  Thanks for the reply. It's a pity that you, inspite of being a musician, think that anything called a musical tune should be/will be based on a ragam. A ragam is much more than a mere collection of a bunch of swaras. Now, while I agree with the fact that ARR uses a lot of rhythm phrases in his songs, your statement He composes rhythm which obviously fall under some raagas. Even dog barking is based on some raaga. doesn't make any sense to me. Was that dog barking analogy meant to be a joke? That was a hard try then.
  
  IR has his own style of composing music which he continuously improves as time passes by. I perfectly enjoy music from both these guys. There were moments in some IR's BGMs and songs which moved me so much that it is hard to put that feeling in words. Same with the songs of ARR. Both are gifted, talented and hardworking. If you would like to dismiss ARR as some copycat trying to tamilicize English tunes, what can I say? I feel sorry for you, that's all.
  
  And BTW, I don't consider ARR a divine music director from heaven. Not in the wildest of my dreams! IMO,he is just a simple, hardworking, down-to-earth guy who has developed his own style of music without being influenced much by his predecessors. I respect him for that.

  Unmai, Hey Ram was a flop in both Tamil & Hindi. ARR's many Hindi songs were no.1 on those two web sides you have mentioned. Even ARR won the recent national award for a Hindi movie. I don't know what you are trying to tell us. ARR is still the highest paid MD in India. Common Unmai, don't be like your guru (accidentally scores a good piece of music here & there) try and make a point clear by ONLY telling the truth.

  I am not comparing. I am just passing my comments on his music. Your posting looks more desperate to defend ARR. I can criticize IR in the same breadth i do ARR. You guys cannot possibly do that. Because you are prejudiced. For you everything he scores is "divine"!!! I don't ask you to accept my statement!!! Illayaraja is not my man!!! I know what i am talking about. You don't have to agree with me or anybody else for that matter. ARR was a good composer. Not anymore. That's my argument.

  Nothing is analysed on the basis on payment, number of movies, or achieving national awards. Be logical.
  Nadigar Thilagam Sivagi Ganesan was never given national award.(Does it mean he wasn't a good actor. I agree ARR is a very talented young chap.But don't underestimate IR.

  Did I ever say that?... These sort of comments proves that you are trying to brand me as a ARR fan who objects IR... I dont care if you try to do that as I have and do know about my own likes and dislikes... If you find time, look at the few forums I've opened in TFM or forumhub... They are all about IR... I havent created or posted anything against IR... So dont think that I'm like you defending or accusing anyone blindly....

  Look at your previous posts and tell me who is comparing and who is prejudiced.... You say that you can criticize IR and ARR and others cant do it.... Anyone can criticise anyone, but what matters is whether the criticism is logical.... I can criticise kamal's acting, sachin's batting, ARR's music but I can't criticise kamal that he doesn't know to act nor can I say that Sachin doesnt know to drive...or ARR music is mix & match because If I do so, it means that I'm illogical and ignorant...

  I didnt say that you asked me to accept your statement.. you had ur views and I had my views... I dont care If Illayaraja is your man or not...and If you know what you are talking about, you gotta have sufficient points to back you up... I think you dont have that and that's why I wrote about your posting... Not that I wanted to pull you down or appreciate ARR or whatever, my views were about your opinions.....

  most of us didnt like many songs at first appeal coz...we did not watch the movie n the video clip.its one of IR's supernatural that his tunes fits good to the screenplay of the song....thats why we dont get the touch till we listen to the song while watching the movie.
  for me ..i had the same experiance with germanyin senteyn malare in ulasai paravaigal....now i fall in love with that song

  Thiru!!!! I never said ARR doesn't know how to compose music!!! I won't say about anybody Deva, Harris Jayaraja or anybody else. I am just of the opinion that his efforts are little hyped up.
  He composes music keeping in mind that it should become popular, not keeping in mind that it should fit the movie. His songs look totally out of place in most of his movies. It is more like Director creates a scene for his song instead of other way around. His choice of singers is really bad. His composition is heavily influenced by pop tunes. Accept it or not that is the truth!! I find his tunes increasingly repetitive and recycled. His songs have no identity. I don't think this can be attributed to his experimentation. He is bending the rulez too much. Since he is desperately trying maintain an identity he is not following basic rule of composing the tune to fit the movie. I honestly believe he is just a pop musician like Baba Seghal and the likes, the difference is he uses Movies the powerful media as vehicle to launch his songs. He honestly doesn't care if the songs fit for the movies or not. That's explains his appalling BGM. Ofcourse he has given good ones. But not of late. Once in a while he comes up with a reasonable song. But nothing extraordinary.
  So my contention is his popularity is a poor scale to measure his quality. Especially where any decent love story even if it is senseless and run of the mill it will run for 300 days. I still consider taste of Tamilians are far superior to the taste of North Indians who think anything that they can dance to is a good song. Be it is
  "Sona Sona" or "Dhol bhaje".. All i am saying is when he has so much room to improve himself as a composer, we cannot say this is the best he can offer. Do you think BABA songs are his best?
  Tell me one album which has surpassed the quality of ROJA. Both BGM and SONGs were good in ROJA.
  Apart from that he focussed more on how to market his music than how to score music that fits the movie. Whether you agree or not his standard is on the decline. I strictly talk about his contribution to Tamil Music.

  Mahendran/Fazil/Manirathnam/Rajinikanth/Kamal
  Combinations are all great (films) and the songs
  are always memorable one. Can anyone name a film
  in above combination, where songs were not hit.
  
  ARR + above said group can never produce Quality
  Songs except a few.
  
  Still, I think IR plus the above combination can produce good music. (latest kaadhalukku mariyaathai of Fazil).

  By the way Thiru... You need not have insulted Tendulkar by comparing him with ARR.. I cannot say Tendulkar doesn't know how to drive. But i can say Ganguly cannot hook!!! You argument falls flat!! I cannot say Kamal doesn't know how to act.. but I can say kamal at times overacts. This is called criticism. The examples you gave are not criticisms!!!
