IR did beat ARR in quantity But IR wasnt consistwent with the quality as ARR was in 1994 and 1999. Those days when IR did lotsa films you could only expect a 60% good songs while ARR had 100% hit in those specified years. may be he did fall in later years but when he did more movies he always maintained quality.

When quantity is all the matters, quality goes flying out of the window.
These articles prove two things to ARR bashers:
1. ARR is not a one time wonder and has lasted ten years, in spite of their prediction.
2. Almost ALL songs of ARR right from his Roja days, invoke great memories and are ALL popular. I guess there will never be a thread called "Rare songs of ARR."
The closest any MD has ever reached this special status, I think, is MSV.

Nobody can give 100% hits.
Nijam:
For your points:
1) Well IR is still lasting even after 25 years(in fact, he started composing since 1976, it is his 26th year).
2) you mean to say there is no one song of ARR which is not a hit. No MD can give 100% hit.
The point is, if ARR gives same quantity as IR had given in 1980s, then he would also have many failures. Then does that mean you would thrash and ignore ARR like you are doing for IR.
And a good MD will not be recycling for all his endeavours in other languages. Amazingly ARR does 100% recycling. How do you justify this?
And you make MSV as the only MD who previous to ARR set 100% success in his composing. Note, when IR came into Music industry, MSV faded quickly within about two or three years, although he had been composing for majority of films for about 25 years. But, Isaipuyal, ARR could not do that to IR even after a decade. Still IR is giving hits.
Please appreciate good efforts. Even while composing for 50 or more films in year, in 1980s IR had given so many amazing hits, which is a record and no other MD has ever done that. Just appreciate the efforts without having any bias and prejudice.
I like Music. I still appreciate compositions of ARR like "Nila Kaigiradhu...", "Kadhal Rojavae...", "Oorvasi Oorvasi.." "Marghazi poovae...", "Kurukku chiruthavale..." and latest "Baba kichu kichu...". But, I also like, IR's "Ennai Thalatta Varuvalo...", "Enthan Kuyil Engae Enru Parthaen...", "Koyil Mani Kaettaenae....", "Vanam Partha Karisakkadu..", "Oliyilae Therivadhu..." apart from his hits of 1980s.

Great Work fellows!!!
Nice way of channelising the idea..yearwise. Good.
I would like to have one more series, a parallel. This is also year wise. A technical write-up on one or a few songs of a year of ARR. Like, if you take the case of manmadha maasam of Parthaalae paravasam, it is acclaimed to be a novel attempt in change in "thaaLakkattu". Such kind of attempts on ARR's effort, apart from the "sounding" aspect of ARR songs(which is part and parcel and is the stamp of ARR), would be very helpful.

Well I don't think all songs, invoke great memories and are popular.
Most of the times I get bored with his slow tempo and mono tone songs, except for the lyrics I don't like to normally hear again and again.
So u cannot say it is popular with all.

When a music director like ARR could not give large number of consecutive hits , these poor rahman fans console themselves with " quality is better than quanity"
If IR had lacked in qualty, would kamal and rajni would have done 90% of their films with IR as the MD. By such statements, you are insulting a whole gamut of actors, directors(inclusive of the great(!) Mani Rathnam, KB, BM, Mahendran) etc etc who were once behind him.
The only statement I accept his, as on today, ARR has a better market value. Regading the quantity and quality, dear ARR fans, be happy with whar you know about ARR; don't unnessarily disappoint yourself comparing ARR with IR.

Madhu, no one said that IR is a one time wonder, so your no. 1 is automatically disqualified.
The point is, if ARR gives same quantity as IR had given in 1980s, then he would also have many failures.
That's right. And that's why it is a smart move on his part, to restrict the numbers.
And a good MD will not be recycling for all his endeavours in other languages. Amazingly ARR does 100% recycling. How do you justify this?
It is amazing you believe this.
Anyway, no one else has a worse record than IR on recycling. Just recall his tok-tak-tok-tak tabla beats in more than 50% of his songs.
Note, when IR came into Music industry, MSV faded quickly within about two or three years,
Sorry. You get your facts wrong. MSV was composing even in 1985. Please check your homework.
Just appreciate the efforts without having any bias and prejudice.
Hope you will also use this maxim, when you pass careless statements on ARR.

With due respects to other critics,i feel the Parthale Paravasam number has been beautifully and comprehensively analysed by Shashi in ARR homepage.
Cheenu
Market Value cannot be a hyped up figure. If so it would fall flat after the first failure.Rehman has completed TEN years and not once his MV came down.
Kamal Rajini did 90% of their movies with IR because Sivaji MGR did 90% of their movies with MSV, MKT did 90 % of his movies with GR-Sivan combination, NTR-ANR did 90% of the movies with Chakravarthy. It is the PERIOD that determined this issue.
Directors were ONCE behind him..True..those who are not behind Rehman are not in the scene today.
52 movies a year,BGM greatness,Sound EngineerVs MD .. i find these arguments by IR fans ,too repetitive.Try some new arguments.
