I was watching 'Eye on Asia' here in Canada. It featured an ad abt how this Pakistani group called Janoon is coming here. I heard one of their songs, it was the exact copy (Urdu) of Solomia by Deva ( i think it was Prasanth in that movie)...I thought to myself...now...NOONE is stupid enough to copy Deva so I supposed Deva copied it from this group...
Can someone please verifiy this??
Thxs all:)

Listen to Hasima Hasima from Chocolate by Deva.
The background beat is DITTO from an MJ song. I think it is "GHOST" but I am not sure.

~~arochordidae~~.,
Salomia is a copy from Junoon's 'Sayyoni' (Not sure how to spell it :-)
The funny thing is, around the same period, SAR copied the same song and used it in his 'ThuLLaatha Manamum ThuLLum' - Megamaay Vanthu pogiraay is the song !

Hey guys..heard the promo of a dance album on MTV featuring many Asian and Middle Eastern dance tracks and guess what...I heard "Dhoothuku? Dhothuku? Dhoothiya?"...the dance number from Rajni's Arunachalam...that was an exact lift ! The chorus had exactly the same words. Has this already been mentioned in this thread ? Anyway it is common knowledge that Middle Eastern music has become "open source" for some of our MDs.

That is the reason why he is doing so. Might be , the pressure from higher ups.

i dunno if anyone else has mentioned this already..
"thudikindra kaadhal" from nerukku ner borrows heavily from a late 80's hit called "Im nin alu" by Ofra Haza
So does "veesum kaatrukku" in ullasam from "Listen to ur heart" in the disney movie Pocahontas
A lot of pieces from the lion king have been used in the movie "vaanmathi"(thatz the name of the movie i think)

There's a male singing prelude for the song `snEhidhanE' in alai pAyudhE. Looks like that portion is heavily inspired from the song `qurbani, qurbani, qurbani' (film-Qurbani, K-A music). Clever ARR!

eden:
The alaap or the solo that the male sings in that snegidhane song is a typical qwaali style. There are hundreds and thousands of qwaali hindi film songs. I think you have probably heard only few of these kinds of songs. For a person like ARR, whom we know is good at sufi and hindustani musics, needs no exclusive inspiration from one particular film music. It would have been a quite natural tune for him .

Qawwali-styled tunes are often similar sounding. ARR is great for Sufi tunes (as good as Roshan previously was). He does not NEED to copy.

when ARR's songs sound similar to some other songs-it does not matter, oh..he knows sufi,oh..he is this blah blah..
his recent siyan from wqas ditto IR's tune from chinnavar-you guys ver...y conveniently pooh poohed it saying it is a typical rajasthani number as if you have been listening to rajadsthani folk songs.give us a break.I am yet to listen to a recent ARR song wothout being reminded either a previous tunes by himself or others. As that chap who has written exhaustive anlysis of IR songs in lolluexpress said-I am doing a C&P-
Rahman said in one of his early interviews that he avoided listening to contemporary music as did not want to get influenced by that music. He wants his music to be original and new! Alright bro, make music without the influence of your forefathers! Let us see, if you can! -C&P ends.
forefathers my foot-he cant even avoid reminding us of his contemporaries.

The latest Rahman songs as on date are melody based like those of MSV. He is giving a lot of melody numbers these days apart from the beat oriented songs. This has to be accepted. Singer Deepan chakravarthi revealed this on 29th July music show in vijay TV.

sing 'narumukaiye narumukaiye' in a faster beat. Now sing 'mudharkanave mudharkanave' from Majnu.
Can anyone see the close similarity?

Qawwali-styled tunes are often similar sounding idhukkuppEr dhAn `sappaikkattu':-) One can always claim that all those Raja folk numbers are often similar sounding & Deva never copied them? Or all those rock numbers sound similar / arabian numbers hear alike / carnatic songs are all `aaaaahahahahaha' etc?
What'll you say for the following specifics, note-for-note copies?:
-`thangapathakathin mElE' into `enna vilai azhagE'
-`kodutha sandhangaLil en manadhai' into `roja roja'
-`maNippuRAvum mAdappuRAvum' into `uppukkaruvAdu'
will you say there're so many MSV-TKR songs with similar sounding?
I have posed a specific query on a song which sounds similar and if possible please do a note by note analysis for similarity. Then accept or discard. Please don't do sappaikkattu for ARR or whoever. It's ullangai nellikkani that the way ARR does is clever, like he picks the last line of saranam or some anupallavi of some MSV song and use it as pallavi / add some multi-voice gimmick to distract the naive listener that it's all new. OK, let them be, but at least the discerning DF'ers should be able to identify????
Like it's straight on the part of IR admirers to admit that he COPIED Sunny (darling darling darling), kasme wadhe number (kanavu kANum vAzhkai), money money (kaN malargaLin azhaippidhazh) & those few more odd numbers, it'd be manly to accept those lifted by others too. (The difference is quite obvious because while it is negligible for IR & he didn't make his mainstay with them, it's not so for others. Especially for ARR who does so few in a year with so much of backing of money/producers/HCFs etc, still so much of recycles & collage speak volumes about his musical creativity:-()

Those RECTians who used to visit Bhelec theater & are familiar with a trumpet /sax based music that used to be played during intervals etc.: one of them is note-for-note copied by Harris for a few lines in azhagiya theeyE. Unfortunately, I don't have info on the instrumental piece & I couldn't discern on the exact wordings of HJ song either. Can someone (esp Rectian / Bhelec visitor) give the details?

Eden....
I dont want to draw up an IR-ARR comparison here...suffice to say that we can point out far more so-called anamolies in ARR's music because it is far few and current...old film albums...nobody spends time analysing and comparing - I am sure you will find a lot of similarities too. The fact is you have to pick on ARR and stamp him down with your perceived and biased notions of "creativity".
