Hi, my name is Cage, and I'm a guitar player
interested in all forms of music and guitars. I noticed that k.r.ravi posted a message about a guitar who is made by the company Givson. I read in a magazine that these guitars are made in India and are of high qualityas well as bizare-yet-tastefull designs. As a fan of guitars made from outside the US, I would appreciate if anyone could e-mail me at scardi@banet.net with some info on Givson Guitars. For some reason, finding information on these guitars is like finding a pre-war OM-45 Deluxe at a yard sale. Thanks.

I was just struck by how little is being discussed in topics like "IR's Experiments" (it baffles me that this thread left out "Eera Vizhi KaviyangaL" IR's most experimental soundtrack in Thamizh)and "ARR's Experiments", when this old thread managed to list some great numbers in keeping with the thread's theme.
I'm reviving this thread as a history lesson for most people who don't remember IR before the mid-80s. Also, I'm very nostalgic for the fabulous compositions he used to create with exciting give and take between the guitar, flute, veenai, violins and percussions.
More guitar classics not mentioned here from IR:
-oru vaanavil poalae en vaazhvilae
-thaalaattu piLLai undu thaalaattu
-thirutheril varum silayoa
-angel (a full-length English pop song from Kavariman sung by SPB; George Michael will cry in shame if he heard the strings in this and compared it to "Faith")
-kanavoadu yaengum(a marvelous jazz experiment with guitar, piano, violin and tabla)and lilting guitars in azhagaana pookkaL and kaadhil kaettathu from Anbae Oadivaa
-the shifts in the many transitions given a segue by the guitar, not to mention the beautiful bass guitar shadowing the whole song in "Germanyin sendhaen malarae" (whatever happened to this IR? oh, well, that's another contentious topic); also it sounds like a muted guitar along with the regular guitar strumming toe-to-toe with the tabla in "Deiveega raagam" from the same movie, but it could be a mandolin for all I know.
Well, I can go on for days on this topic, but will let go here.

Tansen guitars are good.have ordered one myself.the parts are all imported...only assembled in india.if you want a good guitar,go for the higher models, even though the lower ones also sound good...the bottomline is,buy quality...generally costlier means better but not always so...buy something that feels good when you hold it and sumthin that you are happy with.needed the tansen site...if there is any such thing.sum1 give me the address...want to check out the site, just for kicks.buy tansen, guys n gals out there...who needs stupid chinese guitars?its good, reasonably priced, and most of all...its indian.

dont buy givson...it is a stupid cheap guitar made by people who dont know even the basic things about guitar-making...it stole its name from the original 'GIBSON' to make the guitars sell....dont buy 'GIVSON'...I REPEAT..DONT BUY GIVSON...you will regret it later on.they make indian guitars look bad....buy tansen...its really good...always go for quality....GI'V'SON IS A FAKE...IT SUCKS...BIG TIME!IT HISSES...IT PISSES AND WHAT NOT!no clear sound...

GIVSON is NOT a FAKE....it has nothing o do whatsoever with the original GIBSON..I know that many people outside India have gone for GIVSON coz its totally different and cool!GIVSON is one of the best selling guitars in India..

The rythm/bass guitar sounds are hidden only if you listen to it in a TV or something. The best way to dig into IRs treasures are by listening to it in headphones. That way, the list is very very long.
One thing i'd like to point out is the very rare usage of high-frequency bass notes - something unique to IR. Check these out for eg. (high-end of the bass band)
1) Oru Kiliyin - Poo Vizhi Vaasalile (intro)
2) Unnai aan Ariven - guna (intro)
3) Chinna Chinna - Mouna RAgam (What a song!)

Why are indians always obsessed in cheese metal?
Im a UK bengali and am always overcome with shame when some middle aged bengali bloke with a pointy jackson and bunch of other dhaka'ies who think they're ultra cool come on the TV
