Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.

Sigappu rojakkal - OISG, did that kumudam attai have a photo still with IR and GA sitting on the sands of marina beach , stylish , with guitar, cooling glasses, bellbottom ? There was also a cloth , spread before the duo with some strewn coins and kamal throwing few coins mockingly.
In Kalki, writer Shivashankari reviewed this film , heaping praises on Kamal, BR and Nivas(no mention about Raja or music). The only scene she disapproved of was that last 'thaali sentiment' dialogue by sridevi. The last line of her review said something like this "padam paartha sila naatkalukku piragum nenjai edhuvo piraanduvadhu pol oru unarvu"

C.S.Jeyaraman singing for MGR ! I would love to see this song in video :)
Bhanumathi and Jeyaraman calling each other as Raja and Rani in the middle of the song was a delight to listen to :)
'Thesingu Rajan' reminds me of quite a few striking lines of the ballad ('thEsingu rAjan kathai') that was prescribed for Tamil in school. 'kada kada venru sirithAnayyA rAja thEsingu' comes to my mind immediately (note the flowing rhyme, typical to a ballad). I vaguely remember the king fighting with a sultan in Delhi and also his taming a wild horse. The verse had a stimulating effect when read loud. By the bye, was it based on a real story? (The film could be based on that story too). Is the ballad available online?

Raja Desing did not do well due to two tragedies. MGR in double role, one as Raja Desing and other as the Muslim hero. Both were brothers. However till the end, they will not know the truth. His brother in the battlefield will kill raja and the brother will commit suicide subsequently. MGR, MG Sakkrapani, MN Nambiar (Delhi sultan/Senapathy), SSR (Raja's Muslim friend Khan), Bhanumathi (SSR's pair), Padmini (MGR's pair) and KA Thangavleu. I think the dialogue was by Kaviyarasu. Those days, almost all MGR's rAja movies he only wrote the dialogue like rANi samyukta, ManAthi mannan, Nadodi mannan, Madurai vEran etc.
The folklore was filmed in a cinematic way, which is suited to MGR's formula. I think this song was picturised for SSR and Bhanumathi (I am not very sure. Whatever may be, a nice song by CSJ and Bhanumathi. ManamEvum rAjakumara by sErkhAzhi and Jikki was for MGR and Padmini. I could not remember other songs. I also did not see this movie for a long time due to its dual tragedy.
CSJ songs for MGR in TR Rammanna's 'pudumaippittan' were good. "ullam irandum ondru" for MGR and BS Saroja (CSJ and Jikki), pitam telliya maruntondru and Yaradi nE were also sung by CSJ.
Since CSJ became the voice of sivaji in the earlier time, MGR did not use him much. He has the substitutes in Seerkazhi and AM rAjA before the emergence of TMS.

B.P. Thiagarajan,
If I remember correct, MGR+Banumathi and SSR+Padmini were the two pairs in Raja Desing. Sarasarani was picturized featuring MGR & Banumathi.
Another movie CSJ had sung for MGR was "Naam". There were three solos by CSJ for MGR. I remember two of them, they were:
Ethayum thaangum ithayam vendum
Aayiram theivangal undenru thedi
The third solo has some words like kumara anna and so on. I cannot recall the starting lines.

Song of the Day: vizhiyum vizhiyum from Sathurangam.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/vizhiyum.rm
- Music by Vidyasagar. This is film that is yet to be released. It stars Srikanth and Sonia Agarwal and is directed by Karu Pazhaniyappan (Parthiban Kanavu).
- This is another stellar album from Vidyasagar. May be his best this year. I liked the songs "enna thandhiduvEn" (Karthik and Srilekha), anbE anbE (sung very well by Karthik) and aaduvOmE paLLu paaduvOmE (Bharathiyaar's song retuned, sung by Manicka Vinayagam). The SOTD has good lyrics by Arivumathi. Harini's voice is enchanting, but this is undoubtedly Madhu Balakrishnan's best song so far. He might as well be the KJY of the future.
- Looks like the film soundtrack is topping the charts. Vidyasagar on top with "Chathurangam": http://in.news.yahoo.com/041015/43/2hbyx.html

Havent heard the song yet, but glad to see VS getting his due these days. Some of his good songs from the mid-to-late 90s went unnoticed because of the quality of the movies. He is one of the very few MDs who reminds us from time to time that melody is still very much an integral part of songmaking. Its a shame that "Aalanguyil" didnt win any awards for him last year.

Song of the Day: sandhanathil nalla vaasam from praptham.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/sandhanathil.rm
- Sung by TMS and P.Suseela. Music by M.S.Viswanathan.
- Praptham was a remake of the Hindi film Milan. This film starred Sivaji Ganesan and Savithri. The SOTD is the equivalent of "Saawan Kaa Mahinaa", a bit more classical than the original.
- The lyrics of this song is worth noting, especially the lines:
mamavin poNNukku aagaasa mEgangaL
sElai kattip paarkkudhu aasaiyOdu
naan paarkkak koodaadha pollaadha vaanaththil
maaman magaL pOgudhu naaNaththOdu
Lyrics by Kannadasan.

Praptham was a directorial venture by Savithiri who burnt her fingers and from then it was difficult for her to rise again..
A great song by PS & TMS
KAatru illa kaathu by TMS is Awesome

Pratptam was originally from Telugu film namely "Moha manasulu" directed by LV prasAd and acted by ANR, sAvitri and JamunA. Then the same director remade it into Hindi. After so many years, sAvitri directed in Tamil with SivAji, ChandrakalA and herself in the leading roles. The format of the song was almost the same in all the languages. Except Tamil, the movie was successful in other languages. In the era of colour movie, this was made into black and white.
Songs were good. NEtru paricha rOjA by TMS was lyrically very good by Kaviyarasu.

Lilting song, sung enjoyably by TMS & PS.
The original was the Telugu film Moogamanasulu (1963/ Babu Movies) stg. Nageswara Rao, Savitri and Jamuna. Music was by KVM and the corresponding song in Telugu was 'naa paata nee nota palakala silaka', with chilaka/ silaka being the equivalent of the shOr/sOr, kaatRu/kaathu corrections.
The Hindi version Milan(1967/ Prasad Productions) came next, stg. Sunil Dutt, Nutan and Jamuna.
Praptham (1971/Sri Savitri Productions) came next, produced and directed by Savitri herself, with Sivaji, Chandrakala and Srikanth as her co-stars. The film was a massive flop.
The songs were very popular though. Besides the SOTD, the album consisted of gems like sondham eppOdhum thodarkathai thaan (TMS/PS), idhu maargazhi maadham (LRE), nEthu paricha rOja (TMS) and thaalattu paadi thaayaaga vENdum (TMS).
