Sridhar: Are you the same one who had doubts about this project earlier in April?
From: Sridhar Seetharaman (@ 192.147.58.6) on: Tue Apr 22 07:59:14 EDT 2003
Is www.raajangahm.com involved in this effort? I donot see any endorsement on their site for this project.

Ada,
Namma perlayae yaaro post pandraanga.
I would like to post an earlier note from Father Jegath. It might help.

Dear Friends,
I just happened to stumble upon this site.
I am deeply encouraged and genuinely satisfied about the kind of discussion taking place here about the Thiruvasakam in symphony project. We are planning to rename the project as: Thiruvasakam- A Symphonic Fantasy.
Tamil Maiyam that is speerheading this project is a not for profit organization and has awarded the 80G tax exempt award by the Department of Incometax. I am the Christian representative in the group and , quite meaningfully I have been requested by the group to coordinate the project. And for your little surprise I am a Catholic priest. Well my father was an ardent Hindu, a lover of Thiruvasakam.
It was chance encounter with Isaignani that gave new life to this project. Isaignani has been talking about this project to so many producers and friends in the last four years. But no one gave him a hand as they were unsure of the commercial profitability of the project. When we heard and felt his anguish, we immediately said that we will go even to hell to materialize this project.
For Isaignani this project is profoundly personal. There comes a time in every artist's life when he agonizes over his legacy. Isaignani does not simply want to be remembered as a cine composer. He wants to leave behind something that will live for eternity in the history of music. This is going to be that creation.
For me also this project is personal. As a teenager I grew up eating and drinking and breathing the music of Isaignani. I always had a feeling he is capable of higher music and he needs to be introduced to the world arena. This project if properly executed will definitely earn him international attention and appreciation.
The Budapest Symphony orchestra with 130 artists and another 30 artists from India are going to perform for this symphony. So you can imagine that the budget will be huge. If we are going to record ony the Tamil version of it, it is going to cost us 2.25 crores. All the languages put together-Hindi, English and German would cost us 5 crores.
I fully understand the apprehensions in the minds of some of the fans given the fact that similar announcements before did not materialise. Let me state this a Catholic priest, we will keep the word. We have fixed the date of release to be October 18.

Pal,
I am not sure if I had expressed my doubts. But if so, everything went away after I happened to meet Father Jegath in New Jersey when he had visited to deliver a speech for FETNA.

Some one with similar sentiments and ambitions to take this man's music to the world must have been instrumental in the RPO project. But what happened to that?
If released, what ever be the opinion of the critics, that score would have opened a lot of doors and opportunities for Raja. Come to think of it he has lost almost ten years of opportunities. Opprotunities that would have taken him to much greater heights in the world arena. That is the anguish of fans like me. Otherwise there is nothing personal against any one.
I repeat once again. Because I know this business and the way it works; the way in which labels pick a composer's work; the way in which they plan market attack.
If he releases his first work, then doors will open automatically. Otherwise it is going to be a very hard sell. Restricted to a local record label and reaching only the Tamil speaking population of the market. When you say that it is universal music, then the approach should be different, isn't it?

Ramesh,
Your points well taken. I request you to wait until this project happens. Please be patient. I have no problem if you dont contribute. Your goodwill is the key to success.

Ramesh,
Last note. If you think this project has all ingredients to be a failure, I would appreciate if you get in touch with me over email. Let us discuss it and get the hurdles removed. We would also like to tap your knowledge of the music business.

Let me say you, the petty music business may fetch one more composer from India who took advantage of the oppurtunities and entered and dominated the commercial classical music. There are many who do this. I mean Alla rakha rahman is a simple solid example. I like his tracks very much, but never will it give a note to the world that indian compositions would be played after centuries. Maestro action of "not releasing" Ilayaraaja symphony no:1 is certainly the most required for composer of great calibre. When it gets released after his death, or after many years its going to be recognised because its stuff. Business can be made today using oppurtunities but how long its going to stay as an work of art depends on much more things. So the "Wait" is more effective. We will see who ever it is "Which is business and which is work? We will get the answer". Its better not to advise Maestro about business . Please remember he was the one who showed how to make big money using film songs. Please think over and then say. He knows music and he knows to sell it. There are some personal wishes for a composer and nothing but wind and how to name it are that type and its his wish how to market it as he might want some label on it. That might not be business. sorry it not to hurt anyone.

We need a legendary from Indian music and not one more composer. Artistic music genius (Beethoven and Mozart type) will not only Come from West alone (A simple logic). We all are humans. Wherefrom will west alone produce great composers. Wont east produce, We have ilayaraaja.
The thinking of the east that west is advanced and great. Slavery type mentality. Maestro does not release because he is legendary and not ordinary. To end up "all just in artistic music" as there cant be anyone called legendary and great on earth.

I dont have grudge for music business too but some exceptions, some exceptional composers and exceptional compositions are there to be kept in mind where the general law wont apply. I'm sorry. I'm business minded too but this case is an exception.

Sridhar Seetharaman@67.83.146.59,
Sorry I joined quite late. Why do we need a charity to get Thiruvsagam symphony out of IR? Is Ramesh linking the release of symphony so that a recording company might sponsor for thiruvasagam?
Personally, i feel it would look like Thiruvasagam arose out of 'pity' charity as no audio companies were ready to sponsor. This implies the lack of popularity for IR. I also feel that this is sort of disgrace to IR. I remember the times, when MSV went down while IR replaced him. Ofcourse MSV did not go quiet. Eventhough IR is quiet, the fans around should not do damage.
As somebody said earlier, if charity is necessary, then why hasn't IR asked himself. God forbid, hope he doesn't do one and disgrace himself.
Sridhar Seetharaman @ 192.147.58.6,
I don't think IR has officially declared a website for himself. Paavam avar themey endru erukkaar, we meet get some snaps with him and host a official website. kind of disheartening.

bug you hit right at the point. In my opinion IR is not that kind of person who would ask for donations to do a project.

Bug and Venki,
You are entitled to your opinion. I am only working with Tamil Maiyam. I cannot refute some of your comments since I dont know Ilaiyaraaja. I only know his music.
My objective is very clear. I met in person with Father Jegath who leading this effort (no photos taken!). I have complete trust that he will make this happen.
I am sure that you have more valuable independent resources to verify the authencity of the project and the people engaged. Please go ahead and do so.
I request all people who love his music to come forward and make this happen. If not, it is alright. It is not the end of the world. Come on! I am sure that each one of us are compassionate enough to engage in activities that make a difference in other people's lives. There are other equally important projects that I am sure you would be supporting.
Have a nice weekend! Have fun!

You have all the right to know who is behind the project and if they are right.
Nothing but wind was a business flop, music hit.
The same with how to name it.
Maestro was the biggest music seller when he does film.
Thiruvasakam in symphony is nop film music.
Its one more nothing but wind. Sure will have its music content.
Thats why no companies are taking risk and tamil maiyam (BF its name) takes risk.
Only difference...NBW and HTNI were released without adds this time its going to be with adds
