Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy (The Golden Era of TFM)

TFM really took a turn with the arrival of this duo to the field. While TFM has been in existence before Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy, it is after their debut that TFM really kicked off.

Songs pre-VR suffered an early death even by the 60s, whereas VR songs are most popular even today, some 40 years later.

Added to their success story is the fact that nearly ALL their songs became popular and still remain so. This is no mean achievement with no other MD having ever reached their success rate.

Let us use this thread to recollect, remininse and celebrate this great duo and their contributions to TFM.
Hope to get interesting quips from knowledgeable people like Manisegaran, Sathya Keerthi, Saravanan, Uthaya, OISG etc etc.

  It is not entirely true that Ramamurthy did for II grade movies.One of Ravichandran s "silver streak"- Naan was by TKR.The songs were hit and well received - my parents confirm this.But why TKR could not sustain is really a Billion $ question.Probable the failures and alcoholism got into the vicious circle.But despite being wedded to the bottle KD did wonders.
  
  Look at some of TKR s movies and the songs ..
  
  Sangamam - Thannanthaniyaga
  Then Mazhai - Oru Paatukku
  
  Something is certainly missing...Infact Thannanthaniyaga could not even get close to Govardhan s (MSV s assistant)"Sivagami maganidam'.Ifeel both the songs give a similar feel.TKR even lost out to Govardhan whco gave Poovum pottum and the great @Nadhaswara oosaiyile.
  
  Virtually the entire lot went with MSV-Idealogiacally tangent-Sivaji,MGR,Sridhar the supremo,Beemsingh,ACT,KSG,AVM,Gemini(supposed to a Brahmin bastion!),KB,Krishan Panju,Kalaignar,CV Rajendran.The only notable exceptions were Thevar , APN and Modern theatres (who were happy with Veda s recycle factory)who were loyal to KVM.
  
  So the MGR-back up stories are products of fertile imagination.

  Totally wrong thigs are spread by MSV 7 his friends like Kaanadasan C.V.Sridhar.
  From 1951toAugust 1965(except Genova) all films came in VR banner all songs &BG were Brilliant work of TKR. He is great musician. Eve films like,
  Kalangaraivilikkam ,Nee,Kodimalar,Nillavanam,Annandi,Kulandiyumdeivamum,Anbevaa(except one song),Motorsundarampillai,Chhiti,
  Nannannaiettal,Nadodi(except one song).Kumarippenn,Thattakul thirakkabadum,Rammu,PerralthanPillia,Parkkumpavai
  Selvamagal,Pamavijayam,Nimiratunil,Bhavani,OOty varai oorvu(Devai oor Thangai).Irrumalargal.Chandoradayam,Neenju irrukum varai,Chandroodayam and RMVEERABBAN movie released in 1973
  all songs were composed by TKR but came in the name of MSV,as Kannadsan&MSV told all producers that it is done by MSV.
  The fault lies with TKR since he sits with MSV &Kannadasan or Valli and produce tune within 30 minutes &plays violin.MSV rplays this tune to producer as if it is his tune.MSV made spilit with all scores for abve 27 films under his belt.
  He splitted with TKR suddenly after spreading false rumors about TKR.One such fase rumor By MSV & Kannadasan&theirsycophant's is
  that TKR is alcholic.If he is alcholic like Kannadasan then he would not be alive at this age of 80.
  The proplem with TKR is that he is great musician but he is not good in presenting himself. Just at looking lyrics he acan pplay 5or6 tunes in his viloin.Please recall 1962 open meeting conducted by Mr.Mayilvaganan of Radio Celyon in which Kannadasan took30 minutes for writting "Enna Enna Asaiglo Ennthan VIlli Parviyeale" & Ramamurthy tookless than 4minutes play his tunes &Crown Theatre Wada Seller (MSV) follwed TKR's tune in harmonium.

  Against MSV's films.In this exclude Kalangarai villakam (first 6 reels) Nee(first 4or 5 reels) Kodimalar(some reels) &Chhitti(Some reels)>It will be very clear that it is TKR is the sole cotributor Of VR's best music.
  My brothers were associted with VR's trooupe in 1952 to 65.

  Let's say we agree to most of what you say. Be that as it may, do you seriously believe that MSV was a mere "crown theater Wada seller" who copied TKR to glory? Do you honestly believe that the whole industry bought into a no-talent for hundreds of films? Or are you going to say that after the split, MSV fronted for other talented musicians and stole their thunder?
  
  Even if we all agree that TKR was superior to MSV, and that TKR was unfairly blackballed in TFM, there's no way you can account for MSV's enormous body of work, his legacy, standard and achievement.
  
  Thamizh Nadu must be cursed to rot in divisions and factions among its people. It's a true shame about us.

  You have mentioned some 15 movies...what about the 100- odd which MSV did from 1967 to 1973.MSV did another 75 odd from 1973-1984 till he faded out.Is TKR gonna get the credit for ninaithale Inikkum,annan oru kovil,andaman kadhali,Ulagaum sutrum valliban??
  
  Now lets take the movies/songs which CAME OUT with TKR s name.Tell me one movie which had the grandeur of Ulagam sutrum vaaliban.Why TKR could not get just one tune which could remotely equal "Enna Enna Vaarthaigalo".
  
  For MSV s character read CHO s article about the happenings during the making of Mohammad Bin thugalq.Innocent,fearless and unbiased -this is how CHO puts it..
  
  Where were your brothers after the split?After the split the whole lot of musicians stuck to MSV..Henry Daniel,GK Venkatesh(who parted after Avalukendru oor manam to do movies like Sabatham),Govardhan (who had more hits than TKR) came back and rejoined MSV.
  
  This thread is digressing towards MSV-TKR feud instead of discussing their songs.I wish someone like SL to contribute and lets have the "Creativity of MSV"thread reopened.

  I had not peeped into the forum for about 10 days.And what do I find a thread about Visu-Ramu.
  Combined they were exceptional . On their own MSV proved far superior.It is sad that they split , whatever be the reason. But one can't deny the fact that MSV continued to churn out excellent scores in Movies as different as Ulagam sutrum Vaaliban, Naalai namathe, Pattum Barathamum, Ninaithale Innikkum, Utharavinri ulle vaa, varumayin Niram sigappu, Sorgam to name only afew.
  What does TKR have Naan, Munrezhuthu, Marakka mudiyuma and a few more.
  Their subsequent movies show that it was MSV who probably gave the basic tune & TKR would then embellish it.
  The interludes in "Nallam Nallam", the score of "Atho Antha Paravai" and " " partha Gnabakam Illayo" really make me feel that they should never have parted. But if you hear " Aval Oru Navarasa nadagam", " Anbu Nadammadum ", Sippi Irukkuthu" you feel MSV was almost as good as the combo.
  The same could not be said of TKR. Considering that more producers flocked to TKR after the split
  it is either a damning indictment of TKr's talent as a composer( as against his extraordinary talent as an arranger) or just plain bad luck.
  Lwet us give benefit of doubt and settle on the latter.
  But one thing is sure their music will live on and Vaazga Mellisai (Maa)mannargal.

  I really Feel TKR shined in this Particular song "Kaagidha Odam Kadalalai MEedhu" From "Marakka Mudiuma"
  
  But other that that it was all medium Score..
  
  But the DUO(VR) combo was impeccable
  composition by MSV & violin by TKR were GEMS

  On Tamil New Year's day 1998, Vairamuthu was on Sun TV narrating the following details:
  
  Once, in 'maRakka mudiyumaa?', TKR delayed giving the tune to lyricist Maayavanaathan, who was getting impatient and angry. TKR , in turn, shouted
  
  ' Ennayyaa periya tune? Maayavanaathan, Maayavanaathan, Maayavanaathan, Maayavanaathan-idhaanyaa tune, pOyyaa!'
  
  On hearing this, Maayavanaathan went off confused and angry! Kalaignar learnt about this standoff, smiled and volunteered to write the entire song himself:
  
  'Kaagitha Odam, kadalalai meethu pOvathu pOlE moovarum pOvOm'
