I saw Virumandi by paying extra.
Why KAMAL..? Why u proved all that told by K.Balachander in Virumandi VIZHA.
It is better to have directors like BHARATHAN ( DEVAR MAHAN ) to deliver a good interesting movie.
Virumandi was very raw and not able to sit in the second half.
Dont confuse the audience with ur confused state of mind.
Iam UPSET and my friends ridicule me as a fan of yours.

mnt,
Definitely i didnt want to get into an arguement when i posted that msg :-)
It may be true that ur interpretation is right while mine is wrong. jus thought of sharing a flaw in continuity i felt.
Reading on Cinemavirumbi's Observation i hav more doubts now? did they reach Kanthimathi's place in the night or is it as u interpreated to be at Dawn the nxt day.
The scenes clearly Establishes a PAttern of them starting off frm their village during Dusk [ the scenes of Them getting married at the temple, the Cattles returning... the moonshine filled Sky... etc.,] but immtly after Reaching Kanthimathi's place she invites them and says that she's going to the night Show for the newly Wed to be left alone. i assume the travel wudve taken roughly 2 or 2.5 hrs if they had started by 6 and reached there by 8 or 8.30 PM [ so that kanthimathi can go for the night show which usually starts by 9 or 9.30 PM].
In ur version they shud hav started by dusk and reached at dawn [kanthimathi will go to night show that day] and the complete day hav been cut off frm us and we get to see the nxt night's love scenes betn Virumaandi and Annalatchumi.
Well what was Kamal's Version indeed??

Of the 12 hrs they take to reach frm dusk to dawn[as in ur version] if we give away 4 hrs for getting married and makin love in the allikulam we still hav 8 hrs of travel time. A TVS 50 at the speed of 30-40 Kms/hr will take them atleast 240-320 kms away frm CKpatti .hmmmm... wats happening am getting confused lemme watch the movie once more and get back... till then Pls understand iam not arguing with you only discussin:-)

it means u r weak in love making. they might have had good 11 hours love making again and again at allilulam. then travelled for just 1hour ie 30 - 40kms

rajasaranam,
I wish the defense lawyers spent this much time in putting together the puzzle. If they had, they would not have convicted Virumaandi :-)
But my point is, does it matter?!

Good one. But if we're disecting Vijaykanth movies, I would like some one else to be appointed the 'Official Defender'. I'm quite tired defending a Kamal movie:-)

Friends,
Several years back, 'pEsumpadam' used to invite articles from readers on 'My favourite kolaikaara director!' and reward the best every month. The fan / reader is expected to list down his favourite director's films and the charcters who died (natural/unnatural) in each film and accuse him of being a 'kolaikaaran(r!)'. I remember articles on KSG, KB etc.,
In this category, Kamal easily qualifies , with special reference to 'VirumaaNdi'! As far as I remember, all the characters die in the film ( except VirumaaNdi, Angela, Kaanthimathi, the pujaari, Nallamanaicker's son, KoththaaLan's wife, raasukkaaLai, VirumaaNdi's jolly friends and perhaps kOttaichchaamy (minus an arm!)). If you count the characters who die, then they are naarayaNan (the capital punishment convict who dies in the jail, allegedly by PEykkaaman's torture after he tries to say something to Angela), Suppaaththaa, KoNdaraaju, Annalakshmi, Nallamanaicker, the jailor and (I think) Girish, Angela's cameraman. Till the end, I couldn't make out whether PEykkaaman also gets killed in the riot or not! I am of course not including a few dozen villagers / prisoners who get killed in three installments of violence!

Sorry! I left out KoththaaLan, arguably the most important among those killed!

I had a chance to watch 'Andha Naal' last week. It was a fairly decent VHS copy. I was told a DVD version of the movie was never released.
It was quite an interesting movie. I would like to thank all those in this forum who directed me towards it.
The naration technique in both movies is similar as many pointed out here. But there are enough differences between them too.
Andha Naal is quite replete with some 'cinematic cliches'. But when you consider when the movie was released, you had to admire the director. It must have been a ground breaking movie in it's time.
I do have a couple of questions for the pundits.
Who plays the ditective in that movie? Was it a young SB himself?
When was Roshomon released and when was Andha Naal released? Just to compare.
Now, I am looking for a copy of Roshomon.

mnt,
Jaavar was a famous writer in Kumudam with works like 'udal, poruL, aananthi'. He is remembered for his eminently enjoyable 'jeeboombaa' role in 'pattaNaththil bhootham'.

Thank you thank you.
Now I remember. I remember him from 'udal porul ananthi'.
If I am not mistaken, he also wrote the screenplay (or was it story?) for pattanaththil bhootham. Correct?
As for Kattabomman, was Jackson thurai the guy who argues with Sivaji in the 'vari vatti thirai, kissthi' scene?

Jaavar also acted as the bootham in 'pattaNathil bootham'.
I have also heard that jaavar seetharaman acted as the villainous inspector of the 'Le Miserables' remake in thamizh 'yEzhai padum pAdu'.
