Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

SOTD...nay..SOTS (Song Of The Situation) request.
yaaradi nee mohini kooradi aen kaNmani From vanjikkOttai vaaliban(?)
I would like you (or if u want i) to do the karoke stuff in the place of veerappa's famous dialogue "sabaash sariyaana pOtti", again its a situational request :-)
"OM" shanthi shanthi shanthi.
btw, bb, if the above-requested song is already "puttified" then u can "puttify" amaidhikki paeyar thaan shanthi andha amaidhiyil Aedhadi shanthi (it is a OK song for this situation).
NOM, JFF

Kupps, naradhar vElai ellaam sari thaan, except that yaaradi nee mOhini is from uththama puththiran. I think you have the Padmini-Vyji song "kaNNum kaNNum kalandhu" in mind ;)

Frankly, MS, I wouldn't give the time of day to your types. I wouldn't have bothered if I had not received three messages today from posters here - yes here, right from this thread.
Next time a statement irks you step back and ask yourself this: How much of that "insult" is really part of the statement? And how much of it your own reading into that statement? Does your dislike for the person and their views in general ever colour your reading? The evidence is aplenty for all to see.
I guess other NOT agnostic people who read my comment got it (repeat): Neon does nothing for the spiritual essence of any religious icon - OM or Crescent or Crucifix. In fact, it is THE touch of crass to a perfectly pure symbol.
It's not just the typo and the grammo, but you are completely on your own in the interpretational wilderness. You must see that for yourself, surely? Sadly, that's how things are for you right now, and that must be tough.
Yes, you played the religion card - and in a base, vengeful, manipulative way. Unfortunately for you, all that "holier than thou" fakery didn't wash (you had to come back with two additional "wondering" posts.) Still, people here saw your outrage for what it really was: disingenuous and vindictive. That was your chicanery - not your faith's.
And definitely not the line to summon to inaugurate a course on "sensitivity training"
- but you had to compound it further, with this:
"And for once, please stop dispensing advices and analyses embellished by your strident claims of linguistic superiority which reflect nothing but your circuitous way of converging into rubbish."
Like we needed proof of your reserves of animosity, and yet another example of the greater depths of classnessness to which you could sink. I didn't know my "linguistic superiority" (did I make such a claim?) was such a thorn in your side. How much you must hate me and my presence here, MS. But you know what? I am not surprised.
Hate is what Bigots do best, don't they?
(Glad that the "diction" duel is archived. There must also be a list of Chithra's mispronunciations list which I'd provided. I'm sure that's there too. Once a linguist? Don't worry though, I don't believe I'll be calling you for lessons in English and good "grace." I get by quite nicely with what I've got, thank you.)

Kupps,I should have made it more clear...it is not newtfmpage but the SOTD thread which indeed has moved towards a more MD-balanced platform and the discussions more involved and interesting.I atleast know in some cases how much homework went into before the SOTD got decided and featured.
Kurumbu,my comment is more malicious than you think!:))
The other song from Kuzhadhayum deivamum
Kuzhadhayum deivamum guNathal ondr
kutrangaLai marathuvidum manathal ondru

bb,
I wouldn't've bothered to write this, but 8 people from this thread wrote me, (yes, this very thread) and appreciated your last post, so I had to pass it on. Otherwise, you know I wouldn't give you the time of day.
OISG,
I think, "Thatti kaetka aalillainnaa thambi sandai" from "NinaithAlE inikkum" would be an apt song too.

Song of the Day: andha sivagami maganidam from pattaNaththil bootham.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/sivagami.rm
- Sung by P.Suseela and TMS. Music by Govardhanam.
- The film starred Jaishankar and K.R.Vijaya. The song was picturized as a song of praise on Lord Murugan, but in reality, it was Kannadasan's call to Kamarajar. Manisegaran wrote:
When Kannadasan left DMK he was with Sambath in the Tamil Desiya Katchi. Later he aligned himself with Kamaraj. It was at this time that Bantulu produced Karnan. In the film he wrote the song "Ullathil Nalla Ullam Urangathenbathu Vallavan Vaguthathada". But poilitics could never agree with people who simply cannot conquer fear, emotion and anger. Kannadasan is a very emotional person, typical of most poets. So he used to be upset over trivial matters and make hasty decisions. There was a time when Kannadasan was not too happy with Kamaraj too. Later on he wanted to patch up with Kamaraj. So came the film Pattanathil Bootham with music by Govarthanam, the brother of Sudarsanam. There Kannadasan wrote the song:
"Antha Sivagami maganidam Seithi cholladi-ennai
sErum Naal Paarka cholladi!
vERu Yeverodum naan pEsa vaarthai YEthadi? Velan illaamal thogai Yethadi?"
- Manisegaran on songs written with personalities in mind: http://www.newtfmpage.com/my/mani/person.html . In this post, he mentions other songs written with Kamaraj in mind.
- This is the first song by Govardhanam to be featured in SOTD.

Kupps i liked your ending!
OISG appadiya?!
coming to the SOTD,
pattanathil bootham was a movie which I liked very much as a kid.there were many reasons for it
One it had magic, two it had nagesh and three it was in colour! at that age music did not appeal to me as much- so i liked AL raghavan's ti ,itti ,vatti without even knowing what the hell vatti meant. KRV in a swimsuit did not have me in a swoon!( kannil kandathellam kaatchiya!)
the movie has songs that are good without being exceptional.
i believe this was taken from an english movie which in turn is borrowed form arabian nights!

The last sentence should read " I believe this movie is an adaptation of an english movie " The Brass Bottle" which in turn is borrowed form The Arabian Nights!

Sachu: Ennanga paer ethu?Ceaser Cheenu Enakku pidikkala.
Nagesh : En?
Sachu :Engappa oru naai vaLarthar.Athukku Ceasernnu paeru vechar..naai sethupoachu!
Nagesh:Paeru vechan seri..Soaru vechana?
One of Nagesh's gems!
Nagesh/Javar were the selling points of this movie.Handsome Jai with Mai in the eyes..!Govardhanam is another one who could not sustain a good start. With successful movies like this and songs like "naadaswara oasayilE" he could have been a successful no.2 atleast .Much later "Varaparasadam" too did not launch a career for him.
I see Govardhan in TKR mould than MSV mould.A striking similarity in the techniques used by TKR in Sangamam for "thanna thaniyaga" is there in this song also.
This song is a regular in SunTV "thenamudhu" around 00.30 IST these days.KRV in atrocious close-ups trying desparately to show her love for Jai.But all said and done I would love to sit thru this movie even today.
Vengayam, No one expects a kid to swoon seeing swim suited KRV in PB.Had she tried that during her "Nalla Neram" times the chances are likely!

OISG :)))
Yes Vengayam, PB (1967/ Sarada Productions) was loosely based on The Brass Bottle. The Brass Bottle, incidentally, was a novel written in 1900 by F.Anstey, and found many screen adaptations- the 1914 and 1923 versions were silent movies, and the 1964 movie with Burl Ives playing the role of Fakrash-al-Amash, the genie, is the version in circulation today.
Jaavar Seetharaman was equally good as jeeboombaa, the genie whose well-intentioned doings land Jai in trouble. The hilarious tournament scene, in particular, stands out in memory. A good, entertaining film!
Govarthanam's songs were good- 'ulagathil siRandhadhu edhu'-ALR/PS/TMS (where a greedy Nagesh avers its money, and a lovelorn KRV flutters her eyes, curls her lips and votes for love; while Jai walks away with the prize, singing an ode to motherhood), 'kaNNil kaNdathellaam kaatchiyaa'- TMS/PS (Jai trying to mollify an angry KRV in a swimming pool), and two unforgettable PS solos- 'naan yaar yaarendRu sollavillai, nee yaar yaarendRu kEtkavillai'and 'edhirpaaraamal virundhaaLi
ingu En vandhaan ena ninaiththaayO'. I think there was a LRE song too.
Govardhanam has been a sadly under-utilized MD. 'kaNNum kaNNum pesiyathum unnaal andRO'and 'paththu padhinaaru muththam muththam' can also be added to 'nadhasawara OsaiyilE' and 'gangai nadhiyOram' as classic creations of Govardhanam. I recently came to know that it was Govardhanam who composed music for the 1981 film Kadavulin Theerpu, that had wonderful songs like 'indRu vandha kaatRinilE enna visEsham' and 'anbu thalaivan kaaladi'
