To bring our healthy/unhealthy discussion on music merits and demeits of IRR and ARR out of the Thangar Bacchaan thread I starting this thread so that it would be more appropriate.
I expect people who post here to be fans and not typical fanatics. Expecially the young ARR fans and the "Theevira" Raja fans
Thanks!

Your logic sucks big time.. of comparing people..
but u seem to be a ARR Verian not seeing other people's opinion. You dont understand Quality then or U seem to have a biased opinion that anything from ARR is a quality music.
Thanks that you mentioned Kurt Kobain, he was an amazing artist.. People surely remember him if he had lived and not committed suicide by succumbing to pressure he would have been gr8.. I am very happy to live in the times of the legend and giving a gr8 song SMELLS LIKE A TEEN SPIRIT.

Whatever yoou do Please dont go deep with baseless theories!
you will confuse all of us again and take your answers miles away from the actual point!
Still if you remember we have a disagreement between eroticism and passion based on vulgarity.
Please excuse me but I am a Samskritham student and did not read much of Tamil in my life. So I can only understand your tamil posts but not reply to them in Tamil.

If you want to give a rigis definition for a music composer and call IR as "THE" composer thats fine with me!
After all I too say that IR is unbeatable in theory!
However I think the term composer is too restrictive in the sense you are talking about!
Composers today feel the daunting task of regulating their music to world-wide audience. This is already the case with Hindi films and a little for Tamil movies too. Remember that Mani's Kannathil Muthamittal is going places around the world now. Even Indra and Bombay did that!
ARR has much more to do than compose and record music. Choosing his projects alone is such a pain and I must say he has failed in that dept in the past 2 years! How the hell then would you explain a mess like Parasuram!
You kind of had it right the second time over!
But acc to me ARR is more than a "composer"!

mannn i'm just too tired..... atleast i'm happy that situation is better now.... when i was a ARR-fan in 1993, i was the only one in my whole locality, now i can see that ARR also has earned quite a gr8 fan following.... biggest asset for an artiste are his fans,ARR is bestowed with the cream of music lovers....

Regarding Rajasaranam,
Has he left in a huff? That's a pity, since I feel he is far superior as an interlocutor to dogmatic IR-campers like ambleen etc.
Unfortunately, I can't read Tamil, so I can only guess at the content of his valedictory messages. Does someone care to give me the gist?
His abrupt retreat into pure Tamil indicates hurt feelings stemming from my advice about correct language. Isn't it puzzling that while we're willing to heap abuses on certain composers, we refuse to countenance any criticism directed at ourselves?
Rajasaranam, if you're reading this, please realise that I have been criticised for my language on several occasions myself. I accepted the truth of the comments and set about amending the errors. Wouldn't we want IR or ARR to do the same in their fields?

To MusicIsLife,
"but could not just agree to the demanding of quality from our composers"
Of course, we're demanding. If not with respect to our favorite composer than certainly with respect to composers from the "opposing" camp.
For example, ever since ARR arrived on the scene, newtfmpage-ers have accused ARR of various, and often, conflicting sins: too slow, will not last, can't do BGM, copies international hits, lacks spontaneity...the angle of attack keeps changing but the attacking never stops. He was blamed for being too repetitive, now, of course, he's being called a "chameleon"!
What is all this, if not demanding?

Of course he is being blamed and of course he is a "chamelon". Look how bad his quality sucks for the past 7 years or so.

Well...
some ppl asks "DO ppl still listen to ARR"...
I would like to say something to that gentleman...
well..IR did 4500+ songs...ARR did ard 750 - 1000 songs...err...have u studied mathematics...particularly the subject of PROBABILITY.....
from your statement i guess u might have failed it.
and for those brand ARR as Chameleon...wow...that's a compliment...that shows ARR can adjust himself to any culture any requirement..

well,
b4 u talk abt hardcore math you have to understand the basic math. u noe wat's an ABSOLUTE? well the ABSOLUTE nos.(for a given time span) are one way of comparing head on. i noe u tried to thappichiporan this issue by trying to talk intellectual. so wat have u got to say for absolute nos.?
nobody branded ARR as a chameleon, it's "chameleon" dumb S :-)
u noe the difference?
before u start talkin rubbish again and try to sidetrack all of us...the above is related to what i've pasted below. so pls reply verbatim and not juz show ur shallow music appreciation.

"Ppl are still discussing abt IR's 70s, 80s, 90s and present day music and they are still listening to them till now. When i turn the on the radio, i still hear his past and present music. But i don't hear much at all of ARR's previous music. When I turn on sun tv, i hear an over-representation of IR's music in adverts, serials, etc. Not forgetting the great 'Sabtha Swarangal'. You will here an abundance of IR's music EVERY SINGLE WEEK!! Why is it you don't hear Rahman's music in that show or almost anywhere? Did the so many awards(for popularity mind u and no definitely for the quality of the music) do anything to stabilise his music or or did it help you guys with the staying power of his music?? You know the answer. Look at the pathetic post somebody posted up there saying many music gurus and vidwans like his music. Goodness sake those are the very ppl working with him for their respective movie! Of coz they have to say good thing abt their own production team. You wanna look at gurus commenting on an Indian composer, pls look at IR's."

sreeni,
ur fortunate enuff not knowing to read tamizh, i guess. ur english was too good but isnt it a pity that being a tamizhian u dont know to read tamizh which ive typed in accepted format of roman alphabets.if ur not able to read and understand this how r u able to comprehend the Tfm with its lyrics. r u enjoying the music alone all these years????
i was giving a counter challenge to u abt the critisicms u made on my knowledge of english, and said ill be giving u answers in my subsequent posts in tamizh and asked r u ready?.
now that ive come to understand u dont know tamizh. ill try to answer u with the meager english knowledge ive got.
and for the criticisms u got abt ur english fmr ur friends. iam criticising u of not knowing tamizh. wat r u going to do??? r u going to counter that tamizh doenst fetch u money so u need not know it?? there r somethings more than money in this world.
for more information i studied in kendriya vidayalaya which gave me abundant knowledge in english and hindi.and my command over both the languages was good until i realised i dont know tamizh, it being my mother tongue. after i went to college, on my own efforts i started reading tamizh, this language came more naturally to me and ive got a good command over it over the years. my english has degraded in the past ten years when i was ardently learning tamizh.so wat????
when u were improving upon an alien language i was doing the same on my own language.but as of now i reasonably understand english, look at ur pathetic case????

part 2 2 sreeni,
no i dont hav any apriori convictions and all my questions r directed over getting an answer.everything is open and sometimes my answers lead to some other questions.
1.history - yes i agree that these discussions can be resolved or refined by dialectics rather than theories.but theories r something which has to be proved beyond any doubts. so when i propose a theory, i need counter arguments frm u to refine over it or to shun that theory altogether. when this is happening, i consider this paves way for dialectics which will/may lead us to form our own theories?
