Hi! We've made a major addition to newtfmpage, and that is a big song bank. Dhool features thousands of songs for your listening pleasure. This site is a part of the newtfmpage.com - swara.com group. Together with newtfmpage, we wish to make this the best place to listen to tamil film songs online and know about tamil film music. Our collection includes old, new, famous, rare and unheard of songs. We are still fine tuning and fixing the database errors, so please bear with us. We value your feedback, and this will help us build the site better. Please post your comments below or mail to comments@newtfmpage.com.
This work was done by us (bb and RR) with MS and swara.com ravi.

IR in his youthful elements...not just with instrumentals (as detailed out above) but also with `humming'...
sigappu rOjAkkaL had two songs and both with great hummings...
-`ninaivO oru paRavai' with that great 'pAAApa..papApuppa'
-`minminikku' with the `nAna-nanAnA-nanAna-nanAna-nanAna-nananana-nAAA'...a lovely ending to the charanam...with this kind of beautiful fillers, I think the objectives of both the lyricist and the MD can be fulfilled...pre-written, meaningful lyrics...beautiful melodious tune structures as well:-)

Listen also to the humming filler between `ennudal unakkindRu samarppaNam' & `ennadi unakkindRu avasaram'...(the beautiful `thAnA nana nana')...or the prelude of ninaivO oru (SJ's thAnA nana thAnA nana -tnana-nana-nana-nAAA)

This song was heard in the evenings, very often as we played. Once an older fella asked us, do you know that this peel of laughter is the most glorious thing about this song? at that time, i was plain ignorant or cared less what song or what female singer let alone the peel of laughter. Over the years, that conversation used to recur in my mind and I understand that the song was unique just for that beautiful and perfectly timed peel of laughter of SJ. And, what about the song itself - I think it is one of the TOP 5 compositions of all time, because it is just perfect and just too much i feel bewildered listening to the orchestration, the charanams.
One more thing, sometime ago I also felt that no other song i've heard in my had that type of innovative postlude, except Michael Jackson' Thriller song, and this one come a few years later. Two unbelievable with two perfectly timed postludes of an unexpexted nature.!!!

This song captures the night life of a city with its flashing neon lights, discothes and night clubs which could be felt by just listening to its heavy guitar laden preludes, interludes, the crooning humming in between the interludes
---Bingo.

Onion, I totally agree with you. Sridevi was just not the "bikini" type like madhavi or amala because of her flabby thighs.
what a song!! Thanks bb. MV is great. Ivaraippoi "Hilkore, Hilkore" mattum padavaikka Eppadi dan ARR kku manasu vandudo? Very sad.
Also Anbargale Its Peals of Laughter not Peel.

Sigappu Rojakkal was probably a little ahead of its times. I have'nt seen a decent thriller since then in Tamil movies. Too bad, BR became completely graamathtu raja in the 80s.( His "Captain MagaL" in the early 90s was forgettable) SR was a taut thriller that kept Madras spellbound for more than 100 days and made other contemporary movies including BR's own "kizhakke pogum rail" seem terribly outdated, with its style and presentation. IR's BGM was a highlight as well. To me, one of the very few movies that hasnt dated as much.

vijay,
I feel "kizhakkae pogum rayil" is the timeless movie of the two. SR is dated with Kamal's Indian jerrycurls, downturned ellipsis moustache, and dark Ray Bans.

These days every non-gramathu movie that BR makes is touted as the latest avatar of Sigappu Rojakkal. Kangalaal kaidhu sei, the latest to get that honour, is probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. No, I haven't seen any of the later Sivaji pot(belly)boilers that get a frequent mention here. But still, KKS was lousy. the music OTOH ranks among ARR's best IMO.

Wasnt the story for Sigappu RojakkaL by Bhagyaraj?
- From: Mahesh (@ 24.21.235.21)
on: Thu Oct 14 23:05:12 EDT 2004
I think K Bhagyaraj pinned the story or dialogue. Of course you can distinctly remember him in the movie in the role of server.
Thanks for posting this song. Amazing song with great interludes (the long whistle and the Guitar) and the great ending with SJ's laugh. I distinctly remember the review from Ananda vikatn. This was part of cinema special and as many as 14 movies were released during Diwali. Vikatan awarded 52 marks or so and I think it topped . Of course I still cannot believe vikatan reviewed 'Aval appadithan' (one of the 14 moview) with 33.

A note abt sigappu rojakkaL is there in the bottom of this article :
http://www.thinnai.com/le0930042.html
It says, Sigappu rojaakkaL is not the copy of "Visiting Hours" 'coz, it was released atleast 4 years before the hollywood movie's release !

I was watching Dharmayudham (Podhigai TV) just now. There is this scene in which Rajini tells his friend " Tamil padamE paarka maatEn-nu sonna illa? Sigappu Rojakkal pOi paaru. Its just like an English film, you know!"

Song of the Day: sarasarani kalyani from Raja Desingu.
http://www.newtfmpage.com/cgi-bin/stream.pl?url=http://www.dhool.com/sotd/sarasarani.rm
- An old, rare gem for this weekend. Sung by Chidambaram Jayaraman and Bhanumathi. Music by G.Ramanathan.
- This was apparently a song that was popular much earlier, in stage, before it was adapted for the film.
- Manisegaran has mentioned that in this song, M.G.R is shown day dreaming.
- There is a minor glitch in the middle of the audio file.
- What are the other songs that CSJ has sung for MGR?

An unrelated query. can anyone provide some information about an MKT song, `yAnai thantham pOlE vAnil piRai nilA'. I heard this in a friend's place, when I went to India this time, and have been hooked to it from then. I bought an MP3 from Usman Road, which promised to have this song, but unfortunately the CD is completely corrupted, and I am not able to play it. I will be thankful if anyone can provide any information on this song.
Ofcourse it will be great if it can be featured as an SOTD. It looks this song is sung after MKT came out of jail. Thanks!
