The much awaited "NANDHAA" film songs (Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Direction : Bala) are being released today (21-10-2001). Kamal Hasan is releasing the first audio cassette and Bharathiraja is receiving it, at Hotel Connemara, Chennai.
The songs are totally fresh & different, and not the usual Yuvan's latino-type music. This album can easily be compared to some of the best of Ilayaraja when he was at his best.
Hear the songs and enjoy.
(The sample audio songs will be posted here tomorrow - 22nd Oct, 2001)

Thaths, inga thAn arattai pakkam gumbal kitta kEttirukkaNum.....nee paNNa periya thappu. Our suggestion would have been to consider Bhava.
Sriram : Believe it or not, after hearing the track of that song, Bhavatharani was standing in one leg that only she would sing that song. Same case with Anuradha Sriram (btw, Anuradha's brother Murugan, who sang 'nee illai endraal' in Dheena, was drums player and assisting Yuvan in Nandhaa).
But Director Bala was very particular about SJ singing that song.

ThAlAm, the movie Vangchinathan is by KR and features tha AMul Baby song, but Neruppo koothadikutu song is From Thulluvadho Elamai by YSR.
Hope that clears up your query.

kiru : Yuvan is indeed getting lots of offers. He IS being choosy. Right now he is doing a handful of Telugu movies. Yuvan's fee is not that high. Very competitive and comparable with other MD's. Deva's fee ranges from 3 lakhs to 30 lakhs depending upon the usage of his CPU time ;-)

Thaths,
Do you think it will be possible for Yuvan to give more interviews about his music and life, Most people are feeling very familiar with HJ and ARR because they are telling all about their lives, with Yuvan he is still a mystery and it would be nice to know what inspires him.

>>The legendary S.P.Balu has rendered a soul stirring number, "Mun Pania Mudhal Mazhai". I personally feel that this number would fetch him an award! The song is so melodious and the great SPB has proved again that he is the best playback singer of Indian Cinema.
<<
this was said by one of the person in this thread, I agree with you 100%, I hope the greatest SPB in India will get a national award, if not the best playback singer of the year(tamil).
music (@ 24.178.147.172) ;
It is true that except the late M.rafi,Lata & SPB are the only singer, who reach the highest pitches, but Janaki can also reach very high pitch, but her voice tends to be squeky, hence she does not.
thanks

Some People complain abt IRs song and pitch!
Wait and watch on screen and then say what everyone felt while watching the movie...Raja makes it a point to make an impact!! How much appreciated was the Varthai Thavarivitai from Sethu before the film got released!!
When hearing Kalli Kalli song I got really touched with kids voice asking for a new dress....Being a Tamil from Eelam I felt it more....!
P.S Did you guys note YSR has used pieces of silence in middle of songs!! This is a trademark of IR

thaths,
I didn't check in MG Road, But in cassette shops in and around my place - Banashankari and BTM Layout, These shops get the cassettes the very first day they are released,
Infact, they have shahjahan cassettes (released after Nandha) in large numbers, not Nandha,
Please look into it !

madhav : I'll certainly bring Yuvan to either newtfmpage or http://busychennai.com for an ONLINE CHAT. Since he is currently very busy with the RR of nandhaa, it can only be after 10th of November or so.
In the meantime, you can get to know little more about his favorites here... http://www.busychennai.com/yuvan/profile.html

I don't exactly remember, but I can recall few things from Tamil grammer.
Kaala vagaigal 6 avai.. Mun pani kaalm, pin pani kaalam, ilai udhir kaalam...
The list goes like that. Some one good in Tamil Grammer may be able to explain it.

thaths ..appreciate your participation here. YSR is just 22 !!! Wow..smart kid. Please let Yuvan know many of us here think very highly of him. And you probably know we analyse and analyse songs here so much that so called music reviews are nothing compared to what is written here. So it is a quite a compliment when there is so much enthusiasm for YSR's work here.
BTW, is there any chance that YSR could do the recording/mixing for IR's next movie ? I do appreciate IR's style but most people do not have the very best stereo system to really enjoy his mix. YSR's comes out better in any decent system.

The song "AMMA" by the Music "MAESTRO" is a superb one. I congratulate Yuvan for making his dad to sing such a memorable number.

I would list the songs as follows.
1. Mun paniya
2. Engengo kaalgal
3. Kalli adi kalli
4. Aairam yaaani
5. Amma
I wonder if anyone could sing such a slow song so beautifully as Raaja.
Congrats Yuvan for your choice of singers.

venki its not anyone could sing a slow number(read melancholic) as IR ...the question is why is sticking heads and shoulders to it....he is getting lost into it...we need the maestro to come out with nos like. "kadhal oviyum" or "poo malaiye"..
or as someone pointed out the future tamil generation is going to recognise IR as the guy who sings sad songs in tamil not for his MAESTRO abilities...sad point guys but maybe true..

just becos he is done it for a few movies of late..you cant categorise him in that..thats not a great comparison.. truth...watch out for him he will still deliver the goods ...
lets hope that IR sings peppy nos soon...

Well, a subjective opinion though...not every number of Nandha impressed me. "Amma" sounds good for the wonderful anthuvaraali/PurviKalyaani fusion.

I Have A Question For The Producer Of The Movie 'Nandaa'(Thathuvavaathi). This Might Sound Weird At This Moment. What Was The Real Reason That Ajith Dropped Out Of The Movie Nandhaa? But Surya Is Perfect For This Role Though. Was Just Curious.

I always thought YSR was hyped up more than what he deserved in this forum. Esp. after I spent $12 to buy Rishi and find out that it was not worth the money.
Anyway, Nandha is totally different. YSR has definitely improved. He always had IR-ish tunes, but he somehow ended up sounding noisy and kind of wasted the potential of his melodies.
Here is a brief review of Nandha. All IMHO.
1. 'Mun Paniya' - As someone said already, SPB is hallmark of the song. It is indeed hard to find a next generation SPB.
2. 'Or Aayiram Yaanai' - A different kind of song for UnniK. Sounds IR-ish, YSR carries a good melody through to its end.
3. 'Yengengo Kaalgal Sellum' - Typical IR sad song stuff. I think I have heard a similar song, not sure what it is.
4. 'Maayane Andha' - Neat prayer song. Sounds like one of songs on a light classical cassette by Sudha Raghunathan or UnniK.
5. 'Kalli Adi Kalli' - Supposed to be the catchy tune of the album, I think. I did not like it very much, though.
6. 'Amma Endrale' - Wow! great song. IR's voice is good choice for the song. Could have been sung better, though.
Overall, a good album. Mun Paniya, Amma Endralee are probably the best. Hope to see even better tunes.

Very sumar effort, considering it is for a very hyped up project and yuvan seems to be working on too few projects.
Whats more, all songs have some traces of an earlier song by ARR or IR and yuvan doesnt seem to have a identity.
For eg mun paniya rhythm is the same as ARRs e Ajnabi and song format is inspired to some extent . The first interlude in Or ayiram has distinct hai rama sounds.
On the whole though nanda is not a bad effort it shows yuvan still has a lot of ground to cover.
All IMHO.
