songs have comeout very well.
side A:
ele machi machi--- sung by kamal and udit narayanan. sung very well by kamal, but udit's tamil pronounciation is not impressive ,but maybe it is intentional bcos madhavan is an NRI in this movie. colloquial and catchy. very good road philosophy.
mounamae-- good melody. spb's daughter makes her debut.
naatukuoru--- kamal and others.nice song. a rarity in tamil cinema. a typical song which is often used in theatres and koothu=pattarai. nicely sing by kamal. nice wordings by pralayan
Side B:
Anbae Sivam: sung by kamal and karthik.best song in this album. very, very excellent wordings. a nice, beautiful.sensible song.kudos to vairamuthu.
ele machi machi--- a repeat of the previous song in side A. but it is sung by udit narayanan and tippu. i think the first song in side A was better than this. i doubt this song willl feature in the movie.its just to fill in the album.
poovasam-- sadhana sargam and vijay prakash.
starts off brilliantly. one of the best melodies of recent times.

Anbe shivam is a super movie as usual by Kamal. I love watching his movie, every movie of his is really a super. I did not like his movie Vikram!!which was not atoll a Kamal Product. People should start seeing move from different angle, not that they should expect 10 songs with a expose in it. Just like in Cricket best team should win!!!

Hi all,
First, I'm not a big fan of Kamal. I was once, but not anymore. I think he overacts most of the time, particularly his English accent, I feel that is quite American rather than Indian or even British. Having said that, I watched Anbe Sivam yesterday, mainly because my wife is a big Kamal fan. I must say apart from the occasional overacting and some untimely and unnecessary songs, I found the thought that the movie conveys quite enjoyable. I'm not saying that the movie is without faults, but which movie is? The movie, IMHO, tries to say something similar to what philosophy books have said too in different terms. Try to find the God in you. I found this quite refreshing in
Tamil films, after watching mundane crap like Sarathkumar movies, Samurai, and Sethu (I really don't understand why it became a hit. I thought the story was nonsensical to say the least). Clearly worth a watch and noway a waste of time as the reviews in Rediff and Sify suggest us. Infact, after reading the Rediff review, I really didn't know whether he and I watched the same movie. I really hope this movie is a success in Chennai and in India.
Cheers,
PG.

It just felt great after watching Anbe Sivam. The satisfaction of watching a good movie coupled with the satisfaction of seeing a great actor like Kamal making sort of a comeback- an excellent performance. I felt it was simultaneously an emotionally moving, intellectually stimulating and plain fun movie. In trying to balance these aspects the film falters on the rare occasion but overall it is a very good movie. I was surprised by the good performance of Madhavan and the film also gives the lie to the oft repeated accusation that Kamal uses successful heroes just to play second fiddle to his script backed roles. Though some reviews complained of the humour taking the seriousness out of horrible events(like the train accident), it seemed to fit in to the overal lightness of the film while also bringing out a sense of irony that is a constant presence in the movie. Horrible things are daily occurances in a country but life just goes on. And ofcourse Kamal's brilliant performance! its incredibly great and should rank as one of his bests. The performance overpowering even the amazing makeup. It is a testimony to Kamal's brilliance that even as he is giving a virtuoso performance it is the character Nalla that comes through. Just outstanding. That endearing smile, cheerful expression and gait will remain with me for a long while. Hoefully it will not be judged by its commercial performace alone!

"i dont understand why an accident makes a guy look old"
I don't think it's the accident itself. But the stress after it that makes people age so fast.
I have seen it happen to people with cancer and to a friend of mine who sustained spinal cord damage and cranial damage in a car accident.
He was in hospital for about six months undergoing treatment and therapy, when he came out he looked 25 years older.
It's more common with people who go through cancer treatments though.
....later

AS is like a breathe of fresh air and very good atleast with a different line of thinking, deviating from a stereotype commercial movie. It starts of with a nagging slow screenplay but we start travelling with Kamal and Madhavan say after some time. I don't fault with background score because it didn't distract our attention. The dialogues are very short and crisp but I think sujatha would have done better job. Yes Madhavan's acting is very good apart from usual kamal's class. The theme song was very good and its apt usage at the ambulance seen was beautifull

I just returned from watching Anbe Sivam. Very pleasantly suprised to see a really good and though provoking tamil movie after quite sometime. The so called hits of last few years have been extremely disappointing..Gemini,youth,vaseegara and Thullavadho Ilamai..making it big..are a shame to the essence of good cinema. In the same vein, news about Anbe Sivam flopping badly..is a big shame..because it was a very good attempt at good cinema.
Kannathil Muthamittal was a good movie..but it lacked star power to push it beyond its initial Manirathnam fan base. Anbe Sivam..a wonderful effort from Kamal Hassan is a testimony to the sad state of affairs of tamil cinema audiences.
The movie is humorous and entertaining..yet has a strong undercurrent of pathos and realism..that one wonders how better can commercial and realistic aspects be packaged any better.
The music blended extremely well in the background..no jarring notes..although I sorely missed Mouname PArvayai on screen..SPB had sung the song beautifully..
Kamal for once underplayed his character..Madhavan was a good foil with his Americanisms..and beyond all..the chemistry between the two was fantastic.
I am a believer..who believes in the power of love and people..
I sure hope to add this movie to my video/DVD collection when a good print comes out. Definitely worth the money.

Just returned from watching Anbe Sivam. It's a milestone in Indian cinema I should say. Brilliant story and screenplay by Kamal Haasan with so many layers of sublime text...
The irony of humor in tragedy has been brought out exceptionally well, with the lead players Kamal and Madhavan doing a great job. It's a treat watching them, and you can identify with their rspective points of view. Most characters have been etched out finely (just like Thevar Magan did), be it Kandasamy Padayachi (played by Nasser), Thambi (Santhana Bharathy), Meharunnisa (Kamala Kamesh's daughter Uma), the short guy in the troop, Saga Ponraj, or the boy in the ambulance.
There are many scenes in the film that make you overwhelmed with emotions and not many Indian films do it these days and the credit goes to the screenplay and direction (without any gimmiks) and of course the performances. Kamal is first rate and so is Madhavan. The dialogues are so crisp, full of irony and wit, and intelligently pithy. Kamal's make-up is definitely not used as a gimmik here and he does a fine job of portraying Nalla Sivam with all his nuances. You don't see Kamal on screen, but the philosophical, beaten-yet-dignified Nalla Sivam. Thanks to people like him, Tamil cinema still has some identity of its own.
The only (few) aspects that I didn't like in the film are:
1. Selection of the heroine. Kiran (who before Gemini, debuted in Hindi in a 10 minute sidey role as Kareena Kapoor's sister in the forgettable Subhash Ghai film Yaadein) has got awful screen presence and her dubbed voice is horrible. (Note the scene where she introduces her father at a party at 'his' residence. How you wish they had been more careful in the selection!
2. The sterotype portrayal of Nasser's character, with the very cliched mannerism, 'ThennAdudaya Sivane'
3. Could have done with better editing. Notably in the scenes involving Yugi Sethu at the blood donation camp. (is it necessary for every side story to have a clear beginning and an end?)
4. The cinematography though decent, was tacky at parts
5. The song atop the bus in Bhubaneshwar could have been done away with (commercial considerations?) or could have been a short, crisp, Oriya folk number. I hated Udit Narayan's butchering of the lyrics (could not follow any words) and the song itself was below par.
Though Vidyasagar has done a decent job on the music front, you can't help the thought that IR would have elevated many scenes to greater heights with his music (remember Mahanadhi?)
However the above are only minor complaints when you weigh them against the merits of this brilliant, intelligent (I should underline the word Intelligent, it didn't test your sensibility like most Indian movies do), real road-movie!
GO FOR IT!!!

Peter Pan...you are perhaps the first reviewer, Internet or otherwise, to have captured the essence of the movie brilliantly! A great movie like anbe sivam deserves a studied and informed writeup like yours!
