SSSAV,
I dont think we can stress the importance of marketing much more. There was one more person, who voluntered to offer his professional management/marketing expertise.
"I don't see a talk or co-ordinated effort to bring TIS to Music festivals, radio station, classical music magazine coverage etc... "
I want to stress this point again. Music reviews are a must to get into the Grammy's. CSS is right, VM Bhatt CDs would not have sold more than a few thousands. Looks like the Grammy efforts and getting a big label to market the CD should be pursued in paralle. I would also like to point out that the CD itself can be released with our own label (say Tamil Maiyam's) and later get Sony to somebody else to market it. As far as I know, any Classical CD does not sell more than 10000 world wide. But then again these are standard stuff not new ones. We need to find out how much Yanni or somebody else like that manage to sell. Actually, I would not even bother with Sony or Universal, but any major label in AMerica or Europe would do. The goal should be to reach all the normal retail channels (like Tower, Virgin, BestBuy, Sam Goody, HMV etc) in Europe and America. I will send an email soon with more details.

BTW, is there a way we can get in touch with Peter Gabriel ?. He is into world music, mostly pop versions with ethnic sound, but he is also the one who popularized NFAK in the West. He is quite likely to support us.

SSSAV,
My idea was not to confuse anybody, rather to clarify my doubt.
So reading it again, it does seem like a big number in pre-orders will make grammy consideration a realistic possibility.
I always felt the awards had more to do with lobbying with the judges.
As far as my help goes, I have pre-ordered!

Thank you, CSS, but you miss the point.
The help we are looking for from you and alikes is to get the word out .
Pl. send an e-mail to at least 20 of your friends and families about this forth-coming TbI, urging them to support it by pre-ordering and requsting them to inform 20 more of their F&F's.
If everyone of us start now earnestly ,then , we can really do well with the release!
Thanks.

In fact, exactly a year ago, we started this TG2RD campaign, if you remember, to create an awareness on TiS!
Thanks Giving To Raaja Day!
This year we can do the TG2RD again to express our thanks to IIR for giving us this great musical piece, by pre-ordering!

Peter Gabriel popularized NFAK by using him in his compositions. But I dont know how much he will be able to do for a finished composition. But it would be awesome if the two of them work together and come up with a new album.

Lets get down to ground realities!
TIS started with an ambitious statement of making it in 4 different languages and organizing concerts internationally.
With enormous effort and patience from TIS-USA, Yahoo Groups, and Tamil Maiyam, the composition and recording has been accomplished in two languages. Is this effort going to result in fatigue and closure or is there going to be a sense of achievement and euphoria that will push forward to realize the rest of the goals set out initially? only time will tell!
The Sony Psyche! It is a consumer based organization looking for profit(monetary mainly) in return for the time, effort and money invested. If quality music was their only purpose, there are many that claim superlative creative efforts and how is TIS different for them. TIS has been accomplished with unorthodox means, with loans and deficits. Can a profit oriented organization expected to come forward to save the deficits? Not only to recover deficits but to generate economy for more such productions and Music/cultural institutions to mushroom in India and Sri Lanka!
Let us keep in mind the principle of this mission and keep working. The work is not over yet. It is still in its infancy. Take strength from small achievements without expecting large gains. Lets not confuse issues in marketing (only a means) with the ultimate goals one seeks to achieve.

Mr. SSSAV:
I am a contributor to TBI and a big fan of IR. I am also very appreciative of the efforts by your team to make this a reality.
But I have to make a few points:
a. Having a well orchestrated marketing team by the time IR releases the product may be too late. You ideally need to have the marketing team in place, ideally even during the creation of the product but atleast well before relase of the product. In fact, the release itself should be a coordinated activity of the marketing startegy.
b. While each one convincing 20 of our friends may sound like a great idea, it is more of a mythical Amway concept than a sophisticated marketing strategy.
I hope your team has clearly thought about the positioning and the targeting of the product. What is at stake is not just glory for the work done, but the right marketing which faciliatates it reaching the customers it is intended for successfully will inspire and resource IR to do more of such great works.

The 1993 Grammy winning album A Meeting By the River, by VM Bhatt and Ry Cooder, and the 1996 Grammy nominated album Tabula Rasa, by V. M. Bhatt , Béla Fleck, and Jie-Bing Chen were both produced and marketed by Waterlily Acoustics - a small company based in California.
Waterlily Acoustics is owned/run by Kavichandran (Kavin) Alexander - An Eelam Tamil and proudly so.
I had a chance to meet him a few years back when he visited Canada. He is an enlightened soul and I feel will be very interested in this project.
SSSSAV can try to contact him through his website at www.waterlilyacoustics.com. If that fails, let me know. I will try to get the number for you.

Thank you, MNT! We have already been alerted on Mr. Allexander a few weeks back and efoorts are underway to get him involved. If you can be of help, that would be nice.
We want everyone to clearly understand that
TbI is, all said and done, entirely a IIR project and we were here only to help this become a reality in whatever small way we can.
Of course, as someone has rightly mentioned, the loans and deficits make our role more involved to get them re-paid and otherwise, we would have folded with our 'thank you' note once it was completed!
We have a moral and personal responsibility to honor those committments and will be actively involving to see this is fulfilled!
And, of course, we are bound by IIR and his decisions as final, whether we or you like it or not!
Please be understanding and supportive!!!

We hope that 'the role for more involvement' is not for the loans and deficits alone!
We hope that, 'the folded hands' means 'Vanna come' rather than 'Nandri'!
IIR is beyond his TIME or our TIME, so I am happy to know that you have left it to HIM to decide when!
SSSSAV, keep up the good work. my sincere wishes to you.

Dear All,
I am immensely impressed to regularly read your contributions here. I envy the stamina of SSSSAV to keep going tirelessly. I wish to participate regularly in discussions. But my acute spondylosis does not permit me to work with the computer for more than ten minutes.
Thank you all once again.
Today I listened to all the songs on TIS at the Prasath Studios along with IR.
Punniyam Seithirukkavendum- to have participated in such a magnificient work of music!

Dear Fr.Jegath Gaspar
We salute you and your team for your tireless efforts and contributions to this unique project
Can you tell us as to how the entire album sounds like ? how would you compare it with Maestro's earlier albums like "How To Name It ?" and "Nothing But Wind", in terms of musical complexity/ sophistication/creativity/aural expereince ?
Pardon me for my curiousity, but I am one of the unfortunate millions not to have had the oppurtunity to listen to this creation
