Vijay's GILLI

Vijay's GILLI is the remake of the Telugu smash Hit OKKADU, which had Mahesh Babu and Bhoomika. The Tamil film is produced by A M Ratnam and directed by Dharani. But who is the Music Director. Is it Vidhyasagar, because the directer is Dharani or is it Mani Sharma, because he composed the Telugu original. Will it have the same tunes from Telugu, because they were super hits??

  Gilli THiruttu VCD will be released on Pongal 2004.

  Gilli
  Fresh after the success of Thirumalai, Vijay has teamed up with Dhool director Dharani for Surya Movies A.M.Ratnam's Gilli, a remake of the Telugu super hit movie Okkadu. Vijay has Trisha for company.
  “Gilli is sharp edged at both ends and so is the hero” revealed the director. Vijay, a Kabbadi player is a reserved person who works towards a set goal. Prakashraj who heads a caste outfit falls in love with Trisha. Her brothers who object to this are brutally killed by Prakashraj. Trisha's father packs her off to USA but en route she is stopped by Prakashraj. Vijay on a kabbadi tournament in that town chances to see Trisha being abducted. He rescues her and takes her away to Chennai. Here he makes her stay in his house without the knowledge of his father who is the Assistant commissioner of Police. Coincidentally the home minister is the brother of Prakashraj and he asks Vijay's father to find the girl. Vijay's father's investigations lead him to his son. All hell breaks loose and Vijay with Trisha take shelter in the Marina Lighthouse. Dharani said that there is a perfect blend of romance, action and sentiment in Gilli.
  The highlight of the movie is the set created by art director Maniraj, of Mylapore and Triplicane area on the shores of Mahabalipuram which alone cost about Rs.one crore. Most of Vijay's portions are happening here, “We felt it would be very difficult to shoot with Vijay in Mylapore and Triplicane area. Hence we went for a set and a month long shooting got over here. Gilli is the most expensive project of Vijay's films” says Ratnam. Dharani said, “ Gilli would do better than Dhool because the story is more powerful and has been improvised with more twists and turns to suit the Tamil audience”. The rest of the film is shot in Madurai, Thenkasi, Vizag, and Hyderabad.
  Talking about his role Vijay said, “Gilli's role amazes me. It's a new experience for me. All the characters in the movie are down to earth. Incidents that take place in everyday life, at home, on the street, interlaced with romance, comedy and sentiments are beautifully portrayed by Dharani sir”. Prakash Raj, Aashish Vidyarthi, Damu, Nagendra Prasad and Baby Jennifer are the supporting cast.
  Vidhyasagar scores music and the Cinematographer is Gopinath. The movie is expected to hit the theatres in April.

  Superstar Vikram’s father is making his screen debut in Dharani directed Vijay starrer Gilli. Vinod (see pic) is acting as heroine Trisha’s dad in the film.
  
  It may be for the first time that a top hero’s father is making a debut after his son became a superstar! Remember that Srikanth’s father had also acted in small roles in films like Gemini and Dhool .
  
  In Gilli Vinod plays a fairly big role and he has a couple of emotional scenes including a scene when his screen son gets killed by villains led by Prakash Raj. Vinod is a former army officer who had always nourished the hope of doing a film.
  
  According to director Dharini: "Vinod uncle has done a fairly neat job as a newcomer and has emoted well."

  This summer is a shoot-out between two Vijay films - Udaya and Gilli - at the Tamil box-office.
  
  A.M.Ratnam produced Gilli the Rs 15 Crore extravaganza directed by Dharini was scheduled to release on April 9 giving it a clear one month run before election (May 10) and other biggies like Vikram’s Arul, Surya’s Anazhagan, Ajit’s Jana and S.J.Surya’s New.
  
  But now a spanner has been thrown into Vijay’s and Ratnam’s carefully laid out plans as producer ‘Pyramid’ Natarajan is hell-bent on releasing his Udaya, the long delayed film on March 27, two weeks before Gilli release!
  
  After Simran's completion of the song sequence and the backing of a powerful financier from Coimbatore the film is sure to release on March 27, before the current financial year ends. Producer ‘Pyramid’ Natarajan can do little about it as the financier is insisting on an immediate release.
  
  Now the Tamil producers' council has insisted along with the distributors that there should be at least a month’s difference between a hero’s two releases. Added to that Vijay fans are insistent that they should be given time to popularise Udaya where he is paired with Simran, his lucky heroine. It looks like Gilli will now be postponed to May creating more headache for producer A.M.Ratnam.

  vijay is a copycat. his movie is copied from the telugu movie OKKADU which is the greatest movie of all timesn in the south....and mahesh babu's acting in the movie is simply superb, and he is sooo damn cute! oh i luv him...i just simple luv mahesh babu like anythin. and vijay on the other hand in damn ugly and does nt know how to act at all....and he would never suit the role of mahesh babu in okkadu (aka ajay)

  Vijay - kabbadi player ? different aana role paa. lotsa chances to show his acting skills , kabbadi skills. avaru kabbadi pora style yeppadi..as usual rendu kaiyya thooki box pottutu thalaya aatite 'kabbadi kabbadi' solitu povaaraa.
