Sangitham en dhegam andro is Chitrambari Ragam. The confusion sometimes with Sri Ranjani is common. Naaz is partially correct.

Saravanan
I think purushartham (this is a sanskrit word, I think) means supreme object of human life. The punyam and purushartham usually go together.

purusha artha means aim or goal for the
human being. they are four- dharma (rule of
law), artha (making money by honest means),
kama (desire or passion) and moksha (release).

Saravanan,
Kalangalail Aval Vasantham coverage very well done. Vijayabhaskar and Vani Jayaram deserve every bit of your compliments. I wonder if KAV was nominated for any music awards. It sure deserved some awards. VB leaving TFM was a big loss, if not for others at least for VJ fans. He gave his best to TFM in all his movies. And VJ turned them all into classics.
Everyone,
The following have been uploaded. Two of them from my old website.
Anbenum Cudaral
Manamagale Un Manavaraikkolam
Kanthanukku Maalai ittaal
Kavithai Kelungal

Kaumudi and JKM Rao- thanks for the clarification on 'Purushartham'.
Priya, I too love that song. A forgotten gem by VB.
Neel- thanks for the latest uploads. I especially like the way you have announced these additions in 'New':-))
Susi- Theruvilakku came in 1980. I think it starred Vijayan, though I'm not sure. MD-Gangaiamaran.

R Sundar: Regarding PS suiting KRV more - remember that VJ's two great hits upto that point had been for KRV (malligai en mannan mayangum, thaththi chellum muththukkannan sirippu). It's not surprising if MSV chose VJ for kannan kovil paravai ithu or if we were to expect a hit.

Neel- shouldn't 'Kavithai Kelungal' be in Duets 1, thus giving recognition to Jayachandran's jathi contribution in the interlude?

Saravanan,
1.In Sanskrit, Pusha artham literally means 'for the sake of man/mankind'. But here, I think they have used it in the normally understood Tamil meaning viz., 'aaN enbadhan arththam' or ' oru aaNukku ezhuthiya ilakkaNam ' (if I may borrow from VM!). I don't think 'purushaargam' has any meaning!
2. I consider AaNdaaL's 'VaaraNamaayiram' (11 stanzas)as the best Tamil Marriage poetry. The most quoted para is
'MaththaLam kotta varisangam ninRoodha
Muththudaith thaamam nirai thaazhndha pandhaR keezh
Maithunan nambi Madhusoodhan Vandhennaik
Kaiththalam patrak kanaak kaNdEn thOzhee naan!'
The following two lines of AaNdaaL that have been used in "MaNamagaLE..." , IMO, have enhanced the charm of the song exponentially!
'Maithunan nambi Madhusoodhan varuvaan'
'Kaiththalam thandhu kalyanam purivaal'
(If people have the patience, I am ready to write down the 10 stanzas that I know!)

Thanks

Kik,
In the case of Malligai, it was the first VJ hit in Tamil. MSV excelled in its composing. In Thathichellum case, movie was a superhit and the underlying captivating Valaji raga in the melody are the reasons. Note in Kalangalil aval vasantham again it it Srividya-VJ combo.

There was a mention in hindu on Friday regarding Srividhya-VJ combo against Soundarya-Sudha ragunathan combo in the review for Ivan.

Saravanan, you are correct. I have moved "Kavithai Kelungal" to Duets. VJ simply dominates in that song. I was carried away.
Everyone,
Veru Idam Thedippovalo has been uploaded. Also, last song (for now of course) of the wedding series has been uploaded. Just go to the website and have a pleasant surprise. http://www.vanijayaram.com
A very rare sad lullaby coming tomorrow. I will let you keep guessing.

Sundar: What is apparent in hindsight from the distance of these many years was most likely not so easily perceived in the immediate moment. Second, I don't perceive any musical deficiency in kannan kovil paravai ithu. Are you suggesting there are (not sure how to interpret 'MSV excelled in its composing' for malligai)?

Friends,
Some 10 days back, there was a controversy in this thread about 'natives' being ignored! I thought, I'll wait a little for the dust to settle down!
In my school days, there was a good 'native' actress Chandrakantha. Some of my friends (with mild Dravidian leanings!) used to vehemently argue that her talents were being ignored simply because she is a 'pure Tamil native'. I used to counter them that in Film industry, merit alone matters and no amount of recommendation can help as the ultimate acceptance or rejection is in the hands of the audience!
But, after all these years, I do agree that it is naive to believe :
1.that there is no politics in this field!
2.that 'nativity' factor or simple whims & fancies don't prevail!
3. that people like VJ lost out purely based on merit i.e., acceptance or rejection by the audience!
4. that with so much glamour and money involved and with cut throat competition, people will not indulge in unfair practices to establish themselves !
I can fondly recall what people say about Tamils -that they'll go gaga over anything that comes from strictly beyond 300 Km from Tamilnadu borders (but nowhere within the vast area of TN!)
All this IMHO and NOM!

Mathi,
Welcome to the thread. You can find "Neeraada" if you go to www.vanijayaram.com and click on "MoreSongs". "Itho Itho" is I believe by Janaki, Sasirekha and another lady but not Vani. It is a lovely song too.

Neel- 'Maanendrum vaanathu meenendrum' never crossed my mind- for the simple reason that I think I'm hearing it for the first time!! It is a superb song- THANK YOU! Btw- any details on the Md, actors etc?
C V- 'Idho Idho en nenjiley'- that great song is by SJ and BSS only. In the film (Vattathukkul Sathuram-1978), the song has Baby Indra and Baby Sumathi singing the song and in the course of the song, they grow up to Latha and Sumitra.
In the unabridged version of the song, there are two voices other than SJ & BSS singing for the children, and SJ-BSS take over when Latha and Sumitra are shown. I cannot identify those voices singing for the kids- I am only guessing that they may be Poorani and Indira, as these were part of Illayaraj's troupe those days.
Jikki did sing in Vattathukkul Sathuram- and what a great, haunting solo it was- 'Kaadhalennum kaaviyam, kanni nenjin oviyam'
Other songs from the film are 'Perazhagu meni konden'-SJ and 'Aada chonnaarey'-Jency.
The titles listed only SJ,Jikki,BSS and Jency (in that order) as the singers.
