And the positive note about the revival next year sounds promising.

"Gentleman (1993) had completely wiped out the competition"
OISG, ungal statement-ku naan 'Strong Objection' raise panren :) The impact left by Yejamaan is missed out! Yejamaan was released 18.2.93, just a couple of days after India won the Madras Test to take a winning 2-0 lead against England!! :)
