Hi All,
There are many songs, that has many guitar pieces of IR, thats mostly hidden. Probably, ppl miss to recognise that, with the song. Some of them, that I could recollect.

1) Poove Ilayapoove , - Kozhi kovudhu (starting electric guitar piece).
2) Edho Moham - same movie (whole of charanam).
3) Oru kili urughudu - starting guitar, a very rare piece.

My favorites
Kanavil Mithakkum - lovely guitar arpegio in the beginning followed by flute line. Then the song starts with a nice Maj 7th chord progression/strumming capturing a nice atmosphere.

Is the thread `hidden' guitar pieces in IR songs? Then I have one to contribute (which was difficult to discern those days when the primary source of music was Radio):

First interlude of `EdhO kanavugaL, ninaivugaL' of agal viLakku. The bass guitar piece, which informs the tempo change, has a telling effect when the soft violins shift to flute with percussion.

really confused!!

aren't two piano that are used as those "counterpointing" instruments in PoonthaLiraada from Panneer pushpangaL? or were they really guitars?

similarly is it keyboard (or) guitar used that is used in poottu vaitha kaadhal thittam from Singaaravelan?

How u people have forgotten the song Pani villum malar vanam from Ninaivellam Nithya for that nice guitar piece at the start as well the interludes

For that matter, bass line is completely 'hidden' in many songs. I am listening to kuyilokkoru niram irukku from solla thudikkuthu manasu. Did I hear the bassline while listening to it on radio ..NO. For melody, the bass line is recorded at a very low level. Only in rhythm songs it is slightly better. I wish IR had mixed it at a higher level (volume). They are really fantastic.

Yes kiru. While it is at a little higher level in "ponn vaanum panner thoovidhu..." from Indru Nee Naalai Naan, i wld keep listening to "chinna chinna vanna kuyil..." from Mouna Raagam for the bass line which is at a lower level.

he has given an excllent piece in a malayalam movie which is an all time hit...the song is PUZHAYORATHIL POO THONI... from the movie atharvam. Chitra won the state award too for this song....The guitar work by ilayaraja is just magnificent here!

as Rthym Guitarist for Pop Singer Usha Udip
But i dont have ideas as who plays for him.

I'm trying to find the excellent link that was posted in one of the threads some time ago about the way IR conduts the recording session and the various players involved.That article may have the name of the person who plays the guitar.
I'm not able to locate the link.Can somebody repost it?

I can't resist...these two are some of my favourites.I don't know if they fall under the hidden guitars category.
1.vanengum thanga.. from Moondram pirai(starting bit of guitar)
2.Ellorum paadum pattu...(Marupadiyum)starting bit.
I wanted to learn guitar for the simple reason that I should try these bits oneday..oneday I will.

"oor urangum nerathil" sung by Hariharan in
Kanna unnai thedugiren has splendid guitar throughout the song.
You guys have missed the mind blowing guitar preludes just after Janaki's humming and before the start of the lines "Indha min minikku kannil" song from Sigappu rojakkal. In kumudham it was mentioned the guitar was played by IR and GA duo for Sigappurojaakkal.

yes srini, ilam pani is a classic song by all standards!

idhu oru nila kaalam has some excellent chords. i think we need to start threads like "IR and rhythm guitar", "IR and electric guitar", "IR and Bass Guitar" and ofcourse "IR and lead guitar"
