While listening to many old songs, the advantages of prewritten lyrics for composers and singers became evident. I will start with two examples and we can add more as we discover them.

After reading the lyrics excercise idea by Sriram, I will now give a melody and a song situtation to the lyric writers out there!.

Situation: (basic idea was given to me by my friend, who is also a popular producer for tamil movies:),
First the idea might sound negative however this is comedy subject. There are 2 wanted persons by law, they are petty robbers or pick pockets , One is a Senior guy with tons of experience, and other one is a juninor guy, who has started, Junior wants to learnt the art, But Sr. warns him about this dirty job he does explain and gives methods to do it, but also warns him on evil side of it.
In the second bgm we open with a flash back the SR guy is chased by cops, we go back to the song here the advice becomes more to avoid this nature of job. Bottom line It should be really funny!..
The backgrounds will be changed , I have not played the completed version of the backgrounds.
i call this version as vanila edition, just basic groove + chords to keep the flow. All the best!..

Srik, I downloaded and renamed the .doc file to an mp3 file but still i can't play it in any media players. Is there anything more I need to do for this file?

(you many want to check the extension, if you windows sometimes windows explore is quite brilliant in renaming, it would be v1.mp3.doc

Srik, got it! throroughly enjoyed your song for the comedy situation. I was able to clearly visualize the scene for the second BGM. hats off!
Sridhar, heard your song too. let me echo the others' feeling that your voice reminds us of MSV's. I could feel the steady flow in emotion, maybe because you did it in one sitting.

Great discussions going on. i am too pressed to participate actively. i will post my opinions on the "advantages" issue later.
RE: pAti iravil: my vote goes to RJAY's new age version... the melody is slow and fabulously introverted (which is what i think the song is). RJAY PLEASE record a full version and opst here. MS's version comes very close. The singing is first-rate. (i was wondering why there was a similarity with azhakan's songs, but later he described his inspiration :) ). sridhar's version is different; initially i didn't like it but after a couple of listening it started to grow on me; so i stopped listening to it :-).
srikanth: this song is very good. when i first listened to it at school, i didnt like it, but when i listened to it at home (good speakers/headphones do help) i was bowled over, especially the drumming (specifically from around 1.45 to 2.06). i was "inspired" to write too :).
i am appending my version with a delineation of the chandham as i see it (suresh, you could use this to "fix" the meter problems in your version, if there was any). this is in TSCII fonts. of course, i dont stick to the chandham "perfectly" but overall, i hope the flow is acceptable.

Thanks for joining in. You're slowly gaining a signature style in your work.

Your latest version is strikingly different with a semiclassical touch. The tune gains a lot of flavor with a female lead. Again, you will have to develop all these variations fully so they can be set as individual tunes with different lyrics. They all show that potential.

A whimsical tune. Some of the interludes remind me of comedy songs from TFM's past (and no that's not a diss but a compliment). rjay and suresh have shown quite a sense of humor.
