Remember the Music Director trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music directors of Kamal Hassan's Alavandhaan. They seem to be missing in the Tamil scene for the last 2 years and they are doing really good in the Hindi field. They have given solid musical hits in Hindi such as; Mission Kashmir, Dil Chahtha Hai. I think they can be brought to the Tamil films again. I feel they are definitely better than Deva and a few others. I think they are the best as far as Hindi Film Music goes after A R Rahman.
I would like healthy comments who listen to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and have a fair knowledge of Hindi Film Industry.

Here's something that I find puzzling:
SEL have composed music for ONE tamizh film. So far.
The discussion with one member of the SEL team is entirely focused on their Hindi output, their modus operandi, their choice of singers, -- whatever.
The little discussion there was of the Alavandhan compositions, seems to have long faded (along with the film) into the past.
Isn't this just an Hindi Film Music discussion masquerading as an (il)legit Tamizh Film Music discussion? Or am I stating the only-too-obvious?
What's even more revealing about all this nascent sycophancy is this: SPB is used as a cheap conduit (legend, wonderful human being, miles ahead, oh-the-gush!!) and Kumar Sanu is dumped on (of course, by tamils taking sides (along with Ehsaan) to make piffle of KS's style of singing, his timbre, his work with other MDs.)
Yes, there are agendas galore. SPB fans rally around their idol, and KS fans throng to bolster theirs. And we are all to assume that Mr. Noorani has none.
That's not just pulling wool, but pulling an enitre wool mill over one's eyes (nicely done though!)

hi....WHY is there a talk/argument about SPB-KS, etc. This is exclusively an Ehsaan forum....he has already answered and given his opinion about SEL using KS and SPB. bas...thats about it.
hello, ehsaan, wrt choosing films, how do u guyz decide...as in...there might be some clash of opinions, 2 of you might be interested, while the 3rd may not be...so, how does it work???...can you also tell us a bit about your MArigold project...what stages is it in?

The funny thing is that ppl are tring to convince him to use Kumar Sanu. :-)
The SPB camp is just coming out in defense of the great singer from unwarranted comparison and not urging SEL to use SPB or involving in other kinds of cheap artist promotion.

Hi,
Well I dont want to take sides with any singer.
But I think a trend has been started by A.R.Rahman, who uses singers like Udit, Sonu etc., and music directors like SEL,Sandeep chowta etc., who are trying to follow the trend.
Singers like Sudesh Wadekar, kumar Sanu etc., have been branded as singers who cant sing for their style of music.
I think this is nonsense.
Under utilizing singers like Wadekar,Sanu etc., is not going to help.
These are soulful singers who have some great songs under thier belt.
I am not saying that use them for all the songs, try them out, give them a chance.
If you say that there is a new trend of music that ONLY young and new singers can sing, it is unbelievable. Because at the end of the day, the songs that are most remembered are the romantic or soulful songs, not the fast numbers....

hi Ehsaan,
u know one thing ur shankar tries very hard to copy Sanu, u all also tries to extract maximum "Sanu effect" from all ur singers. Why u r not using Sanu.Only Sanu can deliver u the best.

Well Ehsaan, what are the criteria for choosing a film?
Is it:
1. The Banner is good.
2. The stars are hot.
3. The story is good for good music,
irrespective of whose acting and which banner.
4. Its a serious movie, my chances for an award
are more.
5. I will do any movie (nobody else is giving me
a chance.)

Thanks V !!!! Wow this discussion is flying !!!!
Kazz yes we look at the banner , the script well the stars for sure but we do films with new people as well. Awards are not important yes it feels great etc but at the end of the day we have to feel satisfied . We have refused quite a few films which we know would be non starters .

Naaz, Ehsaan ;--) I wonder what is Sanu done other than make restaurants in the USA sound as if we are in some beaten up toilets in movie theatres in India. but, credit wide area nasal Sanu (WAN-SAN) and the (ACCO-ECHO)accompaniying reveberating violins does really do a good job of tranporting us back in time and space to India ;--)

Hi Ehsaan
I am a great fan of SEL music . I am based in USA.
I know this interaction gives you a scope to get the feelings from the masses about your music albums. You must have got all the positive side of your songs. Because I am a true fan and want you to successed in future , I will criticize one aspect.
In your albums why Shankar sings so much?. This is not necessary. I have come across several people who does not like his singing and do not want him to just use the opportunity just because he is a music director. His personal albums songs are great though. Can you please comment on this?
Second this is your forum. I can see some fans of Kumar Sanu and SPB have come to post their feelings. Which is genuine. You are the prominent mudic directors and they want their favourite singers to be a part of it. Both are great singers and personally I like SEL use them in future. Then when some fans from other
singers making baseless comments about Kumar Sanu why you are quite? Please give these fans a
chance and work with all singers. Why cant it happen?

I would rather not make any more comments on the whole K.Sanu affair I think it is a subjective thing wether you work with a singer or not. We need something from a singer unfortunately I dont think K. Sanu can deliver that. He has a nice voice but unfortunately modulates his voice in a way which does not suit our sound. ......
-----------------------------------------------
Oh com'on man! why are you making fun giving calculations and adjustments by yourself, ok i can realize now, Kumar Sanu's Clones like BABUL SUPRIYO and new baby singers who even dont know what is 'SINGING' fits to your so called MODERN FILM MUSIC but LEGENDARY ARTIST like KUMAR SANU does not fit tou your sounds. Thanx for making me laugh! :)
Ehsaan you have dissapointed me not only as a MUSICIAN but as a HUMAN BEING so are your fans, you niether accepted my message nor you answered my questions. (READ MY LAST POST)
Ok! Its better you should stick to your thoughts and ideas. We all Sanu Fans are realistic sincere fans and devoted fans and we will love him forever, no matters what you think, after all its upto you, its the reflection of your personality that you and your fans showing so much attitude.
I think thats enough i have got all the answers. My opinion for you is now changed, I think you are representing your music team i.e SHANKAR EHSAAN LOY. WELL DONE!!!
Heres i am wishing you guys all the very best of luck.
With love for KUMAR SANU

CEASEFIRE!!!!!!!!
Do you guys listen to Madan Mohan, Shanker Jaikishen, S.D and R.D Burman? How about Illayaraja and other present day music directors?
In your opinion what do you see as the next best thing to hindi music (other than SEL :-))??
On the Kumar Sanu topic....
Kumar Sanu is a great singer who can sing sad songs with the full emotions.

I don't think Kumar Sanu is sitting around wondering (or waiting) why the "trio" don't use his vocals for their songs. Why do KS's constituents give the trio so much importance?? If you think he is good/great/greatest, it really shouldn't matter if he is not employed by the trio for their tunes. Shouldn't his work with other MDs suffice, and fulfill your cravings?
Every poster here who derides KS for his "nasal" delivery, should revisit the songs of Mukesh (he'd also be out of luck with the trio.) I am sure KS is content with his lot. Why not just accept that? Does he really need a push from the newbes to prove his mettle?
All I can say is, after listening to the songs from the trio's albums (and their choice of singers,) my personal opinion is - Kuch Na Kaho:-)!
All the new MDs (in tamil and hindi) have one thing in common: fluff for the cotton-candy crowd. That might be generational; and it doesn't generate any feeling of attachment or admiration two months after the film's release. Another way of saying that will be: Who cares? The young ones surely don't.
To be specific: I've watched and listened to the Arman and Nayi Padosan albums. Two songs - Mere Dil Ka Hai Yeh Kehna and Nayi Padosan Aayi Hai - when I saw/heard them on screen - seemed (to me) to float above the screen. Dare I say that the singing voices seemed more affected than affecting?
And isn't that the state of current indian film music in a nutshell?

on: Tue Oct 7 13:00:19 EDT 2003
Well Naaz I totally agree with you!
Mukesh was one of the greatest singer in Hindi films!
and he had a nasal voice too....
Kumar Sanu doesnt need to be promoted by his fans....he has his place in Hindi music and I am sure that even SEL at somepoint in their life
must have hummed a Sanu song....
