SK,
I thought they gave the same verdict to Maddy's movie directed by Vikraman.
It was such a predictable film :(

Kanna
Let me get this straight. You mean to say Peralagan is better than Virumandi???

S.S,
Malavika comes in one song - "Ambuli Mama". Nothing that would interest you! ;-)
Kanna,
Atleast you understood that an opinions is what is being expressed in a forum. Thanks.
I never denied that Surya and Jyothika have performed well. Vivek's comedy was also brilliant. (duh, I am just reiterating!)
The thing is the story isn't gripping enough to sustain interest. The first half was pathetic and I still maintain what I said.
The second half was fast and gripping, but the thing is I did not like the way it ended.
How many reviews I come across, I would need them only if I haven't watched the movie. Once I've watched the movie, I believe that I can make a judgement on my own. I know what I feel and don't want to be influenced by what some one else says. I can just look at it from the other person's point of view.
Family film ellam ok. Aana ennai poruththa varaikkum Family "Entertainer" illa! :-)

Yaarukko Vayiru Erikirathu Yuvanoda padangal Hit mela Hit. Athanaal oru stupid question Virumandi is better than Peralagan. They are two different kind of movies. How can you compare the two?

This was not related to music. That guy was going overboard saying that Virumandi did avg business. ok movie. and all blah blah blah stuff.
and saying everywhere that surya is better than kamal. adhuku dhaan andha kelvi keatten
that was nothing to do with music sir...

Ferrari,
I was also wondering why this unrelated question. But...don't mistake me I like Kamal movies too and have admired him many a time. But...since you asked me....let me tell you...I couldn't even sit through half of Virumaandi. I don't rate the films based on the amount of effort that has gone into the film or how different it is or the intellectual content and feel of it.
In fact, my favourite Kamal films are all very simple and straight forward films like Devar Magan, Apoorva, Sathileelavathi...etc. But...if you look at them...though they might fit into the masala category.... they were neat and intelligent too. If you watch these films again oreven think about them, you wouldn't feel that they were made by someone who was trying to pretend to be an intellectual. I don't think it is just a coincidence that they were successful movies as well. But...commercial success was not a criteria. I actually thought Anbe Sivam was a neat film....but could have been made better.
But the ones that I thought were pathetic were movies like Guna,HeyRam and Virumaandi. I hate when Kamal goes out of the way and tries to do something different ...just for the sake of it. No wonder most of such films bonged big time at the box office. They didn't fail because people didn't understand those films or even for being too off beat (remember Pithamagan was a huge commercial success. They failed because they were poorly made and too confusing and direction less. I strongly feel Virumaandi wouldn't have survived if not for the lack of competition during its release (No Vikram, Surya, Rajini, Vijay or big director films). In fact, even the verdict was ...it was the better one out of the average lot...the others being Engal Anna...etc. Even the opening was because of the same reason. If you don't accept that...see the opening Gilli received when it opened under similar circumstances..i.e. without any competition. Imagine...if Virumaandi to be released in April/May 2004...what would have happened?!?.
Coming back to Peralagan (and the thread)...I think it is a neat film with good performances and comedy. And...I think it will be a hit...and will take Surya to the next level up!
I like both Vikram & Surya...simply because they seem to have the POTENTIAL to be the most versatile actors after Sivaji...they bring the screen presence (e.g. the police gambeeram in saamy & Kakka Kakka) with sheer body language like Sivaji....it doesn't look artificial. Even the histrionics seem to come natural (especially Vikram)to them. Moreover...they are making waves without making any noise and publicity....doing it effortlessly.
Kamal is a great "Kalaigan" someone with a lot of desire to take cinema to the next level. He is probably the most versatile (in terms of skill and certainly not in acting) and most knowledgeable star. But he is sometimes overambitious and overconfident. He also fails to read the audiences' pulse big time. (Actually....you can't say that...when he wants to and is desperate he gets it right to the T...e.g. Devar & Apoorva.)
This is my humble opinion.

Jacky...your comments are really funny mate...don't try to read too much into my comments. It looks like you are suffering from a complex.....;-) (don't take it seriousely!)
Lets not talk about Sivaji here..the whole world knows who he is. There is nothing to be insecure about him.... as no one would dispute that he is the first and last word in acting. He is immortalised....lets not talk about him.
But...I can very well feel quite a few very insecure Kamal fans in this forum. Totally understandable...given the current market situation and competition....not only Kamal's fans ...even he must be feeling insecure...which has lead to confusing and irrational behaviour from not only Kamal...even Rajini. Settling for remakes...accepting 3-4 movies at the same time...titles like Vasool Raja MBBS & (Shantha) Jaggu Bhai.
What Kamal should understand is that (un like Rajini - whom I think should quit gracefully soon) if he stays focussed, he can very easily still maintain a niche market for himself. But...he shouldn't worry too much about big commercial success....just continue to deliver good quality films....he doesn't even need to play leading roles. He can be a great show man...like Rajkapoor. Kamal still has a lot to offer!!!
Rajini, Vijayakanth, Kamal, Sathyaraj & co have given many a memorable movies and provided wholesome entertainment and we are proud of them. But...don't you think...we should also whole heartedly encourage young talent and encourage them.....only the insecure should fear them.
One thing is sure...Vikram & Surya (followed by Vijay, Madhavan and co) are turning it on! The whole industry should be even thankful and grateful to them! Two to three years ago the tamil film industry was almost dead and buried...who rescued it? What were the so called super stars and senior stars doing then...taking rest...and wondering what to do? How many hits did they give in the last 3 years? Imagine...if not for Dhil, Dhool, Gemini, Samy, Kakka Kakka, Pithamagan and now Peralagan, Arul & Gilli...we wouldn't be watching tamil films any more.....the industry would have been dead and buried by the VCDs, Chinna Thirai serials and one-day cricket. They brought the audience back to the theatres....and to a great extent re-created the industry. lets not forget that!!!

Between 'Friends' and "pithamagan' Surya changed 180 degrees with performance. Remember the 'Nerukku Ner' days of him!! There has been a healthy competition these days.
Kamal should stop utilizing his 'Drama' crew all the time in his home production - the names such as Santhana Barathi, Delli Ganesh, Jayaram, Venky, all the people from Crazy mohan's troop, SNLakshmi. I knew when Madhavan got trapped into Anbey Sivam, that he will have to do another movie for Kamal and as expected, 'Nala Damayanthi' was awfully boring recycle of 'Kameswaran' Kamal of MMKR.
If only Kamal takes up some graceful roles such as the one he did in Anbey Sivam from now on (afterall he copies so many English films, doesn't he know better?) rather than doing some stupid films like Aalavandhan, etc. He should stop making stereotyped comedies and should keep Crazy Mohan away from him. It has become quite stale. And there is Anandhavikatan which is so partial to all his movies that keeps on hyping his every movie.
I am an ardent fan of Kamal. I don't miss any of his movies. But it has surely been painful these days to watch him performing with a 'thudhi paadum' crowd in every movie. Anbey Sivam was a very neat movie. Though it was not a commercial success, I am sure many of his diehard fans would want Kamal to focus on such kind of appealing roles (He had underplayed so well there).
O, I just forgot this was a discussion forum for Perazhagan. Sorry guys. Thought Kanna's argument was quite valid.

Reason Kamal likes to use 'Drama' troops in his home productions is cuz they are better then actors for a producer. Meaning they can get it done right in less takes cuz they are use to doing the same performance many times with elan unlike actors. So it cuts the cost for him.
Anbe Sivam and Nala Dhamayanthi were great movies.I dont think there could have been any change done to Nala Dhamayanthi it was great as is.it bombed cuz people couldnt releate to it who live in india/sl etc. but outside of those places it did well. Anbe Sivam kamal over did the flashback.he loves flashback but hasnt realized he spend too much time with flashbacks.
Perazhagan still havent seen it but itll prolli do good business. What I like abt all these releases Gilli,Aethiree,Arul,Perazhagan, and Aiyatha Ezhuthu they are all different from each other so you wont feel tired as if uve seen it already (not the story but how they are taken)
when have we stayed on topic?hehe
