I think KR got inspired by Harry Belafonte in the Anjala Anjala song in UKP. I am specifically talking about the tracks in Beetlejuice movie. Its possible I am just misled by the way the trumpets are used. Golden ears give it a listen.

hearing this, I now have doubt on masthana masthana,I feel KR is the culprit in lifting from belafonte, not IR. (but why he let him do it? GOK)

Guys,
Here's the original of 'oho keechu kiliye', Mugavari, by Deva. Original is called 'Enemies' by Dr Alban.

And the original of Karthikraja's song from naam iruvar namakku iruvar 'hello enthan kaathala'...original is from the movie OST Evita, sung by Madonna, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Excellent work! I'd like to add one more to your archives - KR's Ullasam again. The no. is "Veesum Kaatrukku", a beautifully crafted song no doubt, but I believe it draws heavy inspiration from the title track of either 'Pocahontas' or 'Lion KIng'. Can't remember which, last heard a few years ago. Maybe your expert sleuthing will unearth the right source.
Thanx

that has already been 'unearthed'!! Check out the copied songs page! The song is from Pocahontas, colours of the wind, by Vanessa Williams...
http://newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://dhool.com/rr/copied/pocohontas.rm
But again, the second interlude in that song had a very specific (direct lift) inspiration from a WC composition, which I had downloaded sometime back but seem to have lost now! Lemme search for it!

Here are some more older ones...with song files to verify...all of them are on A R Rahman. I'm of course a huge fan of ARR but my interest in music plagiarism overrides all others!

There is no cent percent similarity as claimed by Karthik. Such situations do occur with usage of similar instruments. It is inevitable. You cannot call this as copying, since the same software is prevalent in most of the keyboards.
You should call Dheena songs of YSR and Some songs of Deva which sound like ARR in his era as copying. Your mentioning is something like telling "Look he is using the same alphabets like others to speak english". Look at the literature and not at the alphabets.
Whatever you may say ARR is ARR, a phenomenal and at the same time humble music director of tfm, who has reached internationally and beyond all these comparisons.

Kripa:
I agree with you. These cannot be called 'copying'. Most are loops which could be used and reused...using beats from readymade CDs is a very common practice in the west while composing.
Copying is what Deva did with 'Enemies'!
I was just pointing out a few instances of inspiration. No offense meant. I was the webmaster of the arrmp3 and arrfans website in geocities, so I'm not anti-arr by any standards. But again, nobody is god when it comes to music, IR included (though he comes very close, considering his background before he came to music...what you'd ideally call a born genius..I prefer calling this 'possessed'!). Everybody has their own limitations and strong points.
Even Deva can come up with absolute gems. If we just get that fanatic streak off us, there's so much we could explore and learn!

Deva is the BEST when it comes to copying :-)), but he has got a good name in the film industry being humble(Now I know why he is humble....he can't afford to be arrogant. Mostly his hits are copied)

Second interlude of "Veesum Kaatrukku" is straight lift from Joseph Haydn's Concerto for Trumpet in D, Movement I.

Re: copying and ARR. ARR is the first to borrow rhythm arrangements from other songs. Earlier people were borrowing only tunes. For eg. thangath thAmarai magalE has the same arrangment as a Khaled song from Nsi Nsi. The term 'copy' does not apply in cases like this and so, many songs were left out in the Copied thread. Though this it is not TFM, I want to point out Zubeida as another example where the rhythm arrangement was borrowed from U2-Achtung Baby. This is one of the points which reduces the points ARR scores for originality.

The page is:

Note: You could download the midis by using right click and 'save target as'. If they dont play try playing them thru windows media player or Quicktime. Winamp wont work with them.

The interludes of `vA vA anbE vA' (or something like that) from `rishi' (YSR) seem to be inspired from `ooo lalalla' of minsAra kanavu...
