Hi Guys:
Listen to this Telugu Song composed by IR ( I am not sure if this was dubbed in Tamil ) - it's from Surya IPS. This came in 1990
http://64.81.35.203/songs/SuryaIPS_Hattiri.ram
Listen to the Kadhalan Song by ARR ( I am giving the link to telugu version of it - check the tamil one if you want )
http://64.81.35.203/songs/Premikudu_Andamaina.ram
Let the song start, wait and relax to enjoy the similarities.
If there are any such inspirations - let's discuss.
BTW, this thread is not intended to prove that everybody copies from IR. But just curious...

Donot think I am deviating my point. I am not trying to confuse anybody. But this thread would also want to establish the thin line between inspiration and copy. I want all the ustads of TFM DFers to come and share their thoughts. Finally get educated on what the current MDs trying to compose.
"Anyway who cares so long the music is melodious and good - isn't it?"
Well this is a very diplomatic statement. Personally I care for melodious songs and must be ORIGINAL. Even if the songs are inspired they shouldn't end up as the ones in different raaga.

RC,
If you want us to discuss current MDs then could you please change the thread's title.
People like me after reading the thread's title come here joyously to find ARR's copying spree from IR.We would be clearly disappointed if there is a U-turn of sorts.

Trend:
there's no U-Turn...in fact it's still as to how ARR has been inspired by IR. But there will be some commercials "Tilda Rice":-)) Sometime it unravels lot of sources from which MDs get inspired.
Anyway we will try to stick to the topic.
GO Ahead...

I got this info. from somewhere. Can somebody confirm this!!
Linda Seager(sweden) "Nusery Rhymes" is an inspiration for ARR Roja Chinna Chinna Aasai
The Profiler (English Rock band) (just the hummming) is an inspiration for ARR Roja Rukumani Rukumani
Khaleed Thilabee... Thilaybe..( Album DiDi)is for ARR July matham vanthal (Guitar piece).
I personally have heard Rukumani humming often. I donno the English version of it. When I get it I post it!

There is a bigger list; I got it from somewhere else; Interesting...
1. "Chinna Chinna Aasai" - Based on Nusery Rhymes by Linda Seager(sweden)
The cassette is available in Chennai.
And the music score is no different from Jamaican Reggae. There 100 songs like this in Jamaica.
(FYI - I am currently in Caribbean Island). ARR
Rustic Humming makes the difference in the song.
2. "Rukumani Rukumani" Humming lifetd from-The Profiler (English Rock band Group)
3."Pudhuthu Vellai Malai" - BEAT is a copy of Car Commericial (more than one).
4. "Tamila Tamila" - The Lead piece sounds like
one of the Bryan Adam song. I am not sure (HELP!). A similair piece comes as BGM in Gentleman. The scene is when ARJUN's MAKE_UP clothes are shown in top of the hill.
5. "July matham vanthal" - Th Guitar piece is
Direct lift from Khaleed song Thilabee... Thilaybe..( AIBUM DiDi)
6. "Kaadhalikum pennin kaikal thotu.."(Kaadhalan)- A direct lift from IR song "Poovin meethu theenai alli" from December Pookkal or January Pookkal. ARR made IR's violin as a Humming....(famous)and altered the tune little bit with ARR flavour.
7. "Muqala.. Muqabula.." - Starts with For few dollars more orchestration and the BELL sound of
Good Bad and Ugly. A tune and BEAT based on
IR's "Yeee.. Unnai thanney, Nee Entha ooru.. Enodu Aadu.." FILM:Kaadhal parusu. The BEAT is almost same with ARR flavour.
Then song turns into typicall RD BURMAN mode and
stays there. After the end of vocal and when animation starts, there comes BEAT of Samantha FOX(Album: Satisfaction), Then tranform directly to DR. Alban BEATS of Matha O..Ya..Ae Oh.... and ends with it.
Somebody saying in some thread about Multiple Inheritance of DEVA. Wow! This song is Excellent Example Mutilple Inheritance of ARR (GREAT!!)
8. "Ithu sugam.. sugam.."- vani Jairam, Film: Vandi chollai sinarasu.
Orchestration based on IR song "yemm theba thasavuraa..." Film: Ashwamedham (Telugu).ARR never forgets to add his flavour.
9. "Putham Pudthu bhoomi" - Car commerical for Volkswagen
10. "Thenmerku paruva kattru" - BEAT and Squibble
sound from Dr. Alban's ONE LOVE.
11. "Kaduu.. pootta Kadu.." -Sung by BharathiRaja the start music is again from Dr. Alban (ONE LOVE) rustic african sound.
12. "Palghatu machanuku pattuna..." from May matham. I heard this tune some where couldn't find till now. Long standing mystery for me.
13. "Super Police.." (Teluge movie) BEAT directly lifted from Dr. Alban Matha O..Ya..Ae Oh.... Here ARR didn't moderate as he did in muqala.. muqabula..
14. "Telephone manipol..." - INDIAN, The Second interlude (rustic fulte like) is from ENIGMA.
15. "No problem.. " sung by ApacheIndian is directly lifted from Caribbean band SQUARE-ONE, with as usual small changes.
16. "Yedu da..antha suriya mellam" - BEAT based
on BONEY M Album: Booonooonooous.
17. "Venilavay Venilavaee.." -(Minsara Kanuvu)
The Music, sound , Humming all based on Boney M song "The African Moon" Album: Booonooonoous. It was first lifted by RD Burman. He already customized it for INDIAN audience(its a Amitabh Film). So it was easy for ARR to improvise??. So it became "The INDIAN moon" (Vennila, Chanda) Interesting Isn't it??.

Hi Guys:
9. "Putham Pudthu bhoomi" - Car commerical for Volkswagen
When SPB visited one of my friends house last year - we had a get together in the friends house. And after the dinner we were all watching TV and suddenly we get this commercial. SPB literally ran and came into the drawing room and said the same thing. Ofcourse he praised for Rahman's ear and creativity.

I just verified Muqquabula of ARR and Hey unnaithaane of Kadhal Parisu... They resemble well. Even some interlude pieces match.

Listen the Kadhal Parisu song on www.dhool.com
Quality is Amazing.
BTW, I think the beats are very much similar. And the SCALE is "KharaharaPriya" FOR BOTH. More similarities seems to be unravelled...

Comment:
You're a composer - I like your orchestration. I think you'll have some interesting things to share. Inspiration is nothing to belittle the composer's Ability. It's just that we are trying to extract/reconstruct the original thoughts of composer - sort of Reverse engineering. Though it might be mis-understood by many, I am clear on this point.

Listen to "kanmanikku vaazththu" song from Annan movie by IR. Let raaja start singing then Observe the Piano fills at the end of every logical measure ( cycle ) - Interludes. Does this give any idea of ARR's song in "En Swasa Kaatre"?
Ha Ha:-))
Another Commercial here..."Aunty! Rice is Ready, hmmm...Tilda Rice"....
Even the YSR's rishi "Vaa Vaa" song has lot of similarities with this one...Piano Fills...

now that a german commercial has made its way into ARR-copying-from-Raja thread, i wish to add one more in this list.
A DF regular (sundar aka bull) says, pOrALE ponnuthAyi is a ctrl-c/ctrl-v of a german song (??) he listened to.
the only difference (in his words) is that there a
guy with michael holding's voice sings it :-)
