I happened to watch Dum Dum Dum.The BGM was very different from the usual Karthik Raja movies. It was a great effort. Any views?

mani,
shakalaka baby is a good song! mebbe u have caught the reviewers disease and have bcome biased. infact IMHO shakalaka is the best in "mudhalvan" closely followed by "azhakana rakshasi"

Did somebody noticed this : in this song, Desingu raaja, before the start of the second stanza, there will be one inverse GrahaBedam of what he did first, and KR does it so beautifully. HATS OFF to KR

Bharath,
I too did not say "Shakalaka Baby" is a bad song.

Sudhakar..is no good reviewer. krishna krishna is the mediocre number in the album. suRRum bhoomi is a very innovative attempt. Rock style music for a rustic/ethnic song without a trace/hint of any accent or inflection. Very good interludes, even thought the second one has IR style humming. But overall KR has done a pretty good job. Listen seriously you will notice there is so much going on in a song (chord backing etc). The lyrics are also good.

Anyone who makes even the slightest criticism of a member of the Raja household is no good here:-))
As for Sudhakar's reviews....he's more honest than most people. Unfortunately, and I am to blame for this, I made the mistake of taking what I thought to be a truly good review and posting it here.:-))

is criticizing a review sin anymore? please, fellows, when you post anything hereafter, please also include a note as to what kind of response you would like to see. it's our duty to keep you happy. (as the great song song goes: we like to see you smile!)

There were a lot of critcisms on 'Vanjinathan ' and I don't think anybody objected here. Is it also because KR belongs IR family?

aruvi.... may be the Reviewer is/was more honest than many other people.... but in this instance what he said was wrong.... calling Krishna Krishna as good and other as avg and saying the lyrics was bad.... hmm... iam a little confused about the *honest* word now.... am i having a wrong meaning of *honest* ?
also, why bring IR or his family into this suddenly ? there were many instances when everyone pointed the rubbish/junk songs (just like Vanjinathan).... u don't read those ? come on common friend, u saw many instances where *IR and family got thrashed*, u don't see those ? why do u talk about *uraikira madhiri* ? i don't get it....

Criticism is not at all bad. But biased criticism shouldn't be claimed as being genuine or honest. And certainly, there are a lot more biased reviews here than honest. Unfortunately, people seem here think that being honest in itself is wrong. At least, if it doesn't meet with their own judgement. Sudhakar points out that the BGM is very good and praises KR, but what people seem inclined towards fighting off and proving wrong is his opinion that the songs were poorly rendered and not good. Was his honest opinion wrong? Especially considering that his opinion is shared by most people...and most reviewers/music fans that I have come across on the net. But then...even this may find objectors:-)).

aruvi, again i will ask the same question - how come "Krishna Krishna" sound better than other songs ? that's why i asked if it was a honest opinion..... well, whomever i came across with, liked other songs much better than Krishna Krishna....
and Arul - may be iam wrong - "IR and his family" are'nt thrashed.... but IR was....

MR.Sudhakar may have his right to review music. But, how can one say that apple is orange in color? I just can't understand should he say "KRISHNA^2" is better than 'Desinghu Raaja' ? IMHO, Krishna^2 will rank the last in the album and in fact, it was the last song recorded in the album itself!!!

Well done KR. I watched the movie yesterday and the BGM really stands out. Thanks for the refreshing and melifluous music through out the movie. It keeps pace with feel-good nature of the movie. Hope he keeps up the trend in his future movies.

Folks..dont delude yourself into thinking what this Sudhakar writes is a review. Everybody has the right to a job..but you need to have the qualifications for it. I dont think this guy is. The only words related to music I can find are 'chorus, beats, guitar'.
If you want to know what a real music review is - please read
http://www.themusicmagazine.com/dumdumdum.html
And if you still think I am biased read my posts in the 'Copying' thread. For that matter read a lot here and post little :) If this ratio is very small then you give people a chance to doubt your intelligence and/or your sincerity.

kiru,
these r the first lines of the review.
// "With this colourful score for Dum Dum Dum, Karthik Raja has broken into Mani Ratnam's production house, till now a Rahman monopoly"//
although i liked the review she cant be factually wrong.
mani used
1) V.S Narsimhan (1)
2)A.R.R (5)
3) Deva (2)
4) Karthik raja (1)
and used them in that order...
Thats in no way is a ARR monopoly..anyway the rest looked good
bye

I saw DDD yesterday. KR's BGM was pretty good. For one it does not stick out like a sore thumb like in ARR's movies. Songs are really good. The choice of singers does not go well with the actors. Sujata/Harini's voice and Harish's voice just can't keep up with the energy Jyothika and Mathavan have displayed on screen.

Bharath:
Mani's productions have used more composers.
His first own production was the Vijaykanth starrer Chatriyan. Music Ilayaraja. Director was K Subash.
His another home production Dasarathan, a SharathKumar starrer was directed by raja Krishnamoorthy and had music by L Vaidyanathan (or it was L Subramaniam, I'm always confused on this one!)..
Which movie did V S Narasimhan compose for? As far as I remember VSN's last movie was Paasa Malargal, a Arvind Swamy, Revathy starrer which was produced by revathy's husband Suresh Menon's telephoto films. This apparently had nothing to do with Mani!

After listening to DDD...noticed :
1) "Desingu Raja" sounds similar to a KR number that he had tuned for a Vijaikanth starrer some years back...it is a tribal dance scene where Vijaikanth and Sangeeta are honoured...do u guys know the name of the film ?
2) "Un Per..." - second line sounds like a part from the "Ruku Ruku..." number in Friends.
But on the whole quality music and nicely tuned songs. The above similarities just shows that he is still maturing.

I also felt "Krishna, Krishna" sounded similar to "Adi Jumpa" from Pandyan and also "September Matham" from Alaiypayuthe.
