i think "copying" is there for a long time in tamil film history. Here we discuss the tamil songs copied from others.

eden - "suraliyage"??? is it "chura liya hai.."?
NOM.
BTW - dont call this an "RDB song" - its copied from some English song, the lyrics of which I don't recall.

oLiyilE seems to be close to 'kodiyilE malligaipoo' to me. The metre is different but the pattern seems to be the same. Or atleast, it is very similar in style. I think this is a typical IR song but I haven't listened to much of RDB.

vijay, the first line of the MSV song is certainly inspired but neither the metre nor the notes are the same.

as far as i heard the notes and the meter are not same for the 1000'il orithiyamma.

Mr.O, even I was talking only about the first line.of course the notes and meter are not exactly the same(if it were, then it would have been a copy :-) ), but I thought they were close enough to call them an inspiration and thats what I have said.
The beat is of course the same(although I wouldnt say its an inspiration) and it has also been used in songs like "naan nandri solven", "ennai theriyuma" etc.

'sollayo solakkili' from alli arjuna
is same as 'kallellam manikka kal aguma' from aalayamani.
there is one song in 'friends' sounds similar to 'ullathil nalla ullam' from movie karnan.

vijay:
first the blame,
The notes are very close for the first line and the meter is almost the same.
my comment: as far as i heard the notes and the meter are not same for the 1000'il orithiyamma.
now your (wise) denial
of course the notes and meter are not exactly ("almost" is replaced wisely here) the same
finally :
vazipokan, you need to listen to it with an unbiased ear to spot the inspiration
bottom line, I never commented anything on inspiration simply because I dont have the power to read other mans mind to know about what was his inspiration while composing. no one has this power except the composer, may be the both the composers heard some other song and got inspired, simply calling anything and everything an inspiration is too rude to treat a composer, who ever it may be. People need to understand any creative art is filled with inspiration.

Something that has been haunting me for sometime...there are quite a few allegations floating about music that is played in the bg of famour commercials (TV advertisements) that seems to have inspired film songs.
Prominent among them are...
Putham pudhu bhoomi (Thiruda Thiruda) - Inspired by a car commercial for Volswagen
Chikku bukku raile (Gentleman) - British Airways commercial
(and the more recent) Renault Scenic commercial with some 'ennavo ennavo' kind of sounds in the background (as posted by Just Curious).
I could trace out just the third one from the net...IINM, the advt uses some songs as sung by 4 people in the car...few of them inlcude Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Teenage Dirtbag by Wheetus, Run on by Moby among others. But I'm not sure if this is the same advt Just Curious is talking about. Also found a online version of this ad.
http://www.agencyfaqs.org/www1/advertising/storyboards/renault.html
Check out the 3rd advt. in this page.
Just Curious: Is this the advt you are talking about? The audio and picture quality is very poor though in this clip!
Also, can somebody give me pointers on the other 2 advts mentioned above?

vazipokan, what I said was pretty clear, the notes were not ditto, if it was it would have been a copy, but nevertheless they were close enough for me to call it an "inspiration"..thats why I used the word "almost" and not "exact"..Mr.O seems to agree that its an inspiration, and a couple of others whom I know agreed too
"simply calling anything and everything an inspiration is too rude to treat a composer, who ever it may be. People need to understand any creative art is filled with inspiration. "
I am sorry, but the purpose of this thread is to exchange opinions and let others know what you think, is an inspiration..Beyond that, its upto the people to decide whether its an inspiration or not..if you dont think its an inspiration, then fine, I dont agree with you, but you are entitled to your opinions, but there might be others who think it IS..
in fact Karthik here runs a whole site with a list of inspirations, and only because of this thread many of us have discovered and exchanged info on inspiration..There is no "allegation " here..no one is going to jail MSV for this :-)) so dont get paranoid

also check out the song "mohabbat choome jinke" from the film "Aan" here in this link
http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/XX01000034
The song "senthamizh thenmozhiyaal" from maalyitta Mangai(MSV) which came a few years later seems to have its opening lines inspired heavily by this song, the sandham is quite similar while the notes are slightly different..
of course the rest of the song, as usual, is MSV's own
Examples like these, IMO, cannot be ignored as coincidences especially when similar instances have been mentioned here before in this thread and accepted

Vijay is right. There may be inspirations in any work of art, but what we here are trying to locate is any instance of direct (or indirect when the composer in question is extremely talented that he creates a new flavour out of an existing tune) inspiration and atempt at documenting it (I try doing it partially via my site). Such instances will show up as and when we keep discussing the instances, possibilities etc.
Merely saying 'MSV might have got inspired...' does not amount to blaming MSV. But proving it relevant audio clips does. But even there, when the inspiration in question is too subtle to be comprehensible by a majority of people, then personal bias is the only reason for that allegation IMO.

Funnily enough 'mohabbath jhoomE' is itself a recycle of 'huE ham jinkE kE liyE barbAd', atleast the metre, by Naushad himself.

IR’s OhOhO Kaalai KuyilgaLE from Unnai Vaazhthu PaadugirEn ( http://www.dhool.com/html/movie/unnai_vaazthi_paadugirEn.html ) is a clear inspiration from SDB’s Hindi song Khoya Khoya Chaand from Kala BazAr (http://ww.smashits.com/index.cfm?Page=Audio&SubPage=ShowTracks&Letter=K&AlbumID=585 ). The pallavi is similar but the charaNams are different and almost double the duration in Tamil.
ARR’s Sugam Sugam from Vandicholai Chinnaraasu (http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/WW000L1P ) is inspired from IR’s Tel song Em Debba TheesAvurA from AshwamEdham (http://www.chakri-anu.com/mds/Ilayaraaja3.html ). The similarities in the song structure – pallavi starting, its progression and ending, the starting and ending of charaNam (thou the charaNam itself is shorter in Tamil) make it a clear case of inspiration. Ironically, this is the first (and only?) song for VJ under ARR (I think!). The Tamil ver is made a little simpler with the gamakAs/feel and the musical content more in the Tel ver. And yes, feel fortunate if u don’t understand Tel (for its lyrics):-) I understand the rAga is predominantly DharmAvathi.

vijay it is you told this, Which was totally unwanted,. that all about it. i never said anything about inspiration on my first posting.
i told my opinion on a technical part there it ends of me,. You are basically "biased" on opions about people. i wish you stop this.dont reply i might read this.

did sugam sugam become popular? the song is very unlike ARR's (for the most part); i feel that the lyrics is also not by di-a-mundu. sounds refreshing. thanks for the link isaiosai.

vazhipokkan, sorry I didnt see any "technical" part that you spoke of either..all you did was REPEAT what Mr.O said and actually it is YOU who seems to be biased against some posters here, especially me, because I KNOW who you are and your different usernames here(which you change conveniently from time to time), you want me to say them all aloud?

isaiosai, NOM, but there is hardly any resemblance between the pallavis of sugam sugam and "yeh debba theesavura"..the meter is totally different and the notes dont match either..the scale might be the same but that doesnt count for an inspiration
