Rahman's much anticipated "Boys" is set to release soon and everyone is keen on finding out more about this album. Who are the singers? What are the soundtracks like? When is the release date? Will the album be delayed? If anyone has any idea; please post here....
Also; use this thread to discuss this album..
Here is what i found::
Typical of Shankar, the director is not prepared to say much about the film at this point. However, it is known that the film will be very youthful, almost teeny-bop, in content, with the majority of the cast being in the 16-23 age group.
Shankar, apparently, has decided to cast all new faces in his film – and the younger the better.
In fact, a mention in various Tamil periodicals, and an accompanying advertisement to the effect that Shankar was looking for new faces, has created a headache of sorts for the producers. Curriculums vitae have been pouring in to the Surya Movies post box ever since the ad and the story ran in the vernacular press – and last heard from, the flood shows no signs of abating.
Curiously enough, the ad appears – thanks to emails and discussion groups – to have reached an audience abroad as well, with the result that newer batches of applications have US, British and suchlike stamps on them, which suits the producer and director fine since the film does incorporate a lot of NRI faces.
For Shankar, Boys will be a return to romance after Kadhalan, and to comedy after the Aishwarya Rai-Prashanth starrer Jeans. Though the film will feature fresh – and ergo, inexpensive – faces, Shankar maintains that the film will be typical of his style, which means lavish budgets, and expensive production values.

dumb dinesh:
Boys is running for 20 days or so. I am hearing that it is gonna be out from theatres in 10 days. I hope that will tell you the story.
Anonymous:
"1). Please do not compare the number of days the film runs in the theatre with that of films like Jeans because of the exponential growth of the VCD piracy industry."
Even in this VCD time, films like jeyam, samy, kathal kondein, Kakka kakka ran for days and bagged huge collections. So don't just bring in this excuse.

Hahaha
I dont know why people dont R*E*A*D properly!
Films like Thiruda Thirudi had only only 70 or so prints while Boys had 250 prints.
So Boys running for 20 days is like thiruda thirudi running for 75 days. So if Boys runs for another 10 days, Vasul micham for producer. And it has been declared a hit in Telugu according to all-india box office report and film stocks reports

So please dont compare and give lame excuses like even thiruda thirudi VCD was available.

Dear Nattamai,
I am afraid that either you hadn't exactly understood what I meant or I hadn't explained it properly.
Anyway, here it is.
I never compared the collections of BOYS with contemporary films like Kakka Kakka or Thiruda Thirudi at all. What I mentioned was, it is difficult for films of today (not only boys - but also the films kakka kakka and thiruda thirudi) to run as many days as films like Gentleman. It is the same as Gentleman didn't run in theatres for as long as the first tamil film HARIDAS which ran for about 3 years in theatres (!!!).
Also, I never asked for an "excuse"...! I never said BOYS had been getting poor collections at all. So, where is the quesion of an "excuse"?
And, V was right when he said BOYS running for 20 days is like Thiruda Thirudi running for 75 days. Mainly because of the number of prints made, and, also, to a smaller extent, because of those advance bookings at some theatres in the cities for the first 7 days or so at "elevated" prices for BOYS.

So
I guess the movie so good that teen/college hoppers are watching it over and over and over. Such repeated viewing ought to be taken into calculation since it adds credit to the film's teen crowd pulling victory.
Anyway, apart from BO performance, I thought it was a very stylishly made flick with openness. But the content needed refinement to a large extent. I never expected this from Shankar. Not my kind of movie but was still standing out from lots of movies with poor production values.

V,
i didn't mention teen/college hoppers. pls read again. also pls look into the reason i mentioned as to why that is happening.

Tamilnadu collections in 100 theatres for the first 25 days.....six crores..
Andhra in 130 theatres ...over 10 crores...
Overseas...54 prints...another 3 crores....
Lookslike a medium hit considering the cost of 20 crores....This stupid film does not deserve such revenue

V,
does it not also mean that more costs are involved in running the movie. Leave alone revenue, the same amount is spend for every screening. By cost accounting methods, there is REVENUE - SETUP COST + MAINTENANCE COST = PROFIT (In simple terms). So dont you think there is something we are missing
But you forgot to add, for producers to make money, Let us consider the rights (Foreign rights), IN US, there is no theatre(to my knowledge) screening TT, but Boys was already screened over the Long Weekend, considering the fact the theatres were Full on the first day, moderately full on the second and third days, it seems inevitable considering Revenue Vs Expense, there is a huge PROFIT..
Probably the distributors should be happy with this.
My uncle used to run Film Distribution company, he said until 93, the biggest grosser was Enga Ooru Paatukaran(EOP), Sangali Murugan sold the rights for the movie for 4 lakhs in Trichy and other villages, but he also mentioned in the contract, if it failed, the next move Enga Ooru Kavakaran would be sold at half the rate, but if EOP failed. But actually the movie went on to gross more 15 lakhs in the first year, and consecutively 12 lakhs in the next (this is only trichy & villages). We know EOK also was a big grosser in Profit Margins... and Ramarajan became huge...
There was a company across my house, they were going down, but you know what made them resurrect, VAIJAYANTHI IPS, Pratighatna(Tamil dubbed Version) and Ithu-Thanda police (Rajasekhar)..
In my opinion, we should always try and see the target audience, Repeat audience and Revenue, Profit margins..
Again, it also depends on who keeps DVD, Music Distribution rights!! so money is made at different fronts, In Old times, it was all included in One package(you know what I mean).
This is my 2 cents in the movie industry.. (i have my friends acting in movies too, so kind of know inside information)..

BOYS sucks a lot!!!! Shankar should hang himself for this... He had ofcourse exploited all his vulgerness in this movie. He should stop all his nonsense talks of making other movie makers to turn into tamil movies. He's a big time sucker and has to learn a lot from some of the new comers like bala, thangar, cheran etc., and stop his fu*k of posing as a very great film director and he proved as hes one among the third rated film directors! want to get the same pulse, go and see BOYS with your family as mr.Rajini dares to do that!!!!!!!!
By the way, is he going to make his next movie with Shakeela???? He deserve only that!!!!!!!!!!!SUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!

AA,
Considering the production cost of 22 crores, it still falls short of breaking even. On a side note some small-time movies made with 1 crore went onto make 5 crores on virtue of being a hit. In this calculation Boys has to make atleast twice i.e. 44 crores(or bare minimum 27crores) to be considered a hit .
However, the money margins hardly matter when big name reputations have suffered negative publicity for their next movie, especially director shankar and the writer sujatha.
BTW, its almost confirmed that Mani's next movie doesn't have any songs.

I doubt the movie took 20 some odd crores to make. It probably took sumthin around 15. Anyways so because of one film shankar should hang himself? What kind of nonsense is that.According to that the TI director should hang himself. Rajini should hang himself for Baba. And the list goes on. Just because you don't like the movie doesn't mean everyone else doesn't. Why don't you try and make a movie. Cheran makes a movie about life and so does Thangar, but when shankar does it's bad? And Bala personally i think he still needs to prove his merit. He's only 2 films old. Sethu was outstanding but nandha i personally felt was boring too similair and slow. But cant wait for his next release becuase of Vikram.
Oh well everyone has their ups and downs. Shankar's next film with Vikram should be interesting hopefully he goes with the Robo script. Maybe itll be sci-fi movie.Never seen that in india should be good.(Except that one recent hindi movie which was also sci-fi)

Piratheepan,
Boys production cost is 22 crores as quoted by several magazines and AM Ratnam. Sci-fi movies in the past: Mr.India(Hindi), Aditya 369(Telugu), Devi Putrudu (Telugu), Iyer the great(Malayalam) and Koyi Mil Gaya (Hindi)
