It has been mentioned on more than one occasion that YSR is the MD who will take ARR's place. YSR has produced many hit albums lately using new, fresh and funky styles of music. I believe that this statement has been proved by Yuvan after Dheena, Rishi and Thulluvatho Ilamai. When compared to ARR's recent Thenali and Star we can see that YSR has taken the lead in this race to be the best. YSR has been signed for many new and exciting projects so I can see that he will be the block in ARR's attempt to regain his position as No.1 in TFM.
What are your thoughts on this?

>>>YSR is a mere 21 and he produced dheena which is being compared to kadhal desam which ARR did at the age of 31. So YSR has done at 21 what ARR did at 31 showing that YSR has the talent to be the next MD who will be as big as ARR if not bigger.
Probably you don't know the facts. ARR came into the advertising world and created waves by bagging, the best MD award for Leo coffee at the age of 19 (Check the actual name of the award. All I know is its an award given for all of india. It should be in 1989 - 90 . I think). In his teen and his yearly 20's he made several popular ad music like pepsi and MRF etc. Kaadal desam probably was released in 1996 (+- 1 year). The kind of music was a completely new one with different heavy sounds and instruments used in it. People accepting that music at that time ( for the first time) made way for a new trend. What, YSR is doing now is just following that trend. Nothing new. Okay..nothing bad either. But , if you take Grahan from KR that was released probably by 94 or 95 then , you can say that it was some thing new from KR to hindi audiences. ARR was not that well established in HFM that time.
Where is that KR now..by the way?

YSR is good. I feel he is the most talented of IR's children. But to compare him with Rahman is really funny. This reminds of a letter which had been sent to Kumudham when Sadagoppan Ramesh made his debut:"will he be the next sachin?". I really think the fight is on for the 2nd and below spots. ARR is undoubtedly no. 1. I was a big fan of IR, but that was before ARR appeared. I still like IR, but feel that ARR has really surpassed everyone. YSR atleast stops ppl like SAR from getting movies. SAR is the worst ever!!

I think we can give HJ credit for some good melodies and tunes though there is a heavy ARR influence in the instrumentation etc.
At least ARR has raised the bar higher and it is giving birth to quality musicians like KR, HJ, YSR...monopoly is no longer the name of the game...and now ARR also has to infuse more creativity to stand out from the crowd.

Other MD must have atleast minimum quality in music to compare with ARR. The incredible music from ARR never be comparable with useless MDs. Let's we talk about ARR and IR yah that great debate, I love it.

What is the point of debating over a matter without any basis or criteria of comparisons?
Sure, do not waste your time. Should IR or ARR waste their time, they wouldn't be what they are now guys!!!

VVV this is not a debate about YSR being better than ARR.It is more about YSR being the next MD in line after ARR who is going to take ARR's place due to his exit from TFM. Whats to doubt about this debate?

Common friend,
Being a staunch ARR fan,I'm not as exposed to other M.Ds' music as you guys.It does feel good to hear that others recycle their own stuff too!But do they do it as much as ARR does?
Can you name a few?

Maybe I am being a little dense here... I still cant figure out why people say Rahman recycles his own tunes and sounds repetitive.. Personally, except for a few overtly obvious stuff(like Ghanan Ghanan in Lagaan), all the rest of his songs, IMHO, are in no way similar... at least to listen....
I dont see any resemblance between AP, KKKK, Rhythm, Thenali and his earlier works in TFM. All of them seem to be genuine stuff. If not as authentic, as some claim, the music still never resembles anything else, at least his previous movies.
Probably he produced a lot of music other than his TFM stuff from Roja to Star...of which, apparently am the only one not aware of....
If I were to say someone is recycling, it can only be S A Rajkumar... I cant think of anyone else significantly recycling and sounding alike all the time..
I have to add, I am not familiar with technicalities of music, so maybe that is preventing me from realizing the repetitive, recycled music of ar rahman. please enlighten...
Thanks

Why should Yuvan shankar replace rahman? I think there is enough place for both of them to be in top and make money and give us good music... IF yuvan will continue his goodwork from Thulluvatho ilamai...
I do believe, like there is coke and pepsi, they can be different and cater to different people...
karthik has to wake up(d*3 is a weak but good sign), unless he wants to become campa-cola....

Travis I couldn't agree more. Your Pepsi and Coke statement sums this argument up perfectly. My point in this argument is that ARR(Pepsi) and YSR(coke) are both great MD's, but when Pepsi is slowly being removed from the market, obviously coke will take the lead in sales.

We not consider YSR is MD. He is learner. Let him learn first from IR, ARR and other MD, then we talk about him as COKE or PEPSI.

dn all I can say in response to your comment is that Jealousy is very unbecoming.YSR is the most talented upcoming MD and comments like your are what hinder their progress.I think better u leave your uneducated thoughts at home rather than make a fool of yourself with comments like this in an educated forum.

YSR is getting assigned to many big budget films so maybe a couple of these directors will be able to bring out the best of YSR.We have seenthe standard of his music in films that don't do justice to his music.I hope these films give YSR the credit and appreciation that he truly deserves.

Dear ARRFAN,
If u think recycling is a song being made from hindi to tamil and vice versa, then actually ur list is very limited. But I feel, rahman does new music if given time, and in cases like Jodi and Star, I heard that it was the director who insisted on remaking since he didnt have time or something.. However, if u look at Ratchagan, that was quality music for same Praveen. Mil Gayee was also remade into hindi on the director's insistence... Ultimately, as i see it, this is not the fault of rahman but of the producers and directors who dont want to wait and are content with his existing music in other languages. In fact, I heard also the same Praveen holds rights to many hindi movies with rahman's music. So we will be seeing Zubeidaa and One 2 Ka 4 coming soon also down south..
In a way u r correct, becoz these remade songs often end up not sounding as good as their originals (Taal and Thaalam are fine egs.) and thats enuf for most df-ers to whisk off rahman as being repetitive and recycling.
I feel sad also when this hindi-tamil-hindi thing is made becoz fans are the ones who ultimately lose out in not getting more new stuff from rahman.

arrfan & Travis,
why ignore a couple of TFM-TFM recylces (already reported umpteen times in this DF) like
-ottakatha kattikkO (Gentleman) to neeyum nAnum onnAnA (Bombay)
-pachai kiLikaL thOLOdu (Indian) to suthi suthi vandheeha (PadayappA)...

YSR is surely talented but he is yet to prove them. only poovellam kettuppar is good. thulluvatho ilamai is just above average. but, i don't know why arr fans get angry by the comparision bet'n YSR and ARR.
now, you may understand why IR fans get angry!
i am amused that ARR has got a competition so soon!
