This whole issue is again so very creeepy like a scary movie. At first money money money......till the end of production, now the raaga continues with so much more crap regarding the release......These people are talking like they are the first Asain to do an international release of an album...common folks!!!!

Why do we need Sony or Universal name? Can't we release it on Raaja audio?
1) Anyway I have heard Raja's name sells itself - he does not need any marketing.
2) Moreover only Raja's fans are interested in buying this... they will buy it whatever brand name it has..
3) "Thiruvasakam" can be marketed only among Tamil people... why do you need a big brand name? A brand well known to tamil people is sufficient.
4) It looks like you guys are more worried than IR and the producers about the marketing... When they started this work they must have known this work will appeal only to some elite class. So dont expect to make lot money...

Music_lover:"That is possible only, if 5000 of us give orders for 10 CDs each, or 2000 of us give orders for 25 CDs each"
Why dont you buy all the 50,000 cds yourself... Seriously, what kind of attitude is this?

"Thiruvasakam" can be marketed only among Tamil people" -- Very true... it's a sad fact that thiruvasakam itself is not popular outside TN (even within TN, how many of us know all of it?). We can't expect the music of such to become popular outside TN.. IR fans in southern states will buy it..but there is no international market for it. However I would still prefer Sony to market it rather than a local company. Sony would price it a little higer but atleast the audio quality will be superior.. Can't wait to listen!!!

1. Many of music lovers in TN, still are not aware of TIS project. After the news article in Vikatan and Kumudham, a little awareness has been created but this is very small proportion. If this is the case, you may imagine what will be the condition in other states.
2. If Nadeem Shravan or Anand Milind had experimented such projects, the news would have created waves throughout India. But as Fr.Fegath as put it the bitter truth is that international brands like Sony and Universal don't care much about South India.
3. But I hope that an attractive article about the TIS project in english magazenes like INDIA TODAY and FILMFARE etc will greatly help in creating an awareness about the same.
4. An half an hour program titled ' The making of TIS' in TV's such as SUN, JAYA, STAR etc will not only boost the awareness among the music lovers but also will be an indirect Marketing and may help to gather pre-publication orders.
IR's Caliber as a great musician is already
well established, but what is required now is just awareness about the Project throughout India. Further, people should not conclude this as a devotional album, by seeing the title. So i think it will be better to advertise the product with additional words like 'A SYMPHONY BY THE MAESTRO IR'.
Many 'ordinary' albums have had great sales just bcos of excellent media publicity and marketing.
This is just my opinion. Pl. omit if it is found to be irrelevent.

I’m posting for the first time. So Congratulations on the successful completion of the production. Congratulations to Maestro and everyone involved with project, especially the TIS team : )
Now to some suggestion…
I wholeheartedly second your recommendation. I would say this not a Tamil Album but an international album and has to be marketed internationally. Having said that I doubt even ppl in India and Indians all over the world are aware of the work and know about the importance of the work. I don’t doubt about the quality of the product even for a second. I'm concerned only by the awareness among us about TIS. Even some of my keen Tamil musical friends are not aware of the project. And when I mentioned to another friend who is not very musically inclined. He quipped me "What is Thiruvasakam?" I had to whip his engineering degree butt. But as I understand, isn't this project supposed to reach such souls?
The media coverage seems to be extremely light. We NEED more media coverage.
I don't see a talk or co-ordinated effort to bring TIS to Music festivals, radio station, classical music magazine coverage etc...
If I’m first time user, I would not be impressed by the professional look of the website and will not be happy with the virus that pops when I visit TIS website. (It has been reported here before)
I would like to see the faces behind TIS Team, the project and their involvement with the project. Also the project materials on the website confuse me instead of giving me a clear picture. The change from Symphony to Oratorio is not explained properly or made aware off. It really concerns me because ppl who listen to TIS might be confused or even shocked (coz it is so new) by the format. Everyone who buys a CD should know clearly what to expect out it. Well you don't need all this in marketing a film CD since ppl exactly knows what to expect. We've to remember there will not any music videos(!) to promote the music in the channels. Misplaced expectation is going to deterrent.
The first time I bought NOTHING BUT WIND in a store, I queried to store owner about the music. He replied "It is *just* a film background score by IR packaged as CD” I don't blame him but I'll never forget what he said. The point, we need more awareness.
I've donated some $ to TIS project and I'm simply amazed and out of words as to what the volunteers have managed to do. Word is mouth is very essential but I think the project also requires serious marketing effort. The marketing effort has to be handed over to a small "professional" team or consultants who can identify channels of marketing and probably create some new ones. We’ve to keep in mind that marketing a product is as hard as raising money for the product. After all the hard work, missteps in marketing can seriously effect sales of the CD and the success of the project in short-term. Success in short-term it will create a new market and encourage Raaja to create more albums like this in future.
So, I would worry about a marketing team over pre-order. And I would even donate more money to create a marketing team.
Hope my suggestions are taken in right vein.
Good luck!

Really some Thought-provoking and realistic postings and thanks a lot!
But if you go back and read our pleas and postings for the last one year or so, this IS what we have been asking, requesting and selling it to your hearts ""to PROMOTE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TiS to your kith and kin and family and friends till the project is completed and a marketing team is in place""!!
IIR tried to do a symphony on Thiruvasakam initially.
But, as he went along in the journey, and especially after recording the aforesaid symphony in Hungary, that's when he realized that it can be shaped better with additional musical and vocal forms to make it appeal better and probably changed it to this ORATORY format, which he didn't let us know but went about adding instruments and voices continuously which made us to feel that something greater is cooking up here and we were anxiously and eagerly waiting to know what it is going to be!!
He kept this as a surprise from us and kept it to himself for reasons only known to him!!
But, we have taken every steps to not to lag behind once we knew it and that's why we have tried our best to keep you informed of this change, the moment we knew and even posted a short description of the ORATORY in our site[tis-usa.com].
We assure you that a legitimate marketing team is being assembled and will be in place, on time, by the day IIR announces of TbI[TiS]'s release! It WILL be a well-orchestrated affair and a necessary hype, not over-done, will be created and make the international musical world and the 'thamizh kooRum nallulagam' be aware of the significance of this landmark event.
We need your help and co-operation and we invite you all to join hands with us in this noble task, a plea, which we have been making for over an year and it is never too late!!
Thank you, again!
YIA!!

I don't understand the need for 50,000 pre-orders for a grammy nomination. Does the popularity decide the winner? I wonder if vishwa mohan bhatt even sold 5000 copies.

CSS,
Don't read between the lines and get confused and confuse others.
pre-orders have NOTHING to do with Grammy's and nobody said so!

This is what Fr. had said!
">>>>>>>>>But the bitter truth is that international brands like Sony and Universal don't care much about South India. The only way to bring them around is to convince them with pre-publication orders. The intrinsic inherent strength of this product is its indisputable quality. If all of us together can ensure 50,000 pre-publication orders that will be the real scoop. If that could be achieved Sony or Universal would willingly and enthusiastically come around and our dream of taking Thiruvasakam for Grammy consideration will be a realistic possibility.>>>>>>>>>>>"
None of them are contingent upon others but sort of inter-related a a factor in various things .......including the Grammy's. That's all!
Now, see what you can do to help in this, if possible!
YIA!!
