The much awaited "NANDHAA" film songs (Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Direction : Bala) are being released today (21-10-2001). Kamal Hasan is releasing the first audio cassette and Bharathiraja is receiving it, at Hotel Connemara, Chennai.
The songs are totally fresh & different, and not the usual Yuvan's latino-type music. This album can easily be compared to some of the best of Ilayaraja when he was at his best.
Hear the songs and enjoy.
(The sample audio songs will be posted here tomorrow - 22nd Oct, 2001)

IMHO I feel people are all forgetting that this is YSR's first attempt at this type of music. Yuvan is used to using modern and western influences in his music, so this was a big step for him.I fell that for a first attempt, Yuvan has surpassed expectations. Many posters on this thread are writing like Yuvan does this type of music all the time and has not done it to the level they expect.
Remember his first attempt has been very good.A.A just because the movie stories are sad and emotional, there is no reason to say that the album is below average. And what are you considering as average? If you think Nandha is below average then you obviously are setting very high standards for YSR which is nice to see :-)
Many people are writing that song are sounding similiar such as dsds(24.178.147.172) How can you say a song sounds similiar if it is based in a similiar raga? And if you really feel this, why don't you substantiate your accusation with some solid evidence, or even just be true to your posting and write your real name? I find no resemblance from Nandha to any of the songs posted such as snehitane or poongatrile or jodi songs. I do however feel that YSR should try out new and apoorva ragas for his next attempt so that to the layman, his music doesn't sound similiar to others based in the same raga.
Allover a great result from YSR.Keep it up I look forward to hearing the next releases to come.

Excuse me, but I have just heard Yuvan's MTV...wow...no words to describe how he's improving strength to strength! The mixing is just as amazing as TI with even better, fresh tunes. IMHO, this is where Yuvan is exceeding even Mr.Padmashri ARR. 'Dont want to go into details of the comparison'.

I agree with you nvd. For some reason, MTV did not receive its due advertising and so went almost unknown. If you hear the album, it has a quality of music that is strides better than the last. The tracks on this album are magnificent and I really feel that Kutti Kutti and Allday Jolly day were easily better than some of ARR's recent work.

Madhav,
MTV went unknown ? The movie is not yet released yaar, thats the reason songs are not very popular !
However, "Manjak kaattu maina" and "All day Jolly day" songs are already HIT 'coz they played these songs regularly in satelite channels, Sad thing here is that many people think Deva is the MD for these My father is one of those ;-)
For me MTV is a very good album in recent times - Particularly for Kutti Kutti, Azagaana sooriyan and Manjak kaattu maina, Colour colour and allday are also good attempts !

Since lot of people are inquiring about Janaki and Vaanijayaram song, I thought I would give some inside scoop on this.
The "mun paniyaa" song was originally a duet. S.Janaki sang it with SPB. But since the song itself was set at a very high pitch, Janaki's voice very shrill and strident. The song was also tried earlier with HARINI and Sandhya (Susheela's D-I-L). Then the situation was changed to solo and that is the current SPB's 'mun paniyaa'...
VaniJayaram sang a patho. After completing music, voice and final mixes, the song wasn't upto the expectation and satisfaction. That's why the lyrics and the tune were changed and finally Ilayaraja sang it (that is now 'engengo').

what r u saying?r u the producer of the movie or usic director of the movie.
s.janaki's voice ver shrill in high pitch...good joke.....where did you guys get these type of ideas to spred alibis....
i heard that s.j and s.p.b sung a duet that's all
if s.p.b can sing in such a high pitch s.janaki can really reach it there is no doubt in it

Mr. "music" ...yArAvathu konjam vishayam sonnA avangalai pain adikkAtheenga. You should first appreciate that person for the news. Just discussing with us may not be their highest priority. (Thanks thaaths )
I too think certain recent numbers of Yuvan are comparable or better than ARRs songs. I also agree with nvd, recording/mixing style of Yuvan is really good. The mix is very pleasant. (Even better than aalavandhan).
He should be eating into the market share of Deva and others. Is he not getting offers or is he being picky ? Also, how does his fees look like compared to other MDs ?

Also, I remember reading an interview with Vani Jayaram saying that she has sung in Nandhaa and it has come out well. I feel she is going to be very disappointed if the song doesnt make it in the movie.

hello why pull arr into picture guys ...yuvan maybe good ...but cant be compared with arr ..pulease..what arr has achieved is huge...yuvan has a long way to go...even thoug i am a IR maniac...i feel "porkalam angae" song from thenali is the best song from recent times...
please let yuvan keep improving and then lets make a comparison...nandhaa is good no doubt...but his interludes..are nowhere close to IR..style...if yuvan is going to fill IR shoes...he has to improve a lot...no doubt he has the rythms and beats but the punch of a rahman song or IR song is lacking...
commens??

whats happening to you guys...i think the love for IR is blinding youuuuuu...MTV is a very ordinary album from the guy who has given as dhina and aravindhan....cmon guys..call spade a spade...we need good music reviews and comments ..not biased one puleaseee..

"mun paniya" has the feeling of "pongatrile " from dil se...how much ever u deny that ..the beats and the feel is the same ...engengo kalgal..is a triump..the song goes catches you ....what a song..."amma" song I think vani jayaram would ahve done a better job ..for the first time IR struggles..with pitches high and voice breaking...good tune though...
other than this nothing much to rave about...but a different work from YSR...appreciated..
fairenough was that fair enough????

The legendary S.P.Balu has rendered a soul stirring number, "Mun Pania Mudhal Mazhai". I personally feel that this number would fetch him an award! The song is so melodious and the great SPB has proved again that he is the best playback singer of Indian Cinema.
